So what do you think did you read his comments in the Oakley Press, is it sour grapes or does he have a valid point? In my opinion is seems like as far as the city goverment and things being done around town are in control of a select few, who are doing what they want despite what residents think or want. Oakley has been a city for 10 years now in that time I have not seen any work done on East Cypress between Main and Sellers (except for the new section by the new houses that the developer did). The county would come out ever couple of years and chip seal the road, and would spray for weeds twice a year along the roadway edge. The City has done none of this, the weeds growing along the side of the road are an fire waiting to happen, or a flooded roadway because they have done nothing to maintain the drainage ditches. With the exception of a couple of main roadways everything else has been ignored. Laurel road near the intesection of Melowood is falling apart more and more everyday to the point that is soon going to be a hazard.

Some members of the city council seem more interested in fluff and parties and looking good as opposed to providing services for the community. Ask yourself what is more important a sponsoring a fishing derby or city services, a party complete with fireworks for a 10 year aniversary or city services? They are spening our tax dolars on fluff and not providing services or maintenance.

One of the big pushes when incorporation came up was local control, of the police services and fire, well it has been 10 years and Oakley has neither. "Our" police department is run by the sheriff's office they do an overall good job, but each and everyone of the sworn officers answers to the Sheriff not the city. We have no say in the fire department whatsoever. Oakley is as large or larger than Brentwood, and we only have one fire station, making it a long haul to most parts of town. It is time the council wakes up, fix what needs to be fixed, stop patting yourselves on the back, you haven't done anything, no new business to support your perceived vision of Oakley. Some roads are in need of repair, you have more than one area of town that is quickly becoming over run with weeds, but hey thats ok we need to get control over the signs that business put up.

I have known Brad Nix personally, though somewhat peripherally, for nine years. I was a supporter of his candidacies for many years as we had, at that time, a common vision for Oakley. Unfortunately, our visions diverged at some point and I feel that Brad became an active proponent for the urbanization of Oakley that I actively disapprove of.

Having provided perspective, Brad is a bright and articulate individual and presents his thoughts in a logical manner formed by his legal training and years of experience as a Deputy District Attorney for Stanislaus County. He is airing issues and points that in fact should see the light of day, but is presenting them in a manner so as to cast an aura of corruption and malfeasance on those who were his political opponents on the City Council. So, in answer to your specific question, I would say the the answer is both. Sour grapes are being cast at the current City Council, but they are built on the seeds of real issues and problems that need to be brought to the public attention and need to be addressed by the community as a whole. The City Council is our representation to local government and we must remain aware of what is happening and we must ensure that our desires are known.
