...has no personality. It's funny, but we seem to have a nice set of players, but when I watch them play in Braun's scheme, I never get the sense the scheme made for success. In other words, I'm bored when I watch Cal play. I think we need a change in coaching, maybe just so we get some excitement back. Also, what was with the pro-Arizona announcing crew on Fox??

oh look,..... Cal mens' basketball in free-fall just like the football team. With the personel Cal has, they should be blowing teams away! Why can't Cal play defense? Huh? Why? What is it? Is it the coaching? WHAT, WHAT?! will someone please tell me what's wrong with this team? Is it me, or is Hardin over-rated? That dude should be getting double-doubles every FREAKING game! What is it with that guy?.....oh well ,

I wish I could say that Ben Braun is a good coach and we should keep him.  But Cal Men's basketball has been below average and not very good for way too long.  This year we have some great players, but we lose games we should win.  That's on the coach.

The success of most of Cal's sports programs tells us that Cal has the potential to be great in every sport.  The limitation in men's basketball unfortunately is Ben Braun.  It's been time for Ben to go for sometime; this year should be proof positive that Ben has to go after another increasingly disappointing season.

The reason Ben Braun has to go is because Cal deserves better and not because "Cal Always Loses" (orosd1 loser.)  Learn how to be a real fan.

You can always spot somebody who *didn't* graduate from the University of California, can't you?

Hey jerkoff, don't you just hate it when you try to act all clever and whatnot, & you end up looking like a retard? Right now, bet you don't even realize *why* you look like one.

LOL! if you take it personal, well then, fedupbear, you have some issues. but it was very humorous reading your reply. oh.... and if your so fed-up, go voice your opinion to Ben Braun.

p.s. if you read your post again.......closely, you will see what everyone else sees.......................you in fact are the retard, but *didn't *realize it.

You may have not gotten it, but fedupbear was making fun of your inability to spell, implying that if you spell "loses" as "looses," then you are obviously not intelligent enough to have attended Cal. But I don't think we should be making fun of people who can't spell. Cal is the people's university, not some private elitist institution like Stanford or USC. I encourage those who attended non-Pac-10 universities or no university at all to root for Cal's sports teams.

I'm new here so cut me a little slack. I've read the comments and I agree with many that Braun needs to step it up or out. I remember talking to him last year and he's a very personable guy and he runs a clean program. HOWEVER, we should expect more in the win column. Many of Cal's sports programs are on the rise but not basketball. I for one hope Sandy brings in a new face next year.

What is up with Hardin? With a body like that and "enormous potential" he consistantly gets out played. He should be posting double doubles every game. Does anybody have an insight to this.

i've read hardin quotes where he's said that his heart hasn't been into some games, which is quite amazing considering he has millions of dollars riding on his performance this year. he's also run into foul trouble a lot b/c of his undisciplined defensive aggression.

he may be a 1st round pick in this year's draft, but i think he's just overrated. ppl love his athleticism and size, but he doesn't use those things to his advantage. i attribute much of that to coaching. experts still say he's "raw" on offense, but after 4 years of college basketball, i doubt he's gonna suddenly develop a reliable post game. it doesn't seem like the cal offense looks to feed him much down low either. it also appears that he has a tough time establishing post position against guys smaller than him. on defense, his mentality is to block everything in sight. he has no sense of timing a block or just moving his feet to try to alter a shot as opposed to putting it in the 20th row.

basically, to use the old sports cliche, "he is what he is." he's never been a consistent producer, so its probably the nba draft hype that's raised our expectations, not necessarily his production on the court.

Thanks for the feedback. When I lived in Fresno, I could watch a few games. Now that I'm down in San Diego, I just read what I can find. For instance, the Chron today mentioned that Hardin was 17 of 26 from the floor in the past four games. That's an average of a little more than 6 shots pergame / 3 per half. Not a bad percentage but way too few shots. It's hard to believe he's getting double teamed every time he touches the ball. Maybe coach Braun should be developing his players better. Maybe he doesn't know how to. Maybe Sandy should be looking for a new head coach. Same old - same old isn't getting it done. Maybe it's time for "theaxe"

Hey well Cal beat #9 WSU at Pullman tonight...without Hardin.

To be fair, the Bears have for the most part played teams close...just not close enough. Perhaps this is the turning point. Beating a top 10 at home takes more then just luck.

The trick it seems will be if they can turn it around. If Can can sweep the WA schools, they're back in the middle since I'm guessing WSU will stand taller against Stanfurd.

Don't really know why I'm responding to you, MORON, since your education likely limits your ability to understand this BUT I'll make an attempt to sufficiently dumb it down for you...

The word "looses" is incorrect, [bleep]. What you PROBABLY meant to say was "loses" & had you gone to the University of California, you would have recognized that. In fact, had you gone to Modesto Junior College you would have recognized that. You are displaying your stupidity & you have nothing worthwhile to contribute, so the world doesn't need to read your trash. Period!

As to my use of the term "whatnot". The word is obviously beyond *your* 6th grade education but, "DUDE", let me enlighten you. From http://www.thefreedictionary.com/whatnot...

what·not (hwtnt, hwt-, wt-, wt-)
n.
1. A minor or unspecified object or article.

The more you type, or (more likely) the more your crack[bleep] mama types for you in between johns and sucking on her glass pipe, the more ignorance you display. JUST GO AWAY, [bleep] bag. And, Yes "LOL" that IS my opinion and if you DON'T take it personal, well then, ORSOD1, you have some issues.

Hey FootUpButt,

Since you obviously have nothing positive or constructive to contribute to these message boards, why don't you just crawl back into your hole and give the rest of us a much needed break?

Fed Up - while I accept your right to post, please turn down the vitriol. Defend your positions if you must but name calling should be left behind. If you truly are a Bear fan, then find something constructive to say.

The wins in Washington were important. Not only did they vault us back into the middle of the conference race but they gave us some hope for the remainder of the season. I for one am happy the success was accomplished without Hardin. Perhaps this will serve as a wake up call to him. The team doesn't need him to win the big ones. Boykin's emotion and energy stimulated the rest of the team. Braun should sit Hardin this weekend and keep the same line-up. Maybe Hardin will play harder off the bench if he sees his draft position sliding!

it seems like the fire braun sentiments come up every year on this forum. the sad thing is, no one cares about the state of the basketball program.

just five years ago, i think braun was a middle of the pack type of coach in the pac-10. now, w/ the additions of howland, floyd, romar, bennett, and sendek, its pretty clear that braun is one of the worst coaches in the conference.

his teams rarely have an identity. although known as a defensive coach, our defense stinks. he has no offensive creativity, but that's being masked a bit this year b/c cal actually has offensive talent. the one time that cal faced an elite defense and needed to rely on coaching/schemes to overcome that (i.e. against ucla), the offense was really stagnant.

he's a class guy, so i guess he gets the benefit of the doubt from the administration. but i wonder how many 8th or 9th place finishes we'll have to endure before a coaching change.

Nice story on Anderson. I understand he also passes well out of the post. There may be more chemistry with Boykin, AND the other players may be more willing to step it up without Hardin to lean on. Just a thought and maybe worth exploring for Ben as tournament time draws near.

I fear Hardin may be playing down to his opponent's level which may affect those around him. That may affevt recruiting adversely. Time will tell.

BTW - thanks for your welcome. Adios from the land of sunshine, palm trees and guacamole.
