Too little. Cut payrolls by 30%, reduce union salaries by 20%. Then let's see where we are.

But the people that complain the most on these forums about the current salaries and pensions that the public safety/fire receive aren't in the least bit worried or concerned for the state of California.

If they were they'd be calling Sacramento to lend their expertise and TIME to assist in any way they could. Instead they are looking for scapegoats and because a couple idiotic articles attempt to place blame on a particular group they latch onto it like a life preserver and goose step in unison while singing the praises of the authors. That worked a while for the Nazis too, but we all know what happened to them and their blind faith followers.

In all actuality, the most vocal on here are jealous, plain and simple. The quiet ones are working on solving the problem, not ranting on ridiculous forums like this one where ZERO change is born. Jealousy, it's a very ugly trait.

The jealous are troublesome to others, but a torment to themselves.  ~William Penn

"The county estimates this contract will cut its annual payment for post-employment benefits by $28 million a year to $101 million a year."

Wow, talk about fuzzy math!

"In the most significant cost-saving component of the new contract, employees and the county will split evenly all health insurance premium cost increases." Yesterday, the big news was that the unions in Oakland agreed to compensation reductions, also.

Don't look now but, it looks like the Unions are going to drive us, California and, given a chance, the nation out of this depressing Recession. Unemployment is already 9.4 Percent and on its way to a, predicted, rate of 12 Percent.

The adjustments to "Recession Proof" Compensations will happen the rational way or the painful way. Simply put, we have priced ourselves out of the world market and the, soon to come, "Jobless Recovery" will turn the effects from Pres. Obama Stimulus Billions into a fading memory, even if he decided to make another one.

We priced ourselves out of the world market because, once more, we were, overly sure of our technical superiority. Ignoring that often technical leaders, and managers, have strange names, like Hussein, Chu, Gonzales, etc.

Also, too many became part of a Super Class of overpaid with "Recession-Proof" salaries that depend on taxes paid by those that pay taxes but, now, too many don't pay taxes, the Unemployed are now 9.5 Percent and may soon go over 12 Percent and there is no way the shriking number with jobs can provide for all those in the Super Class -impossible. Will the overly paid high education leaders, some of which teach Economics, Ethics, Philosophy and Morals be far behind?

Will their Economy Experts, one of them in the Obama Administration, decide they too, must do their share to reduce the burden on the shrinking number of SEAPT (Still Employed And Paying Taxes)? Will they wait to see if their resort in Tahiti is taken by our Governor and sold to pay their salaries, for a month or two? Stay tuned, I will.

But, the credit really belongs to the County Board of Supervisors and the County Leaders that did a fantastic job, together with ther Labor negotiators and reached a deal that augurs well for the future of Contra Costa County and the State and nation. The unnamed leadrs deserve all the credit, when you find out who they were, tell us, we need to keep them in office, unless they move up with their great ideas and skills. The higher they go, the better off all of us will be.

Still not heard from are the Deputy Sheriffs Asociation, and the various fire districts whose six figure salary and benefit packages, and 90% early retirements are the crux of the problem.
