PITTSBURG CA, Oct. 18, 2009 : The Pitbull’s Club soccer team ended the BASA Adult First Division portion of the 2009 season with an 21-3 record and the league championship banner. BASA Pitbull’s posted a win over Huracan to win the title and finished division play with a victory.

“We knew this would be a tough game,” coach Dario Arredondo said. “They were fighting for second place while we had first cinched. We were hoping for a relaxed game but they put pressure on us all game long.”

Arredondo credited senior goalkeeper Juan Gonzales with several big saves in the opening half to keep Huracan  from scoring. The game was 2-0 at intermission.

Carlos Perez put the ball in net early in the second half off a penalty. “Mario Martinez finds ways to score,” said Arredondo. “He has a great sense of the field.” Daniel Perez controlled the pace of the game in the second half. Juan Gonzales took over goalkeeping responsibilities with 25 minutes to go and maintained the shutout making six saves.

“We switched the lineup around today giving different guys a chance to start,” Arredondo continued. “They were getting experience for next season but did a great job in the game.” He praised the play of Mario Martinez, Daniel Perez, Carlos Perez, Edgar Velez, Abraham Calderon, Sergio Alvarez and Jorge Basulto. “It was like a preview of next season.”

Arredondo commended the play of Daniel Perez. “This is a team that had a goal of winning the league championship and accomplished it not by individual effort but by playing as a team. They worked together and cheered for each other. It’s been a fun year as a coach. The goal of Bay Area Soccer Academy is to provide individualized training to give players and teams the skills, confidence and composure to be successful on the field. Soccer is a game of fundamentals. Whether the student is a field player or goalkeeper all players need to possess ball control, vision and must be able to execute play with speed.  The player having confidence in their skills and composure over the ball will maximize their enjoyment of the game.” Arredondo said.

Team, along with players families, participating teams coaches, sponsors, and league officials celebrated at El Matador Restaurant.
