"He (pulled the muscle) when throwing on Wednesday, but played great on Saturday where he threw a couple of great deep balls. (The muscle) is all really swollen and black and blue all over, (he was) unbelievably tough to play on Saturday." -This is from Scout.com, 4/8/08 Usually one does not sprain a pect muscle. It more often than not is a tear of the pect muscle. If so, this requires surgery, and he is out for the year. Will be interesting to see how this develops. The posters may get their wish: Riley gets the QB job. -85 bear

Although I am not against Longshore nearly as much as some of my fellow Cal fans, this could very well be the best thing that could happen for the program. It would remove the "controversy" aspect from the position and take some of the pressure off of Riley. I know that both have said that they look forward to competing for the starting role, but frankly, that competition has the very real possibility of harming the chemistry of the squad. Generally in these types of situations, a portion of the team gets behind one player and another portion gets behind the other. It usually leads to disharmony on the team and that is NEVER a good thing. While I don't wish any injury to Longshore, if it is true, bottom line; it may bode well for next season.

If he were out for the season, would he get this year back?

It will be tough if this scenario is true...

N8: If he hasn't already had a red-shirt year, then he would have another year of eligibility. The interesting thing would be if Riley had a breakout season whether or not it would make sense for Longshore to comeback. It's truly a rotten situation for Nate because if Riley does have a standout year, then it would make sense for Nate to transfer elsewhere for a final year, but he would be required to sit out a year. But if he redshirts, he's taken that year. Unless he drops down to a 1A school or even D2 which doesn't have the year sit-out requirement. Frankly, I'm not certain what the NCAA takes into consideration when a Morman Mission comes into play. It always seems like BYU has a bunch of 24 and 25 year-olds on their squad, so I'm guessing there are special circumstances surrounding that.

Maybe Nate will take his Mission now. Regardless, JT really should be prepping Riley (and everyone else) to step in at a moment's notice. No repeats of last year.

That's classy... root for an injury. You really are a complete jack as $C...

If an injury is the only way that we'll get that guy out of the lineup, then fine...and, after all, it's not life nor (perhaps sadly) career-threatening, so it's the best possible scenario. Have no fear, good ol' JT will put him back in the starting lineup in the Fall. You can count on that. And btw, relax, pal or some day you'll say those words to somebody who knows who you are and I predict that there will be a lot of screaming in your future. In fact, let's test that theory, shall we? No? I didn't think so. Cowards such as you just love to call people names...as long as you're anonymous.

Wow, it took you nearly two weeks to come up with that? An internet threat? Gosh, as I'm typing this my hands are shaking with fear... You actually just attempted to justtify your incredible thought that you would be GLAD if another human being were injured so that YOU can feel better about a football team? And then you wonder why someone might take offense to this thought process? Guess what $C; while at Cal, I was ORDERED by a coach to attempt to injure a teammate. I refused to do so, and while I will never know if I was going to start during my final season, I know that I never did following that refusal. So, yes, I take the hoping for an injury mindset with some seriousness. And try not to be so hackneyed as to play the "anonymous card". I don't see YOUR name anywhere in any of YOUR posts. Bottom line, you get called names because of your insipid and inane comments; not just in this thread, but in past threads as well. You, like many others here, have called others names, insulted and offended with intent. So don't play holier than thou. When you insult others, expect to be insulted in return.
