Who is going to be chosen for the all-BVAL team? Obviously Freedom High's pitchers Branden Petrangelo and Billy Wardell of Freedom have to be part of it. Chad Combs is there. Dustin Wold's hitting this year (30 runs scored, .505 on-base %; .658 slugging) now matches his stellar fielding (did you see his play of the week nomination on Cal High Sports a few weeks back? Wold made a sensational diving catch in Freedom's 1-0 win over De La Salle.). Freedom shortstop Daniel Pereirra also deserves consideration. CVHS's Mitch Wilhite, Liberty's Drew Gagnon, and DLS's Mike MacGillivray have all pitched well. Deer Valley's Jared Denham, Pittsburg's Mario Valle, DLS's Allen Stiles, and Antioch's Cory Foreman are good players.

You must be the parents of Wold. It's pretty obvious when you are able to quote his stats! He made one diving catch this year and really hasn't done to much else. I follow all of the BVAL and have for over 20 years. We all know GARY inflates the stats on maxpreps!!!! Give me a break. I agree with Petrangelo, Wardell and Combs from Freedom.

Freedom stats on MaxPreps are accurate and are double checked by several of the players parents. Dustin Wold leads the league in runs scored with 31. ( 8 doubles, 3 Triples, HR ) You must have only watched one Freedom game this year if you think Dustin has made only one diving catch and hasn't done too much else. You should change your user name to Onewhodoesn'tknow.

Please DO NOT go off of maxpreps as its usually just a team parent that inputs the stats !!!

I watched more than one! If Freedom is the team to beat how come they lost to Clayton twice. They played two weak teams Drake and Washington. The BVAL was weak this year you have to admit that! I think PARENTS shouldn't put their kids stats out on these posts let their play speak for ITSELF!

Is this an All League chat or a Freedom chat? While we are on the Freedom topic, congrats on your first BVAL Title. Dont get too cocky though. Freedom has only played 7 tough games all year (CV twice, DLS twice, Foothill, Pinole Valley, and Newark) and they are 1-6 in those games!!! ONE AND SIX!!!

First team all league candidates:

Petrangelo (FREE), Wardell (FREE), Combs (FREE), Wold (FREE), Stiles (DLS), MacGillivray (DLS), Peters (DLS), Wilhite (CV), Mathews (CV), Denham (DV), Eagle (DV), Redhead (DV), Gagnon (LIB), Roe (LIB), Howard (HER), Ard (ANT), Foreman (ANT)

MVP: Combs (FREE), Petrangelo (FREE)

I sure would hate to see Matt Rudder from Clayton Valley left off the All league as he was not only the Leader but the heart & sole of the team, led team in hitting .444 and provided solid play at 1st base all year !!!!

How do you go from assuming that BuckSavge is Dustin Wold's father, to telling him he shouldn't be entering stats into MaxPreps?

Savage has been posting on these board for quite some time and I'd be quite surprised if he is this young man's Dad. It's fine if you disagree with his opinion, but don't accuse him of something on the basis of YOUR assumption.

Read the post. I said he shouldn't post his kids stats here! I said let your childs play speak for itself!

As I said you are ASSUMING that Savage is this young man's father. From what I know, I don't believe he is; thus he HASN'T posted his kid's stats since it's NOT his kid!

I've been around; just the new format doesn't lend itself as well to actually addressing specific individuals. Plus, as you know, I'm definitely more into things during FB season :)

Just for the fun of it. Go back and read all of his posts. Funny Wold's name is brought up everytime. Hmmmmm interesting. My comment is let their play speak for itself. If it's not a relative then where are Wardell and Combs hitting and on base stats??????

I live in the San Ramon Valley and am not Dustin Wold's parent, nor of anyone on Freedom. I see San Ramon Valley play more than anyone. I would like to hear what people think of the EBAL, but nobody on here ever writes about that league. I looked up Wold's stats because last year when I mentioned his fielding, someone argued with me about Darrel Mathews and David Gray being better centerfielders. I figured this year I would have some data backing me up. I realize that mistakes get made on maxpreps but if you compare your own scoring to what gets entered, it's usually pretty accurate. I like talking about Freedom because they seem to get more people riled up than talking about how much SRV misses Rick Steen or Foothill's impressive lineup especially Troy Channing and Justin Serrao. I also like poking fun at the De La Salle worshipers. You all need to accept that Freedom won the BVAL this year. They didn't lose to Heritage, or Pittsburg, or Deer Valley, or Liberty. Except for Newark, they played all the other good teams close. The top EBAL teams look pretty good, but CVHS, DLS and Freedom will have a chance in the playoffs if their pitchers have good games. It's high school and anything can happen. I hope all the kids have fun because these are their "Glory Days" [yes, I am referencing The Boss].

While I don't think MaxPreps stats are anywhere close to being accurate, and are subject to coaches and parental whims, they are the only stats many of us have to look at. Congrats to Freedom for a great regular season and BVAL championship, and good luck at NCS.

Why is it that max preps is so untrustworthy?? Why have a website dedicated to all these sports and have it be wrong? Where can we go to get accurate information? Does it matter what is on maxpreps to anyone other than the player? ANYWAY>>> Congrats to Freedom High School Baseball on there BVAL Championship!! I am very proud of you boys! and at NCS i will be keeping my own stats!

Chad Combs was MVP. Well-deserved, he was an awesome offensive force (0.984 slugging). Freedom also featured twin aces Branden Petrangelo and Billy Wardell. Wardell led off for the BVAL champs and had a great year, playing outfield when he wasn't pitching (28 runs, 25 RBI); Dustin Wold completes the champion's contingent. From the second place teams, we have Mitch Wilhite, Darrel Matthews, and Matt Arruda (0.711 slugging, with many key hits) of Clayton Valley. And from the other runner-up, Mike MacGillivray (7-1, 64 Ks) and Mike Franceschi of De La Salle.  From Liberty, Nolan Roe (0.717 slugging) joined star pitcher Drew Gagnon (8-3, 1.59 ERA). Jared Denham of Deer Valley (26 steals, 33 runs scored), Ryan Howard of Heritage (0.462 slugging, 0.500 OBP), and Derron Ard (18 steals) of Antioch completed the roster.
