That's too bad because I was just thinking the other day how lucky Bentwood is, as it seemed the only complaints residents were making about crime involved people having mid-day sex in cars and mysteriously low flying erratic black helicopters.
It just goes to show no area is immune from the more violent type of crime. I was driving to Berkeley yesterday and on Tunnel Road there was a big banner announcing an Anti-Crime Town Hall meeting. The crime is becoming an issue no matter where you live.
Your right crime is everywhere, but I don't think we can jump to the conclusion that this was a blazing fire fight in Brentwood, based on the article. Could have been an negligent discharge. I have seen people say that there were 10 to 15 shoots fired when in reality there was only 1. So lets just hold off on thinking that this was one thing without knowing any facts besides someone was shot. It could have been a shooting but based on the facts in the article, we really can not say for sure.
Well.....the only crimes would be firearm violations such as negligent discharge of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm that sort of thing. As for shooting himself that would only come under the heading of Karma.
It is real simple people see and hear what they want to. How often have you seen on the news someone say that they saw such and such and someone else saw it completely different. Not to mention "shots fired" is a generic term in police work, I have gone to more than one of those "shots fired" calls at hotels that were actually suicides, and never have I been to one where someone shot themself twice.

There's a trickle effect. It's bound to trickle.

If somebody shoots themself does it count as a shooting or not? Maybe Cowboy knows the answer to that one.
This could be like the Maytag Man that finally gets a service call only to find out the lady didn't have the washer plugged in.
