Are you kidding me? This money needs to be spent on more parking. My son is trying to save money by taking bart from Pittsburg to W.Creek but has to continue on because of no available parking. That includes both Concord stations.

Do you have any idea how OLD those seats are? Do you know how many different people sit in them everyday? Are you aware of how filthy and tattered they are? Would you enjoy a long trip in a car that had seats like that every day? Have you drawn up plans for this parking lot you want? Where would you put it? What is your budget? Has your son tried the "park and ride" lots? How about the bus to BART? In other words, there ARE other options to driving your own car to BART - all you have to do is a little research.

The last reply sounds like it's from West County.  There has been a elitist, anti-auto to the station bias from the urban based BART Directors for years.  While they are quite well intentioned, those folks have proved incapable of grasping that there is a significant difference in bus service between the "suburban" (i.e., central Contra Costa) stations and the urban (SF, Oakland, San Leandro, Berkeley, Albany, Richmond) stations.  Please note that buses in the suburban area only run about once an hour, and do not generally run through most of the neighborhoods.  Parking continues to be a headache at many stations, simply because the car remains the most time efficient method of getting to the suburban BART station.  A number of commuters have prior stops on the way to BART, such as delivering children to school (and yes, a number of older central Contra Costa neighborhoods DO NOT HAVE sidewalks or well-marked cross walks on the narrow 1950's era streets).  That's why parking is such an issue.  As to the seat upgrades, I don't know why BART keeps insisting on carpeting and upholstery in the trains.  DC METRO (sometimes called "BART with the mistakes fixed.") has hard floors and plastic seats in their train cars...and that system runs well outside the DC urban core.

I'd rather see eBart project get the antioch section complete rather than expanding pittsburg station. Pittsburg is full because its the closest station from Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley. As far as the interior goes, they really need to do away with the cloth and carpet. The epoxy flooring they have on some of the floors is definately the way to go. I agree that they need plastic seats. I've never taken DC Metro, but seats like the busses or Muni works for me. I take bart a lot and every other weekend evening, I see someone vomits on the floor or the seats. Nasty!! the cloth and carpet just soaks that stuff up.

It seems bart seems to like to do little test groups before rolling something out. I'll bet if they have both plastic and regular cloth chairs, people will respond better with the plastic despite them being more uncomfortable.

So in conclusion, stop using carpets and cloths and go with something that has a longer life and more sanitary. As far as Parking goes, there's always parking in North Concord. You might have to walk a ways, but its there. Concord being full is temporary because of the Pleasant Hill parking work.
