the low lifes in this town never cease to amaze me (TERRORIZE,ROB,PILLAGE AND BRING DOWN THE QUALITY OF LIFE) to every one in this once nice town with minimal crime, sec 8 and thugs. this lady got robbed outside a decent store surrounded by low income apts.where low lifes fester. i hope she had insurance on the ring. support your local NRA take a weapons training course protect your self why not convenient stores being robbed of late are fighting back, send a message to the vermin that you just cant walk up and take what other people that have jobs have earned.

Yeah, it really is terrible JHD that you can't walk around with nice things because somebody might steal them from you. I told my wife I'd rather go down kicking and fighting than give up my wedding ring. Besides, I've gained so much weight over the past 17.5 years I can't get the damn thing off my finger... but I didn't tell her that part.

Arachnid- Although he Macy's in Antioch is ghetto, where else would she shop? I guess it could be a scam, but your reason sounds a little "fishy" to me.

My first thought was that it sounds fishy. I feel bad for saying that but I wouldn't walk around with $25,000 on my finger. I hope she had insurance if the story is true. No witnesses though, huh? And why was she walking by the docks? Hmm.

I think the TIMES knew by stressing the $25,000 valuation of the ring, it would raise a lot of eyebrows. Now if it was one of those designer type handbags the ladies all carry around these days, it wouldn't have aroused as much suspicion. We didn't hear from the poor guy that gave his fiance a ring like that. Can you imagine the horror for him? What is he supposed to do now? Go buy another one? Did he buy it on credit or cash? What a hard lesson for him about how much getting married can cost a guy. I guess the only silver lining for him is he learned it upfront when most guys don't experience the sticker shock until it's too late. Hey Cowboy, do the police work harder on a case if the value of the property lost is above a certain amount, or do they approach them all the same regardless of value? I only ask because I might be in the market for a new automobile and that might determine whether I buy a new Aston Martin or a '77 Plymouth Arrow. No, just kidding, the only way I'd be able to buy an Aston Martin is if I bought the James Bond one that guy delivering it to the movie set drove into that Italian lake last week. Even the "as is" price would probably be too much for me.

Actually in this case value has no effect as it is a felony robbery as the property was taken with force or fear. Doesn't matter if it was a $25,000 ring or a ring out of a gumball machine. As far as thefts go $400 and under is a misdemeanor (Petty Theft) over $400 a felony (Grand Theft). There are some exceptions, one of which Roy will be glad to hear, the theft of fruits-vetables- nuts over $100 becomes Grand Theft. There are other exceptions but if anybody really cares they can check out 487 of the Penal Code. As for which is worked harder its a no brainer. When I retired all Petty Thefts without suspects or leads were not even dispatched but cleared with an event number given to the victim. If there was a suspect/lead the patrol officer originally assigned the call would work the case to the end. On Grand Thefts the patrol officer would take the original report and do as much work on it as time allowed before sending it through the system. If there were no leads the case might be suspended at that level or be sent to investigations with the workable cases. Due to the caseload in investigations the cases are prioritized so a minor Grand Theft or similar case might collect a little dust in the "In Basket". That's just my opinion, but I could be Wrong.

Thanks Cowboy, that's really good info for people to understand how it works. The only problem for Roy with the fruits, veggies, and nuts is that it doesn't apply to squirrels. That's why he takes the law into his own hands. LOL

That's OK, I think he has been "Deputized" for squirrel control. That's just my opinion, but I could be Wrong.

I just want to say that I have a married 21 year old daughter. Her wedding ring is approximately 5 karots. The appraisal value is approx. $20,000.00 however; the diamonds in her ring were mine, hers and her grandmothers. It is possible for a young girl to wear an expensive ring. The situation might not be a scam. I think we should give this young girl the benefit of the doubt.

thank you for explaining how a kid could reasonably have something like that and not have the type of income or money bags family/fiance that can afford $25,000 for a rock

I've been reading these post and came to wondering this....how did this robber know the ring was even real? With all the knock offs and cubic zirconia's and such out there, why was this woman a target? Has anyone even seen her (publicly)? And as for the loading docks..I've noticed that there really isn't a place for people to be walking around there. Why was she there and not walking to her car in a normal route? (Or where ever she was walking to) The news (channel2) announced that there were no security cameras in that area as well. I wish there was more concrete information out there so it could set aside any doubts that people may have on this story. Proud Member of UCBN
