Big question for the Friday night meeting between Foothill and California.....Can Sean Mannion put on another performance against the Grizzlies like he did against Monte Vista....And can California bounce back after the  loss to Amador.....Let's face it Amador is solid.

Foothill Vs.  California........Calif. 31.....Foothill 20......If Sean gets a hot hand...this game could turn into a shootout..

DLS. Vs. Livermore.....DLS 56..... Livermore 7.....The spartans can't be stopped..

Monte vista Vs. Granada.....MV 41   Granada 14....  Nottingham and crew make short work of granada

Amador Vs. San Ramon Valley.....Amador 39   SRV 14.....The Wolves have more then they can handle

If Cal can limit their TO's they beat Foothill fairly easily. Foothill's D is no match for Cal's power running game.  Cal has been their own worst enemy at times.

Cal has had the lead at halftime of every game they have lost, they need to learn how to adjust at halftime. They should be undefeated, but they keep shooting themselves in the foot.I predict that this game will be a high scoring affair.

Cal 36 Foothill 31

10-29-09 Cal Fan......I watched the Calif./ Del Oro Game at the battle at the Capitol.....and Calif. was leading at the half and I think you are right...Calif. didn't adjust for the second half and Del Oro came roaring back...although Calif. made a come back in the game Del Oro gained command of the game and Calif. lost 28-21..

I believe Washington had a lead over Cal at halftime in the opener, before Cal came back to take the lead and the Huskies won in the final seconds. But yeah, they certainly need to learn how to adjust at halftime.

For both Cal and Foothill it does not get any easier after Friday.  Cal will play Monte Vista and DeLaSalle and Foothill gets DLS and Amador Valley.

I agree that turnovers will play a huge role in the game.  In Foothill's two losses they got a combined total of 1 turnover, while making many of their own.  In their wins, the turnover margin was even or in their favor.

Another key factor will be coaching.  I think if Foothill is close at halftime, Sweeney and Mannion lead them to victory in the second half.

I dont know if it applies to Cal- many times teams that lose halftime leads are not as well conditioned as their opponent.

Two more big games this week as DLS ivades Foothill and Calif. visits Monte Vista....Foothill has the job of containing Ward and putting pressure on the DLS QB...but with the Spartan OL/DL, Foothill will have to come out shooting in all four quarters.  Mannion will have to come up with one of his best games to top DLS......And do we have another shootout between Calif. and Monte Vista which is most likely on the schedule....Both teams have to win, so there is a lot at stake.

California Vs. Monte vista.....Calif. 37..Monte Vista 34.....The grizzlies have to play their best game if they want to win..

DLS Vs. Foothill......DLS 41...Foothill 20....the Spartans are on the move, but the Falcon's  could cause trouble if Mannion gets hot....

San Ramon Vs Granada.....SRV 38  Granada 19....The wolves get some unexpected action from Granada....

Livermore Vs. Amador....Amador 49...Livermore 7....AV cruises to another victory

001 and myself watched Calif. and Monte vista battle to a 24 /24 tie before the Mustangs went on a scoring spree that the Grizzlies couldn't stop....The Mustangs were aided by  a couple of pentalies that sure gave MV a just start.....Nottingham guided the Mustangs with his pinpoint passing and while he was sacked a couple of times, he either too two steps back and fired a pass or rolled out to his right....What a QB MV has in Nottingham......

It was nice to meet you Bluedog, as we happened to find ourselves seated next to each other. Cal pretty much controlled the first half, although a late drive engineered by Nottingham enabled the Mustangs to tie the score at 17 at the half. A questionable penalty for hitting Nottingham "out of bounds" on a 3rd down play as he tightroped along the Grizzly sidelines gave MV an extra 15 yards and allowed the drive to continue, as the Grizzlies had appeared to have stopped the drive and MV would have had to punt if not aided by that call.

The teams entered the 4th quarter tied at 24, but Nottingham and his receivers dominated the final frame, and the Mustang defense held the Grizzly offense in check. Another questionable non-call on a 3rd & long rollout where Nottingham appeared to be well over the line of scrimmage as he released the ball enabled MV to get the ball deep into Grizzly territory at 31-24, but credit goes to Nottingham as he continually found his receivers who made some outstanding catches. The game was much closer than the final score indicates, but MV dominated the 4th quarter and earned the victory. Cal would have made it closer if some calls had gone their way, but MV didn't turn the ball over and took full advantage of every opportunity they had. And credit the oft maligned MV run defense, as they stepped up and shut down the Cal running game when it counted.

2 good EBAL teams in a Friday night battle that was fun to see. For those who have not yet seen Nottingham play, he is the real deal.

Having now seen both Mannion and Nottingham in person- I'd give a slight nod to mannion as the more impressive overall QB.  Both are accurate and throw a nice ball.  Both have solid arms. Nottingham is more mobile.

I give Mannion the nod because he doesnt stare down his receivers like Nottingham does.  You can get away with that in HS but college that must be corrected or he will never get off the bench.

001......As soon as the playoff schedule is clear, maybe we can hookup and watch another ball game and this time i'll pick the winner....I though sure that Cal was going to pull it off Friday night, but they just lost the edge....Monte Vista just kept coming on and took commmand of the game. And what about YV stopping Concord....I had to work and missed the YG/Concord game...Pick wise, I wasn't too far off  on the score......

This week brings us the rivalry games. MV vs. SRV, AV vs. Foothill, Livermore vs. Granada, and Cal vs. DLS. The first 2 games are pretty much toss ups, with these spirited rivalry games anything can happen. On Paper it would seem MV and AV should breeze. SRV came on strong last season and knocked off MV twice in 3 weeks to end their season. Foothill looked good against DLS (I just watched it on Comcast this morning), and is always a threat with Mannion at the helm. Livermore upset Granada a couple of years ago, and without their QB, Granada is just not the same team that took down Foothill. And Livermore will be up for this game, but Granada still has enough weapons to take this one. DLS is beatable this year, but Cal will need to get some breaks to go their way. In their only 2 EBAL losses to MV and AV, Cal did not get any takeaways, and it killed them. They will need to get some breaks and have DLS make some uncharacteristic miscues to beat them, but Cal is certainly capable if they play like they did against Foothill and SRV.

"On Paper it would seem MV and AV should breeze".

Really 001 they should breeze? AV have put together a great season to this point, but it almost seems like your setting yourself up for an I told you so..... The Don's have not dominated any of the top 5 teams and as has been pointed out many many times on these boards could just as easily have 2 or 3 losses in league. The game is Foothill's Senior night at home and Sweeney always plays the Don's tough. He surprised everyone (including me), in coming up with a gameplan that held the Spartans close last week. I am not a Foothill fan, but I know they are missing their top receiver in Rowland, and a couple of others. I have no doubt this game will go down to the wire regardless of who wins. I'm sure Sweeney is positioning this as the game to define his teams season. Should be a great HS atmosphere at Foothill Friday night, I just wish they had better accomodations on the visitors side ;-)

The question is...can California beat DLS....It seems that this year has seen a let down in the second half in a couple of Cal's games and the second half is when DLS hits high gear...Last week, Ward ran for 179 yards and Houston passed for 144...Cal has to find a way to play two full halves or DLS will follow MV's act of last week and do a repeat performance on Calif.

Monte Vista Vs. San Ramon.....MV 44...SRV 24    Last year, SRV had more guns to play with, this year, they lost a lot....The Mustangs march on...

California Vs. DLS.....DLS 41...Calif. 24     The spartans prove to be too much for the Grizzlies

Granada Vs.Livermore.....Granada 20...Livermore 14    Granada despite the loss of their QB still have Atkinson on hand and that shold be enough...

Amador Valley Vs. Foothill.....AV 35...foothill 31.......This will be a wild game with lots of action
