this is only half of NCS. It doesnt have any of the teams from what used to be the redwood empire

As this is the Contra Costa Times, I only included teams local to Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. Most posters here don't know much about, and frankly don't seem to be all that interested in, Redwood Empire schools. If you are curious, you could certainly go to the effort of making your own list. Thanks.

there has been some coverage and talk of the DVAL and BVAL teams on these forums. But what about Hayward Arroyo and San Lorenzo? How are these teams gonna be next year?

I don't know how calpreps comes up with these ratings because some just seem off the mark.

I'm sure they are based more on what happened last year than actually analyzing each teams' strengths for the coming season, as there are so many unknowns right now. I wouldn't worry too much if a team you are rooting for looks to be lower than they should, as it will all be played out on the field anyway. After all, this isn't the BCS (Thank God).

I think what would make sense is they would base it off of the record of the previous year, then the amount of returning starters, then the strength of schedule.

You can't base it on previosyear record because high school football has so much turnover. They should just scratch the preseason rankings and wait until after 2 games are played.

I agree, but people want to see the rankings, even if they are off base. They would rather have us looking at their website with bogus rankings, than go to bogus rankings on some other site.

The one that surprises me most in D1 is Heritage. I did not see them play last year, and their losses were all to quality teams, but this list puts them in some rarified air, ahead of some historically strong teams.

I thought the same thing. They play Monte Vista in non-league this year so we will be able to see quickly if this ranking is valid or not.

Please dont over-look the yellowjackets this season, they are the real deal. Big and physical O line, with the Bay Area top back, in Ricky Galvin. A fast and physical defense, with Keenan Coogler, Aaorn Norton-Buford, and Deleancy Parham. All you non believers, get ready for the jackets.

Berkeley had a big O line last year too. They also had Ricky Galvin. Just out of curiosity, what makes them so much better this year? Also, are they scheduling any harder opponents? There league is pretty terrible, and thats why they run through it so easily. The one challenge they had to play was Pittsburg, and they diden't do to good at all.

They have a new oline coach in vince bordelon, an experienced line coach, who has been with carter for six seasons, thirteen at DVC, and two at Chabot, five returning o-line, who been working hard in the classroom, and weight room. Ponderosa was ok, Freedom is average, Pittsburg is good, hopefully, Monte Vista will handle them, but your correct, league is terrible, they have added four D 1 preseason, they have to win a playoff game. we will see, one game at atime.

Nice. If this O Line coach can get those boys to play, they might actually be good. They had these huge O Linemen last year, but they played soft, and weren't strong at all. Dont kno much about Ponderosa. You guys should wreck Freedom, i heard their terrible this year and they have never been known for their size. Pittsburg is gunna giv you guys a good game, and can match your athletes easily, despite wat MV might do to them. Berkeley better win all those preseason games, because their league gets them no respect at all.
