Jessica: you need to re-frame your recent very welcome article on wineries in SC mountains. I lived there and  visited the wineries for 28 years. However, your comment about Ridge Winery surpassing the french vintners in the Paris tastings of '76 was only partially correct. I was a member of the Ridge wine club for many years and Ridge emphatically did not win the Paris tastings. It was Stag's Leap in Napa County. True, on some wine judges cards ( all of which are available for viewing in Wiki) Ridge Cab did better than some French Chateaux.
