Since Clayton Valley, YV and the other schools left the BVAL, how do you think Heritage, Freedom, Pitt, Liberty, and Antioch will do? Who are the top athletes in this league?
6-17-08
Unless Pittsburg self destructs, they should run the table followed by Deer Valley,Hertiage High,Freedom,Liberty and Antioch...This has all the makings of a real tough league...
Good predictions; Pittsburg I heard from the norcalpreps msg boards will be strong this year with a good number of returnees and good players from the JV pool getting promoted. Still remember how the JV's held back DLS to only 14 pts last year. Anyway, calpreps only shows six games for Pittso far with nonleague preseason games vs Sacred Heart Cathedral and Berkeley. Pitt must have 1 or maybe 2 more games available---anybody knows who with??? Antioch also doesn't yet have a complete list.
Got some update today, Pitt is playing Monte Vista in preseason games after Sacred Heart Cathedral. This is good; since DLS left BVAL for EBAL , I sort of expected more games between BVAL and EBAL. Antioch hasn't registered a game sched with Pitt yet, but still it leaves Pitt with 2 more nonleague games. I like the quality of nonleague opponents so far.
Pitt coaches keep us updated with the 2 remaining nonleague opponents. Thx.

The games scheduled with Berkeley and Monte Vista should be a real test. Sacred Heart Cathedral shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Pirates....With a strong returning force and a good JV team to pick from....They will be hard to beat unless they go sour at times like they did in past years....Maybe this may be the Pirates of old.....
Pitt @ Sacred Heart
Pitt vs. Monte Vista
Pitt vs. Berkely
Pitt vs. Lutheren(Burbank)
Pitt vs. Fremont(Oakland)
Not sure about the order but its pretty close...after those 5 we enter league play...
6-29-08
Luther Burbank usually has lots of speed and the plays are well coordinated, plus a fair sized line. This should be another good test...Fremont always has speed, But they face the same problems as Mt. Diablo...Keeping kids out of jail and maintaining their grades to play...Pittsburg has their workcut out for them...But this is what makes you sharp..Go Pirates..
Don't know Luther Burbank that much. What league are they part of? Is this the same as Burbank (Sacramento) in the Metropolitan League that beat Grant 27-21 last year but lost to Del Oro (Loomis) in playoffs, or are we talking Burbank (LA) in Pacific League? Burbank (Sacramento) won over Clayton Valley last year, so this must be a good team.
7-01-08
Kriart......Luther Burbank is the Sacramento team, I don't know how many are returning from last years squad...But This team seems to come up with what ever it takes to win games..This game could be a track meet..but its early yet....
i think it is going to be between pitt and heritage on whoever will win league. i don't think liberty and antioch are going to be that good. freedom could be the sleeper though. the top athletes in the league are definately diallo lawson, and anthony jackson at heritage, roman runner at freedom, and rasjan hines at antioch
6-30-08
HHS Football...you are probably right....I haven't heard much about Deer Valley, but between them and Freedom, both will be dangerous and it won't be wise to over look them...Liberty is a maybe and Antioch needs to get together...there is talent there, but will they come out??
i dont think antioch will be very good this year. they fired beede and his staff which was retarded. the staff thy have from what i've heard just doesnt have it together
Liberty will probably be a 2 win team this year because they dont have a lot of players and have lost players but the year after they can do something because they do have a talented JV team this year with a really fast QB.
Dont count out Antioch as a nobody, I just watched them at the San Jose Camp and they have a LOT of speed, there QB is a very very good fast Athlete and they where running the Fly offense which if you have the QB and speed is tuff to defense
Just Curious what position you play ?
What Players should stand out on Heritage, what new players ( JV or transfers) might help/start ?? Give us some insight to the team
Great, thanks for the info bluedog. Much discussion was made in past years in norcalpreps.com about Grant challenging Pitt, so having the team , Burbank (Sacramento) that beat Grant last year 27-21, should be a much better game to watch. Burbank lost to a much better team, though, Del Oro (Loomis) with a very close score in playoffs. Pitt should beat Burbank to earn bragging rights over Grant.
7-02-08
Kriart ...Seems to me that Burbank had a hard time with Clayton Valley last year although ther score wouldn't indicate it and Grant lost a lot of the previous team to grad.. but still came up with a contender....So I think you are right...Pittsburg should give them a rough time or worse. Now i'm wondering what kind of a pre-season schedule that Heritage and Deer Valley have lined up so we can gauge what will happen in league play. Hertiage should still have one game left with Novato...so what else is on the horizon....And we haven't heard any thing from the Deer Valley people. Freedom,Antioch or Liberty......
Antioch has Edison (stockton), Miramonte, Ygnacio Valley, College Park and Alhambra as Non League.
So whoever scheduled this should be canned. So you run the table in these games and it doesn't help you. They are all 2-3A teams. I am not discounting them they are all VERY GOOD teams and AHS will has some issues with them.
Why would you do this? Maybe because you jumped ship.
You schedule YV, Why????. Thats asking for it. If you played these types of teams week in week out, maybe. You have to change your whole defense when you play them. That is the same reason Top 25 teams stayed away from Air Force and Navy. It does nothing for you and they might just beat you. Good luck.
Miramonte has the history of throwing the ball well. I don't think Antioch has ever played them, I also don't think they are as good since Burnsed left. College Park is Scary and on a mission, Edison I hear has alot of transfers the school on probabation in that area (Name?), they are athletic. Alhambra ???.
You can schedule good teams but they better be 4A, getting waxed by 4A is better than running the table against 2A.
7-03-08
AHS Watcher.......Don't sell the Panthers short...They have a real tough preseason schedule and the toughest might be Edison of Stockton...they have speed and size and then of course theres YG which is a ground grinding team...And you are right about College Park...these guys have a bad habit of scoring a lot of points....Miramonte likes to throw, but Antioch should be ready for them.....Alhambra has a one loss JV team moving to varsity with good size and a couple of hard runners plus a few carry overs from last year...this game will be close....antioch has the personnel...they just have to make it work......
AHSwatcher
how can u say that getting waxed by 4a is better than running the table against 2a? that is not a very smart post. there are teams accross the US that are in the top 25 that are 2a. remember there are very good 2a teams out there. you cant knock a team because of their population. look at Cardinal Newman, population wise they are an A team, but choose to run play in the 3a bracket. last years 2a eastbay champs, Las Lomas, couldve probably beat half of the 4a bracket.
"how can u say that getting waxed by 4a is better than running the table against 2a? that is not a very smart post."
What I meant was when the season is over and possibly you go to the seedings meeting. If you beat these 2 and 3A teams your argument against you is " They were 2a". If you lose to them well then your done. Several years ago Pitt beat a very good Miramonte team, pounded some smaller teams and when it came time to seed the playoffs they ended up being the 7th or 8th seed because they squeaked by Miramonte. They didn't care how good they were. They were 2A.
Like I also said it's the reason USC doesn't schedule and will never schedule Navy (maybe now since Paul Johnson is gone). It hurts your rank. Look at Michigan last year and losing to App. State. Whatever spin you put on that matchup, Michigan loses. You don't see Pitt scheduling Miramonte anymore. The BVAL realigned, YV and CV are out. 2-3A. CV and YV could have a crappy overall record and make a case that they played all these 4A schools. They get the Nod.
I hope AHS runs the table. They have some good guys over there.
hey i think we are kind of on the same page here. grant is a very jealous team that gets very little respect. they probably should get more but they dont challenge the right people. They have an entire OAL to choose from and as you know the OAL will play anybody. They should have played DLS and or PITT but they are pretenders. They should challenge Berkeley, San Leandro, Monte Vista, Amador Valley, Antioch, Deer Valley, Foothill, SRV, Las Lomas, Pinole, BOD, Encinal, Cardinal Newman. But they are all talk

LBO5ONIT......Grant tried to schedule DLS for the 2007 season, but DLS was scheduled out and it would have been a good thing as Grant didn't have the team they had in 2006 as DLS would have giving them a good beating....In the 2007 season, Grant played Bakersfield and lost 14-7 and then turned around and gave Valley Christian of San Jose a pounding at 34-12 . And Franklin of stockton...In the Playoff's they murdered Union Mine of El dorado 63-0 but Lutheran Burbank stopped Grant...And them Burbank lost to Del Oro. And Del Oro is no Mickey Mouse team.... Now Pittsburg has scheduled Burbank....I watched Burbank play Benicia in 2005 and they were fast and big and out scored Bencia 32-27.This coming season Pittsburg will face the same thing, but Pittsburg should be ready. Grant lost a lot of people to grad in 2007, so how strong they will be is any bodies guess and their Coach I believe is retiring or retired, so things could be different at Grant...They have gone down the valley and played some strong teams in the past, so they aren't affraid of any body.....
7-20-08
LBO50NIT......Correction....Bakersfield stopped Grant 28-21 and Franklin Forfeited to Grant. And Grant played Valley christian in 2006 not 2007 and the same with Union mines. Burbank outscored Grant 27-21 in league play and lost there first playoff game to Ponderosa 21-14.... And again its a good thing that Grant didn't get DLS on their schedule as it would have been a rude awaking in 2007...The Pittsburg-Burbank game will be a real test for both teams, but Pittsburg has the guns to win....

CP is division 1 now, but CV is division 2 along with YV and Heritage. Alhambra & Miramonte are division 3. Here is the link to the NCS website that shows the new classifications for Football:

Got my answer from Pitt's website; the schedule at Pitt is on Friday, Sept 5 at 7:00pm with De la Salle, James Logan, Fairfield and Turlock, and of course Pitt participating. Hmmm, that's a good start! Just wonderin if Pitt will meet DLS again in the Div 1 playoffs. Let's see how the match up in scrimmage.
8-05-08
It will be interesting to see how much DLS has rebuilt from last year and just how strong Pittsburg is....James Logan should be tough, but Turlock and fairfield shouldn't be any trouble. There are a lot of preseason games beginning on 9-05 so some decisions are going to be made as to which one to see....K...I just got back in town so I wasn't able to answer you question about the Pittsburg Scrimmage.....
Yeah, I've got the same question. Last year's startng QB, Mario Hill, was just a junior. Was he relegated to 2nd string; I understand he was a little slow then being a 1st time starter but I imagined he would've improve this year and being tall at 6' plus, he'd be more effective and quicker. Is the new starting QB the JV qback who was elevated to varsity in playoff's last year who had a great long arm? Despite being shorter than Hill, he had good signs then and was quicker and I wouldn't be surprised if he's a lot better now.
Hill had some personal issues that forced him to change schools...i beleave he attends Bethel(Vallejo) now, i may be wrong...the new starting QB is Joe Lewis...Lewis was the 2nd string QB his sophmore year...he quit football to focus on baseball(he is a top baseball recruit) and now he has returned to play and is progressing very well and we are very confident in his play so far...the JV QB from last season is now playing RB and DB...
Thanks for the info. I remember Lewis when he was Craig Piper's backup QB in 2006. Tall guy maybe as tall as Mario Hill and he knows Pitt's offensive plays, ....sorry about Hill's movin' out of Pitt to Vallejo? (might be a good opportunity for him). With last yr's JV QB playing RB and DB, plus returners Avery Patterson and Brian Flowers---there is so much speed in Pitt. And with strong (big) guys like Emeka Williams, Cody Maxwell etc.. Pitt is living up to their reputation, I hope, as a strong, big and fast team. Good luck!

Just wanted to correct you...RB/DB Bryce Flowers, and OT/DT Cody Colwell...and then u throw in guys like OL/DE Hector Orozco, WR DJ Young, DT Adias Lane, and DB's Tracy Clark and Buddy Reid(just to name a few) we have very high hopes for this team...
Thanks for the correction; the calpreps preview did mention these power returnees and the force coming from the JV, which had only one loss last season to DLS ( and DLS was only limited by the Pitt JVs to only 2 TDs--the Pitt JVs really did a good job vs DLS last yr). I've never seen DLS Varsity Coach Bob Ladoceour getting frantic and joining their JV coach yelling at their boys on the sidelines when they couldn't seem to get through the Pitt "D". Now we'd be seeing that Pitt JV force joining the varsity team.
1. Will Freedom win the league title this year?
2. Can Heritage graduate their O-line/LB's and still have a playoff year?
3. Will Liberty win their first league game since 2005?
1.NO, Pittsburg is the favorite for that. You gotta dethrone the champ before you can name a new one. And with the up and coming JV squad from Pitt last year. I see this as another league title year.
2. Probably Not
3. NO. The weaker schools left, just made there quest of a victory tougher.
Lets hope so......From what I hear Jordan Smith is their starting quarterback this year on varsity. He is the brother of Jason Smith who is now the starting quarterback for Sacramento State and was Liberty's last winning quarterback in 2005. Maybe the tradition can continue????
I have seen a lot of talk about PITT on this forum.. So How bout we predict the final league outcome.
1. Pitt
2.Freedom
3.Heritage
4.DV.
5.Antioch
6.Liberty
I didn't get a chance to see any of them. I had a friend who saw the Liberty scrimmage and apparently they looked good against all three opponents. Granted, they said Acalanes was garbage, YV had no Woods, but Pitman is a good football school from Sac-Joaquin.
How did Heritage and Freedom do? Who did they scrimmage?
9-01-08
Acalanes has only seven returning players from last years squad and the JV team will not contribute much to this years squad...We will find out for sure this coming Friday what the Don's are made of.....
Lets here everybody's predictions for week 1
Fri 09/05 Freedom (Oakley, CA) at Amador Valley (Pleasanton, CA), 7:00pmFri 09/05 Liberty (Brentwood, CA) at Clayton Valley (Concord, CA), 7:00pmFri 09/05 Mt. Carmel (San Diego, CA) at Heritage (Brentwood, CA), 7:30pmFri 09/05 Antioch (CA) at Miramonte (Orinda, CA), 7:00pmFri 09/12 Washington (Fremont, CA) at Deer Valley (Antioch, CA), 7:30pmFri 09/12 Sacred Heart Cathedral (San Francisco, CA) vs Pittsburg (CA) at Kezar Stadium (San Francisco, CA), 7:00pm
Freedom 35 AV 14 AV is on a down year
already predicted liberty v CV...i think CV relatively easy
Mt Carmel v Heritate is a pick-em game
Antioch 28 Miramonte 21 Miramonte has no defense
WHS / DV lets see how both perform this week first
Pitt 28 SH 7...too many athletes for SH to handle...SH only has 2
