The best place to see a movie in the area is at the Dome in Pleasant Hill, imo of course. Roomy, relaxing and almost everyone there is there to see the movie, not to text, talk or visit. Saw 'The Reader' last week. Enjoyed it, but not as much as other recent movies.

Meant to post this on General tab, but accidently posted to Lafayette.

I haven't been there in years, but it was a great place to watch movies back in the day. I'm glad they didn't tear it down. I'll have to get back out there sometime soon to check it out.

I agree, the P.H. dome is still great, but the other one we really like in the Orinda Theatre for the same reasons.  Less crowds so you can sit anywhere, less background noise, easy parking.  The concessions are not as fancy, but unless they changed their policy recently, the Orinda Theatre will even let you bring in hot dogs from the Kasper's next door!

I once worked at the Orinda Theatre about 30 or so years ago. Saw Spy Who Loved Me about 10 times. That is when I OD'd from theatre popcorn and couldn't do it for a long time. Now, I'm a sucker for theatre popcorn, but it must be buttered. It is a classic historic theatre. I haven't been back in years to that one either, but I'm sure it would kick in a lot of memories. The same guy Wilson owned the Orinda and Rheem Theatres.
