It is with great pleasure that the Antioch Police Officers Association (APOA) announces its endorsement of Gary Agopian for County Supervisor District 5 in Contra Costa County. Four years ago we endorsed Mr. Agopian in his bid for a position on the school board. We believed then, as we do now, that he was the best person for the job. During his tenure on the School Board he was instrumental in leading the way for positive change in our school system and helped address many of its financial issues. He is a man of his word and has worked diligently to improve school safety as well educational and extra curricular programs for kids. Our rigorous interview process led us to believe that, once again, Mr. Agopian is the right man for the job. We believe that he does his homework, has personal and professional integrity and will work with cities and communities in a way that is expected of our Supervisor. His actions demonstrate that he is a strong supporter of law enforcement and safe neighborhoods. We endorse Mr. Agopian for Supervisor in District 5.

I respect Stoney's opinion, BJ's, too, because they have their finger on the pulse of the community and knows what's going on. They've been to the Forums, Coffee with the Cops, etc. and are more knowledgable on local politics than I am. I defer, and will vote according to both their recommendations when that time comes. As far as presidential votes, however, I'm sticking with Obama...

Thanks for the kind words Roy but the police officers endorcement is pretty good advice if you asked me. BJ and I may have our finger on a tiny capillary but the police have a sphygnomometer on the real pulse.

Hey, I haven't announced what I think, I plan to stay impartial for once and just make observations. One thing I notice from just driving around, Nunn seems to be winning in the "most signage" category. I travel mostly over Kirker Pass and Buchanan, and Nunn has lots of large yellow signs, some in very close proximity to each other. Glover is a close second, as he's got quite a few signs and some big ones out there too, but Nunn has that big billboard off Hwy 4 near the car dealerships that's hard to miss. Gary needs more signs along those routes. I believe I only noticed one little one on Kirker Pass near the Pittsburg Mallards sign. I didn't notice the larger red Agopian signs until I got to that lot at Somersville and Buchanan and everybody has them there. Travelling down Somersville toward downtown I sarted seeing a lot more Agopian signs. Of course, I'm only commenting on the little route I generally travel on. If I remember correctly, Erik Nunn has a large "Firefighters" endorsement sign and federal Glover has the large "Nurses" endorsement sign. I know it's getting close to electiion day, but Gary Agopian could equalize the endorsement sign game by getting a large "Police Association" sign if the time and budget allows. I know that's pretty shallow of me to suggest the one with the bigger and better signs might win, but before I got on this discussion board and became an informed person, I used to do the "eeny, meeny, miney, mo" selection process. I'd just like to see the signage equal so it's eliminated from the equation and people can just pick the name they like the best. I admit I've done that in the past too, but at least I upheld my civil duties and voted.

Why are there Mark DeSaulnier signs still posted? Didn't he just win an Assembly seat? If he wins whatever he's running for, who gets his Assembly seat? Does it just sit vacant until the next election? Who's he running against this time?

I know that the experts will probably tell you that just like negative campaigning works, (in spite of what people might tell you privately), so does a lot of signage. (when the heck did that word get invented?) But for those of us who consider all of those signs as blight, and realize that most of them won't get taken down after the election, we may just choose the candidate with fewer signs. Maybe Gary's are more tasteful. You know...quality, not quantity. Do you think if we put some signs up showing that OFEC endorses him, it might make just enough of a difference and nudge him into the victory column?

Hello all

How about a sign in your yard? Gary doesn't have the funding to purchase such huge signs. He is trying to get at least one mailer out there that costs a lot too! He is grassrooting this whole campaign. All donations are coming from just regular folks in the community. It's takes $$ching, ching$$ to get mega signs like that of Nunn and Glover. Big money behind those two. Glover has been around for a while and has accured funding. I can't be sure where he is getting financial support but Nunn has friends in the development world....Seeno comes to mind ;)

A little known fact on these boards, is Stoney is an incredible artist. With a sheet of plywood as his canvas, and a little Dutch Boy paint, I bet he could make a big homemade sign announcing his candidate's latest endorsement that would be perfect for Buchanan road or Kirker Pass. I know his hands are full with the boombox thing, but maybe he could set that aside until after the election?

Tell me more about Agopian. He seems very nice. Also, why is he leaving the school board at a time when the district is coming unglued and they need him.

Those Nunn signs along Kirker Pass are on Seeno property and you need his permission to put out your signs, Nunn has it as he is being backed by Seeno, so....

Whoever posted the signs for Federal Glover must have a great sense of humor. They put a campaign sign right next to that other guy's sign who has his regular business on Kirker Pass so now it appears to say:

Glover Delivers

Firewood 200 yds

I wonder what his surcharge is for deliveries over 200 yards? :) That's a great slogan, but did they anticipate the ramifications if some donkey decided to dump their old appliances or discarded mattresses right in front of a Glover Delivers sign? Luckily, whoever is responsible for cleaning up the junk on Kirker Pass has been doing a great job lately. Do candidates really have to get Seeno's permission to post a sign on Kirker Pass? Does Seeno own it right up to the shoulder of the road? The folks who use it as a regular dumping ground surely don't ask for permission. LOL

I noticed the Mary Rocha signs today too. The wind didn't appear to knock any of the candidates signs down. From the best of my recollection, they were all accounted for when I went by today.
