I called the Oakley PD to do a welfare check on an individual in Oakley. Received a call back from an Officer of Oakley PD who was very belligerant, guess I interrupted his coffee break at the local pub. He demanded to know why I wanted a welfare check. I became a bit irate as this is the job they are getting paid for. He told me if I did not lower my voice, he would hang up and let me drive 140 miles one way to check situation out myself. To my dismay he became more belligerant and I hung up on him. What exactly is their civic duty and do we pay tax dollars to be yelled at by an officer?????

Oakley PD is not Oakley PD it is the Sheriff's dept, pretending to be a city police dept. and they don't care. There is no connection to the city or the residents. I have said for the last 10 years that if their pay check does not come from the city, why would you feel any obligation to provide more than a basic level of service. As to the welfare check that is a courtesy not something that has to be done, granted most places it is done without question, but in other it is either not done at all or there needs to be a very good reason why.

PD does not need a reason to go knock on someones door to see how they are doing, but it is a courtesy as P5RET said. If the PD wants to get inside they may need more information and that is why the Officer might have been trying to get more information. I agree though that if someone begins to yell at me I will hangup too. NOBODY gets paid enough to get yelled at...

call the chief to complain. I have called Antioch PD several times for a welfare check because I knew of young children being left alone til the early morning hours. I have never had any issues with anyone questioning my reasoning.

I grew up in oakley WHEN OHARA was the main st, but those opd are WOW.. there is one officer that is so rude its not funny its as if his job is to look for the non criminals and treat them as one, and if he dont like you he looks for you even more. He says that he is protecting his community from crimminals see to me a crimminal is a robber, drug dealer, women beater, child beater etc... not a person that is driving a vehicle they just purchased a week prior and had no licence plates but was registered with ins and had a lic. to drive. he has the vehicle towed for no lic plates but is registered hellooo? i just want to know who is protecting the real victums that are getting hurt?? AND ALL THE CHIEF WILL DO IS TELL HIM BUT ABOUT THE COMPLAINT BUT THERE WILL BE NO RECORD IS WRITTEN SO YOU GO HIGHER TO THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS..
