There are helmet laws for a reason . . . . if your kid refuses to wear one, then lock up their bike/skateboard/roller blades!! It's like wearing a seat belt - one little step for saftey can avert a lifetime of tradgedy
I live in the area where the accident happened. None of the Mexican kids wear helmets while riding their bikes or scooters. And are any of the parents around watching and supervising their children???? Uh-no.
Why would you say the kids are not legal?? I bet most of them were born here which makes them americans...at least some of those folks parents are attempting to work.. You know how many free loaders there are in the section 8 program and are on medi-Cal..
I resent that. I am a single working mother of 2 and I can't afford to pay $120 a week my work would charge me for medical insurance for my family, so I got on medi-cal. Doesn't make me a free loader.
Why is this news worthy? Sorry for the kid, but CCT, come on now, really? Are you writing this for the residents of Rossmoor? For the knitting circles?
And one other thing? don't we have ambulances? Why a helicopter. When I was that age, my parents would have taken me to the emergency room. That's it. He was in the fruit bowl neighborhood, and someone felt he needed to be taken out by helicopter? really?
perhaps it's a slow news day . . . there may be more to the story or it may have been more serious than we get to know if he was flown to the hospital.
A helicopter is used when a person has received a severe injury. If there is reason to suspect that a brain injury has occurred, time is of the essence. The article said that he was in and out of consciousness. These rides aren't cheap either, costing over $20,000.
The reson for the Helocopter is for a couple of reasons..One, is the severity of the injury..Two is time versus distance. Depending on trafic conditions sometimes it is wise to call the helocopter..being a child it is best to send them to Childrens hospital in Oakland. But most of the time it is a knee jerk reaction by the Fire Dept. to call for a Helocopter. Most of the time they can go safely by ground ambulance.
A couple of days ago I saw a woman in my neighborhood walking holding the hand of a small girl, possibly her daughter. Up ahead was a boy, maybe about 5 or 6 riding a bike. Something looked out of place and it took a moment to realize he wasn't wearing a helmet. They did appear to have a Central American resemblance.

When you are incarcerated you are not obligated to pay child support.

Actually it would make you a freeloader with a low paying job. Since someone else is paying for it, then you may have the label.

$20 for a helmet is a lot cheaper than surgery or funeral costs.

Why a helicopter, you ask.

I never wore a helmet growing up...does that mean I'm Mexican?? That would explain my frequent visits to the Taco truck!!

Neither did I. Even though the law applies to kids I wear one. It can't hurt.
