I saw that Smokey and wondered the same thing. It's too early for a Christmas tree lot or pumpkin patch. It seems too close to the gas station for a new retail pad. Maybe they are going to do some underground work of some sort and it's a barrier to protect the public? There's a lot of stuff going on under the ground when there's a gas station nearby. Maybe that has something to do with it?
LOL! 5150: Involuntary Psychiatric Hold. Those are just temporary anyway until the county shrinks check you out by showing you a few Rorschach inkblots and deem you fit for society given today's low standards for mental fitness. The guy that punched the camel is probably already signing his discharge papers.
Actually I'll be glad if it turns out to be another Starbucks. With the economy so bad right now, the Starbucks indicator is the only positive forecast we have right now to hold on to and give us hope. God help us if Starbucks starts scaling back.
The fact that they see the value in putting a store there is great news. A lot of people were amazed when the one at East 18th and A went in, but it appears to be thriving. Maybe downtown will be next?
I know of a couple of prime candidates for a 5150 on these forums. Come to think of it, straight jackets are probably the only way these two will ever stop posting.
I thought I heard that Starbucks already is scaling back their goal of world domination. This Starbucks thing could just be a rumor or maybe done tongue in cheek since up until recently, any new construction had at least a 50/50 chance of being a Starbucks regardless of the location.
I think it really is a Starbucks. A friend of mine stopped and asked the workers what was being built, and they said a Starbucks. I had heard maybe a year ago, that a Starbucks was supposed to be built on Somersville, but hadn't heard any more until now. Doesn't really surprise me, as there aren't really any in that area. Closest is probably the one by Raley's in Pittsburg. At least it is somewhere other than Lone Tree Way!
I just drove by it again this morning and it looks like it's the right size and location for a Starbucks so that's where my money is. Like Stoney said, the odds are good. The workers wouldn't have any reason to lie either. If they did lie just for the fun of it, they would be more likely to say HOOters than Starbucks.
I went to get a Jamba Juice by WingStop and I noticed a larger retail building for lease close to the El Pollo Loco off Century Blvd. It's vacant. Maybe that was slated for the HOOters at one time so they weren't just unsubstantiated rumors? Maybe the HOOters didn't get any support, so they went to some other town that would embrace them with open arms? Who knows?

That would my guess too.
Hide what might be going on under the ground by putting a Starbucks right on top of it so nobody will notice. Perfect! LOL!

You think it's just a widespread rumor like the Pittsburg HOOters that turned out to be an El Pollo Loco?
