See my post under -MAN KILLED ON RR TRACKS.........................................It's still hard for me to believe he didn't hear the train or feel the tracks.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Carl: This place got a pool?
Ty: Pool and a pond....... Pond be good for you.
Shocking, and so sad that a young boy will never see tomorrow. One has to wonder if he was suicidal, playing chicken, or took too much of a risk. This brings back memories years ago when my friends little 13 year old sister was hit by an Amtrak train on the overpass in Pittsburg as she crossed it as a short cut to get home a block away. She would have been 29. So sad yet so tragic. I feel the familiy's pain right now.
First off my sypathy to friends and family. Now to the serious side maybe what is needed out here is a dedicated patrol force like San Mateo County did a few years back along the CalTrain route, officers who patrol the RR tracks and educate people walking along or on the tracks. The tracks belong to BNSF and they have their own police department, but you don't see them too often. A few citations for trespassing on the RR right or way will do the trick hopefully.
Kids and adults need to know exactly how dangerous the tracks can be, and how long it takes to stop a train from speed. I don't remember the exact numbers I was told years ago when I was a young rookie working a car stuck on the tracks, but the engineer told me that it took something like 2 miles to stop a loaded train at 35 mph.
People this is a serious matter please lets educate our kids, and other kids there are many new families in our area some have never been around RR tracks, if you see something that looks dangerous (kids playing around the tracks walking on the tressels ect) do something get involved, maybe save a life. If you don't want to do it yourself call the police 625-8060, they will never be too busy to help prevent another tragedy, I hope.
I wonder if this poor boy was fairly new to the area. My kids all went to Vintage Parkway (the elementary school right by these railroad tracks), and they always made a point several times a year to teach the kids about the dangers of those tracks. I feel bad for his family.
