Downed tree on house, who do we call?

Our neighbor's dead tree has fallen on our house, but hasn't punched through (that we can see; it's a 2-story house, so we can't see the roof).  My husband is on the phone with the insurance company, but do we call anyone in the city?  Inspections?  FD?  It's starting to roll toward the neighbor's house, and may be down within another 20 minutes, in between the houses.

Your insurance company should handle it for you.

I would start with the FBI then the DEA, and don't forget to call the CIA and ATF. If all fails call the DMV and the White House.

Why is gods name would you post this question on a blog?

Well, gee . . . I don't know what to do, and trust the people in this fine city who might have a clue to direct me.  You ever heard of asking for advice?  You ever have a tree fall on your house?  I haven't.

Smokey, thanks.  DH has talked with the insurance folks.  Someone's coming out to cut the tree apart.  DH is on the freaking roof in this wind taking photos.  At lease one roof tile is down . . . not sure what other damage might be up there.

Get your husband off the roof. In this wind you don't need 2 calamities.

Exactly, Smokey . . . he's finished, so he's off the roof how.  But gah!

People like JoeCitizen usualy have very few if any friends and are jealous of people who do. The post should have been ignored in the first place since trolls are here for one goal only: to get a reaction from others.

maybe if you called one of the tree services in the area (like Bruce's or something).  They'd know if there's someone you'd have to call or if you even needed to call anyone besides your insurance.

even if the city planted the tree, they will tell you that your neighbor is responable for it, but, even if it is dead most likely the insurance company for your neighbor will claim it is "an act of god" . So you did about all you can do is call your insurance company, as jhd said, you'll have wood for your fireplace this winter and may keep your PGE bill down, unless it's on a spare the air day, than you may have to pay a fine.

good thing is, no one was hurt and you'll get more light in your yard!

Oh, and it's not a city-planted tree.  It was planted in the neighbor's back yard by the original owner about 15 years ago.  Hard to believe that thing was only about as tall as me (5' and a li'l bit) when he planted it.  They sold the house a few years later to our current neighbor.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!  The tree removal guys have been working on it since 1 p.m., and will probably still be out there for awhile from the looks of it.  The tree is a 30-40-foot pine that's been deader than a doornail and completely brown for at least two years now.

Still don't know the extent of the damage, but the tree guys say there will likely be more damage before they're finished.  Once the branches are off, there's really nothing to support the trunk.  The outer pane of one downstairs window is cracked from a branch bouncing off it already.

That we know of, one roof tile was dislodged and broken.  Nothing is protruding inside the house, but we haven't checked the cubby that passes for an attic just yet.  The tree also hit the chimney (siding, not brick or stone).  No upper windows were damaged.  I was upstairs on that side of the house when it hit.  Couldn't figure out what the commotion outside was until I watched the walls of our bedroom vibrating visibly, then I knew the tree had blown over in the wind.

All three of us were home when it happened at about 11 a.m.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

id assume its your neighbor's insurance who will pay for it.  It was their tree not yours.  I wouldnt have known what the heck to do either.  Luckily im in a new neighborhood, i shouldnt have to deal with big trees for another 10 years.
