It sucks that the other driver was a coward and ran from the scene, but the kid would have lived if he was wearing a seatbelt. You can't have someone make a bad decision like that, and then completely blame the death on the other driver.

whom ever posted that comment on the contra costa times is not a parent whom has lost a child.  You have no idea what it is like to loose a child and I hope you never do because you will eat those words. Seat belt or not seat belt he was Susan Child and nothing will bring him back. that pain is forever and the person that ran and didnt stand up is a coward. Bottom line. I have lost a child and no mother or father should have to go through this !

To gryff - First of all.....I am his mother...this is my only child, and the people that caused the accident got out to help and left when they saw Art in the truck and my son dying on the ground. Now where did it say in this article he did not have a seatbelt on? Do you know more than you are saying? Second.....my son did have his seatbelt on. If you like I can send you a copy of the Autopsy Report showing he did. Also, by chance, a doctor was behind him and she told me that was the first thing she looked for and saw the the markings of the seatbelt on him. Have a little compassion. Thanks!
