That never works! I was told by my coworker that her neighbor (a Concord druggie slob) actually got work done on his yard for FREE by Neighborhood Preservation because he was such a druggie that he couldn't take care of his own yard. Get this: he jackhammered his driveway up and built a wall. :) LOL! Guess who pays for that!? Oh well. I mean, they do have their hearts in the right place. But the fact is that some people are just lazy.

I am just curious how you can set one standard for a city like Oakley, I don't think that you can say the standard should be the same for a home on Frandoras Cir, as opposed to say East Home St. It just won't work.

P5, who do we call when a yard is no up to standard? I have two emptys on my street that are starting to look pretty unkept. weeds amongst the flowers, glass bottles on the grass, newspapers littering the driveways. (ok so I've tossed the newspapers closer to the garage so they don't look so bad) These homes are bank owned, but they need desperate attention.

My guess would be Code Enforcement, but he is only a 1 person department so I imagine that he will be busy once this goes into effect. But then again one of the council members said that she did not want anyone from the city doing this work.

The standard should be the same for everyone, no matter what part of Oakley they live in! If you say, oh it's OK for the older homes to be unkempt, then you're going to create a ghetto. If every house is required to keep their yards nice, then every house in Oakley will look nice.

I guess I should have put it another way, but I don't see how you can expect in regards to landscaping which I think is part of the proposal how can someone in a small house in an older part of town be expected to meet a standard that is set according to the million dollar homes off of Neroly. There has to be a min standard not a one size fits all approach. Yes the house should be kept up, but a one size fits all standard will not work.

I read the standards, and I didn't feel like they were asking too much. I'm sure they're not expecting perfectly manicured yards like you would find in Blackhawk, they just want it presentable. No broken down cars, no fences with slats missing, no boarded up windows, etc. I don't think that's too much to ask no matter where you live.

I filled out an online survey asking my opinions when they were getting ready to draft this ordinance. Ever since then, I get emails from them updating the status. The Ordinance was attached to an email, which I trashed after I printed it out. But I went back online and searched for it...so here you go....
