I hate the niners (seahawk fan) but he has a lot better tools than shaun hill. You can only "manage" games so long. Sooner or later, you need to at least have the ability to throw the ball more than 20 yards.
Alex Smith was thrown under the bus by the previous coaching staff. He deserves a second chance. Now if he blows it this time, it is his own fault. He now has a good coach and good receivers. So it is his opportunity to either squander or make the best!
It's true that Alex Smith played great yesterday but the big problems with the Niners are the offensive line and especially the defense. Yesterday the running game was non-existent even with Gore back and the defense allowed the Texans to go down the field multiple times. The Niners brought it back to 21-14 and then the defense allowed Houston to go down for what ended up being the winning field goal. What happened to the defense that shut down the opponents in the first 4 games?
