Cptime responds to shays post - "Is McCain willing to start a war...." 8/13/08 1306 hrs.
One thing McCain does NOT have is any deficit of toughness. That would be B.O., the 'Empty Suit' you spend so much time covering .. Russia can and is squashing Georgia like a bug, civilians and all....yet you totalitarian lovers side with Russia? Read up on what has been going on in Russia prior to this. That is the our larger concern dearie. You all probably liked the Georgians better when Stalin was the growing up there.
Cptime, your rebuttal to "shays" is brilliant in it's deceit and simple-mindedness. No one sides with Russia in this dispute. Not sure how you jumped to that one?
McCain says "we are all Georgians" HE IS WRONG. I feel for the Georgians, we'll do what we can - but that's it. McCain's rhetoric is creepy.
Russia's strong man Putin reminds me of the old Kremlin rulers, just smoother and more educated. Same old battle plan though .... Russia vs. NATO.
Cptime, if you are going to do anything more than negotiate with the Russians over grievances, and possibly commit to some kind of armed conflict, YOU BETTER PICK YOUR BATTLES WISELY.
Russia is the only Country in the world that can kick our (bleep). And yes, we can kick their bleeping bleep too.
So now you are just oozing machismo and seem to say: let's go do something crazy for Georgia. Let me explain, we don't do something crazy with the Russians - over Georgia.
We only engage the Russians and "Cross the Rubicon" for the most EXTREME of circumstances.......like Russian ballistic missiles in Cuba in October 1962. Not over Georgia in 2008. I'm sure the Russians pay us the same respect.
I remember the "Missile's of October." I was going to DVC at the time. I remember ignorantly thinking, if I should go to class the next day, as the Russian naval fleet approached the American blockade. This wasn't just a soldiers fight this time, this was about a possible end to the civilized world. We all stood on the brink of the abyss. Americans were scared; I know I was.
So you can foolishly talk all the bravado you want for Georgia. We'll take on the Russians. Just remember there is a Russian ICBM pointed at you and your family and friends. It's loaded and it's only 30 minutes away. So once again I advise you: PICK YOUR BATTLES WITH THE RUSSIANS WISELY.
For the most part, and it might not appeal to you and your oversized huevos, we need to negotiate firmly with the Russians, not fight them, or God help us all.

this child needs a lesson of why he should not pretend to be informed or hold an opinion.
Why does an 18 year old who lives in his parent’s basement in Concord thinks he has the ability to understand or offer an opinion on foreign policy? An 18 year old who can not get into a decent school, can not hold a simple job, or even get a girlfriend.
No one sides with Russia in this dispute. Not sure how you jumped to that one?  Your stupidity is showing—your buds Shays and Honesty are Marxists, they side with Russia on everything. Read the Communist Manifesto and understand the world domination objectives of your buddies, and you boy BO.
McCain says "we are all Georgians" HE IS WRONG. I feel for the Georgians, we'll do what we can - but that's it. McCain's rhetoric is creepy. Cowardice is the core and substance of your being. McCain is very correct in saying that we are all Georgians, meaning that the defense of any Democracy is the defense of all Democracy.  Georgia is our ally, and it is essential that we defend our allies. To not do so is to not be honerable, but you are too young and niave to get that I am sure. Honor means nothing to you, just like America means nothing to you.
Russia's strong man Putin reminds me of the old Kremlin rulers, just smoother and more educated.  Considering Putin’s background as a KGB leader, I think you again do not understand that Putin is far worse then most USSR leaders. He is probably on a poar with Stalin, and it is very likely he has committed more atrocities then Stalin. My guess is that you education is so lacking, you do not know what atrocities Stalin committed.
Cptime, if you are going to do anything more than negotiate with the Russians over grievances, and possibly commit to some kind of armed conflict, YOU BETTER PICK YOUR BATTLES WISELY.  Again, you have no concept of global politics, or the concept that NATO’s purpose. Or the very real danger Russia presents to the US and any Democracy.
Russia is the only Country in the world that can kick our (bleep). And yes, we can kick their bleeping bleep too. The game is called mutually assured destruction, and the point is that no one would survive. Nobody starts the game, unless they know that they can survive. Starting something with Russia does not mean a nuclear exchange; but clearly more the “negotiations”.Â
We only engage the Russians and "Cross the Rubicon" for the most EXTREME of circumstances.......like Russian ballistic missiles in Cuba in October 1962. Not over Georgia in 2008. I'm sure the Russians pay us the same respect. What is the difference between Cuba and Russia, and why would our nation abandon an ally? Unless we were a nation of pantywaists, ( term you are probably not familiar with),  we do not abandon allies.
. I'm sure the Russians pay us the same respect. Proof that you are an idiot.
I remember the "Missile's of October." I was going to DVC at the time. Your profile says that you are 18, and my research behind your profile confirms that you are 18—so how were you attending DVC during the “Missles of October”.  If you were 18 during the 60’s you would have been in the military due to the draft. You remember nothing loser.
we need to negotiate firmly with the Russians, not fight them, or God help us all. Afghanistan negotiated with the Russians, what was the result? Hungary negotiated with the Russians to what result?  Russians, like the Iranians don’t negotiate, they play for time to increase their readiness. Only losers like you negotiate.

Ronald Reagan negotiated with the Soviets. Obviously Claybrain considers him a loser as well. Â Â

Clayton must be a miserable old recluse like Ohso. She is contrary with just about everything posted to this board. Even moderate political positions.
She has a big vocabulary, that suggest some kind of intelligence. But, she has a pathological hatred of Obama, which is way beyond comprehension. I wish she would enlighten us with an answer to what drives that all hatred.Â
Can't be just the issues. She's too driven in her agenda. Even if Obama is elected..... he still has to work with a Congress ,Supreme court and a Constitution. What's she afraid of?Â
Yeah, she knows a lot of fancy words, but she doesn't know how to use them very wisely.  I don't think she is stupid per se, but then again, I don't understand why she acts so stupid.Â
Maybe we should feel sorry for her and her inexplicable dilemma. I suggest the board get together and send her a "Get Well" card.  Yeah a Hallmark card, that would be nice. Â

Are you far sighted? Is that why you print so big? If so, I would like to remind you, for your own edification ....... that it is only one of your many defects.
Professor, you seem to be sorely lacking in your understanding of history. Unlike your lies and exaggerations concerning Obama, you can't rewrite history, it's already been written.
The cold war is nearly 60 years old now. It never ended. It warmed up and defrosted, but that's all. Russian bombers still patrol our coast and shadow our fleet. They are, and always have been an adversary of NATO and the West. So don't expect us and the Russians to go out for pizza and beer any time soon.
The Russians and the U.S. both get what they can out the relationship. Russia has been prepared for war with NATO for 60 years, so if you think that NATO is just going to march up to their frontier through Georgia without a fuss, then you're pretty naĂŻve.
There are really only two instances of the of the U.S. standing eyeball to eyeball with the Russians during those 60 years. The US put it all on the line during the Berlin Airlift, and during the Cuban missile crises of 1962.
I don't know where your ignorance begins or ends, so I will tell you, that the Russians were installing ICBM's in Cuba aimed at the U.S. Those missiles could strike the South and the Eastern Seaboard within a matter of minutes ..... no time for the US to react to an attack. They were considered to have a "first strike capability" So the US said to the Russians ..... dismantle those missiles - or it's WAR.
Other than those instances, we fought the Russians or the Soviet Union (which ever you prefer) through third country proxies: Korean war, Vietnam war, Angola, Cuba, Afghanistan and others. Never direct contact with armed forces. The risk of escalation is too great .... the Russians realized this, and so do we.
They know how much mischief they can get into without consequences. I sorry to say this, but Georgia is in their sphere of influence just like it's been for the past 60 years.
I'm willing to go to war for our Georgia - but not theirs. Twenty -five years ago those Georgian guns were pointed at us, not the Russians. Now we are all buddies.
You may be willing to risk it all, shooting at Russians over Georgia, but I'm not. Going to war with the Russians could escalate to the holocaust times 1000. Are you willing to risk it all, Ms. "Pantywaist"
As I said before: we firmly negotiate with the Russians. We cooperate with them, or don't cooperate with them. We try to isolate them, within the world community. We try to make life difficult for them, but we don't fight them .... because if we do, you will have to give up that big house of yours in Clayton.
