Ingredients: (2) Round cans of Hormel SPAM and 1 jar Kraft Cheez Whiz; Prep time: 30.5 minutes; Calories: Approx 1,652 per serving.
Open round cans of SPAM using hot-dipped galvanized key attached on bottom of can or optional electric or manual can opener. Place one whole can of SPAM on decorative coffee cup saucer of your choice. Place other can of SPAM aside for later use.
Next, smear Cheez Whiz using butter knife or small spatula on top and sides of lower layer of SPAM on saucer (hint: Cheez Whiz can be heated in Microwave for easier spreading).
Next, take other whole SPAM you set aside earlier, and place it on top of bottom layer of SPAM. Spread Cheez Whiz over top and sides of top layer of SPAM in the same manner as bottom layer. Repeat process for each serving desired. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and serve as dessert with you favorite fresh roasted coffee or after dinner liquor such as Grand Marnier or Peach Schnapps!
That was Pantry, not Panty. I made a typo and left the "r" out which should have been obvious. If I said I had Bats in my Belfy, you would assume I meant Bats in my Belfry, not Belfy, right? Now look, you got us off topic already.
Why don't you help get us back on topic and give us your favorite SPAM Cheesecake recipe? Come on, it can't be some big family secret recipe you're afraid people will steal like Colonel Sander's special herbs and spices? Could it be that you don't even have a SPAM Cheescake recipe? Come on, 001, step up to the plate, you must at least have one of those scrumptious looking upscale restaurant dessert tray pictures of SPAM Chesescake somewhere in your garage you can share?
Sorry, I didn't mean to get off topic. Here is an interesting website in case you may want to join the Spam fan club. They've got a museum, store, and all sorts of fun stuff for the Spam enthusiast in all of us.
http://www.spam.com/fanclub/
That's a neat website, but I did the search recipe and clicked on dessert and nothing came up. They didn't seem to have any dessert recipe's on file, but yet they had "dessert" as one of the search options. I suppose I could upload my recipe, but I don't want to pay the dues to join the SPAM fanclub.
Here's another SPAM cheesecake recipe for you Smokey, but it's going to take you a lot more prep time than my fast and easy recipe (I mean, do you really need the chutney?):
Savory International Spam Cheesecake
3/4 cup seasoned bread crumbs
1/4 cup ground toasted almonds
or pine nuts
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 cup melted butter
Filling
2 (8-ounce) containers garden
vegetable-flavored cream cheese
3 eggs
1/2 cup crumbled tomato-basil-
flavored feta cheese
1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
1/4 cup chopped black olives
1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 Tbsp. brandy or 1/2 tsp.
brandy extract
1 can Spam® Classic (12-ounce), grated
Topping
1 cup sour cream
2 tsp. sugar
1 Patak’s® Major Grey Chutney
(10-ounce) jar, puréed
1/3 cup toasted slivered almonds
or pine nuts
Assorted crackers
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all crust ingredients in a small bowl. Gently press into bottom of a 10-inch spring-form pan or pie plate. Bake eight to 10 minutes. Remove from oven; set aside to cool. Reduce temperature to 300 degrees. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in next six filling ingredients. Gently fold in Spam® Classic. Pour into prepared crust and bake 50 to 60 minutes or till center is almost set. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine sour cream and sugar. Spread over cheesecake and bake 10 additional minutes. Remove cheesecake from oven; cool to room temperature. Refrigerate several hours or overnight. Before serving, spread chutney over cheesecake and sprinkle with toasted nuts around the outside edge. Cut into thin wedges and serve with assorted crackers. Serves 24.
Somewhere out here in East County they have a Spam Festival. knightsen? You really should enter your recipe in the contest. I think it would win. I hope BBrentwood doesn't beat you to it.
edited to add: Maybe you should make a copy of your recipe so's no one can steal it.
The International SPAM Cheesecake recipe isn't exactly mine. I got it out of an old Aloha Airlines inflight magazine.
Mine is the Bowling Alley SPAM Cheesecake recipe, which I kind of like better anyway. Before I enter it in the Knightsen contest though, I'll have to try it out first myself. Hey, maybe I'll bring it to the poster party!
I know the topic here is cheesecake but I wonder if anyone has tried mixing spam with some poultry seasoning, eggs and breadcrumbs and forming them on sticks in the shape of turkey legs. Throw them on the grill with some BBQ sauce and you've got SpamTurkey Legs.
I haven't brought it yet! When is that poster party by the way?
Don't worry, I wouldn't bring it without trying it out first. Maybe I'll take a picture and post it on here? I guess you're right, when you start with SPAM as the main ingredient, it isn't really fair to call whatever disguised dish you turn it into "gross." Sorry.
