"And if you grew weary of hearing Anderson Cooper or Martin Bashir yammer on about the accusations of child molestation and bizarre behavior that marked Jackson's later years, you could switch over to MTV or BET and lose yourself in a warm wave of nostalgia via a music video marathon." Why? I wasn't a Jackson fan. So why should looking at him from what a Jackson fan considers to be a "nostalgic" perspective make me more appreciative of what mainstream media has to offer? My condolences to the Jackson family. And, I won't take the "he was only a singer" philosophy. But I have no need to learn more about the history of a person whom I never held interest in in the first place. Therefore, I turn off the TV and find other things to do. Ditto with newspaper articles.
