Too bad the flow determination referenced by Ms. Kohler (EDF) does not actually have to be followed when permits are issued to the BDCP for the canal. Just another example of how the bill creating the Stewardship Council does nothing to require Delta protection/restoration as the BDCP moves forward. It is shocking that these environmental groups would sign onto this package of legislation which primarily benefits water exporters, not the environment.

mike thanks for all your great work on calif water issues. a long time ago i asked if you thought you'd be fired for doing thorough environmental reporting. you're still there and they need a few more like you. i applaud the CC Times for staying abreast on this issue.

my understanding is that the mega-conservation groups such as the EDF and Nature Consevancy take millions from corporations and have very, very, highly paid execs. they come out in favor of some extremely questionable projects because they'll be taken care of on the back end: f-u-n-d-i-n-g. the sierra club is adamantly opposed to this bill, as are all of the real grass roots groups. the Nature Conservancy has done some good things in calif and across the country but they're astro-turfing this time. the end result of this plan will be unchecked, limitless, water diversions to socal.
