OAKLEY -- Two men were shot in Oakley this evening in a drive-by shooting, police said.
Reported at about 8:15 p.m., the incident occurred at O'Hara and Las Dunas avenues, said Oakley Police Chief Chris Thorsen.
One of the men was airlifted to a hospital; Thorsen didn't have information about the status of the other victim. The condition of both victims was unknown.
Details about the shooter or the vehicle involved also were unavailable at presstime.
I can't believe the Times doesn't know this is a homicide. The police declared one of the victim dead within minutes of the call. It came out as a shooting at a known problem house. An officer gets near the address and is waiting for another officers when he hears more shots and more people call 911 to report a shooting. When the officers move in there is a victim with a chest wound and a victim with a leg wound. I assume the chest wound is the decreased. They didn't broadcast much information after that besides the suspect was wearing a white shirt and driving a black truck. Someone's (either a suspect or victim) name is Brian.
I heard the call also, and I could have sworn that I heard OPD calling a Homicide Protocol, basically who is notified (Brass and Crimelab, Detectives ect.). Most agencies have something like this for different events that can occur. Acording to my sources in OPD no one is dead (yet). The police cannot pronouce anyone dead, I do not know what the protocol for that is in Contra Costa, but I beleive that I was once told that deputies even in a Sheriff / Coroner's office have to be assinged to the Coroners division.
well oakley you know it was only a matter of time before it hit your town i wish my city Antioch would of fought harder with the housing authority to spread low income housing and sec 8 evenly thru the county before antioch became a dumping ground.
Thank goodness two more have been taken off our streets! From what the article said, they carried & shot w/a SEMI AUTOMATIC weapon and were both 19 years of age.
I don't remember seeing that anyone was caught in the shooting or has been charged with the shooting. Same old story in that part of town, and anyone who thinks this is new to Oakley is either naive or has no concept of what goes on in Oakley and has for years. Would you feel better if they had carried a relvover, get real folks it's the person who carries the gun not the gun, I carried one evey day for nearly 15 years and it never did anything wrong.
I think she mixed up the story on the two that were picked up after tossing a semi automatic out the window(which I think they were arrested in brentwood) and the shooting on ohara.
You are right its the same story for that area. Ever since I've lived here (not as long as you) when ever there are shootings or violence I think most the time its in the ohara area. I think its a shame really, but it is what it is.
The times posted a story about 2 guys that were arrested in Brentwood and threw a semi automatic out of the window.
And...what is your point about the guns and would I feel better if they carried a revolver? A Semi Automatic in the wrong hands (street thug) is a pretty scary to me at least...THAT is the point that I was making...so you get real. Obviously, I know it is the person and not the gun. I'm not anti-gun, so please let's not turn it into that.

BRENTWOOD - Two suspected Oakley gang members were arrested after a short low-speed car chase in which the passenger threw out a loaded handgun, police said.
A Brentwood police officer attempted to stop the suspects' car at Fairview and San Jose avenues for erratic driving, around 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sgt. Mark Misquez said.
After failing to yield, the pair of suspects led officers on a brief pursuit, throwing a loaded semi-automatic Smith & Wesson handgun out the passenger side window at Fairview Avenue and Central Boulevard. The pair eventually stopped at a Brentwood Safeway store, Balfour Road and Fairview Avenue, Misquez said.
Police arrested Derek Zepeda, 18, and Ray Daughters, 19, on suspicion of being gang members in possession of a loaded firearm. Daughters, the driver, was also arrested on suspicion of evading arrest.
Both men were booked into Contra Costa County jail.
Iloveoakley, I think there was a little confusion regarding your reply and what you were replying to. I just re-read the last group of threads and relized what happened. P5 was in the ohara drive by shooting mode, and you were posting about the 19 yr olds who were arrested after tossing a gun.
I agree with you in two less thugs on our streets, and I'm sure p5 feels the same.
Really quite simple what does an arrest in Brentwood have to do with a shooting in Oakley? I am not turning it into a anti-gun issue, but when you capitalize "SEMI-ATUOMATIC" it sure makes it seem like in your view it is a bad thing.
And yes 2 more gang members off the street temporarily is a very good thing.
Oh, sorry for the CAPS. I didn't realize that putting that word (gun) in all caps would imply that I'm some "no one should ever be allowed to carry a gun" type of person. The caps meant, a THUG driving around in our community was carrying a SEMI AUTOMATIC GUN. Most people would agree that those two together are a recipe for disaster.
My kids went to school with these two boys and I can say for one of them, he was a very good athlete, and had parents that really cared and were very involved with him. They were at every single baseball game and every single football game when he was growing up. I know he had been getting into trouble the last 4 or 5 years. I shake my head and wonder what went wrong.......
Two words..."Gang Members." Too bad this is the path they have chosen for themselves. Shake your head if you wish, just don't close your eyes or turn your back for your own safety. You never know anymore who they might turn on. It hits close to home knowing these teen-agers are running from Oakley P.D. with a loaded weapon. As a registered gun owner myself, I don't have a permit to carry a concealed weapon or trust me I would. I highly doubt the gun they carried was legal or why throw it out the window? That just tells me they know right and wrong. It makes me wonder what they were up to. I feel for the parents and the innocent victims. No sympathy for the GM. Someday maybe they will realize we are all the sum of the choices we make. What a waste. They should be ashamed of them selves. The Oakley P.D. on the other hand should be proud and I for one thank them for a job well done.
