I have got to say I am not a Federal Glover fan, but if it comes down to Federal and Erik, I will vote for Federal in the general election. Federal may have his faults (many) but Erik is a fraud, phony and is the most unsincere of all the candidates, at least with Federal we know what we got.
For the Primary I am voting for Gary Agopian....

Why do we need to know who you'd vote for? Why would anyone really care?

Why is it a foregone conclusion that it'll be between those two? I haven't seen any official poll results, just heresay polls. I think you should have included Gary Agopian's name as well as the other two in all fairness.

I you had bothered to take not of the heading of his post, Ira ASKED the question; "Who would YOU vote for?"
Yes, he made his position clear in his text, but the question is a legitimate one and, although the concept may be beyond you, his own views were put forth in order to stimulate a response. It seems that he did just that with you; it will be interesting to see if others respond to the question, or to his position...

If Gary Agopian were to get knocked out in round 1 and it came down to Feredal or Erik, and I never thought I'd say this but, I'd vote for Federal. After all we know where Federal stands, Erik's all over the place depending upon where the money's coming from.

I can't imagine ever voting for Federal Glover. In my opinion Federal may be beneficial for Pittsburg and Bay Point; however, I believe he has been terrible for Antioch and Oakley. A few people mention that they would pick the devil they know instead of the devil they don't know. Heck, in my opinion, there is no chance that Federal will do a good job. Maybe Nunn would do a good job. Just my opinion. Although it is not an option in this poll, I would certainly prefer the other candidates. ________________ Also, why is it that no one is mentioning Mary Rocha? I would have thought that she would have received a lot more ink. Andy

politicoqurl, you've got to be kidding me!!
Glover has totally failed Antioch, Oakley and Bethel Island; the largest population of District 5!
I don't know why this particular discussion board wants us to select between Glover and Nunn, since both of them and their supporters have been running smear campaigns which makes both of them unacceptable as candidates for Supervisor.
Clearly, Gary Agopian (who is running an above-board honest campaign) is the best candidate for Supervisor. All you have to do is watch the taped candidate forum put on by the League of Women Voters and moderated by CCTimes Political Editor Lisa Vorderbrueggen.
Glover's failures? Section 8 screening; not knowing where the new Dozier-Libby Medical High School is located (across the street from where the Supervisors were considering putting a State Prison!); he was no where to be seen when Antioch and Oakley lead the lobbying for $36 million in federal SAFETEA-LU funding for widening Hwy 4; total silence from Glover on bringing ferry service to Antioch; never showed up when he was appointed to the Delta Protection Commission; fought against Antioch's Measure K and Pittsburg's Measure P for each city's own Urban Limit Line; shall I go on?
In 7 years as Supervisor, Glover has shown up less that 5 times at Antioch City Council meetings. No wonder he is out-of-touch with Antioch, let alone Oakley and Bethel Island.

It amuses me that you believe that the world revolves around the Antioch City Council. What other supervisor visits his/her city councils on a regular basis? Why should Antioch get special treatment? Please tell the world how many times Supervisor Glover has met with the individual members of the Antioch City Council? How many times have YOU run into the supervisor at the multitude of civic events and you had a plenty of opportunities to express your opinions directly to him?
He fought against Measure K and P because he was protecting the Urban Limit Line to limit sprawl development which is eating up our oopen spaces, hillsides and some of the best agricultural land in the state. The traffic on Lone Tree Way, the crowded schools and the social problems Antioch is facing is a result of that uncontrolled growth approved by the Antioch Council.
I guess the supervisor's trips to Washinton DC to talk with congressional representatives had absolutely no impact on the federal dollars spent on Highway 4, eh? I suppose Pittsburg would have raised their home fees on their own by the urging of Antioch, Oakley and Brentwood representatives, right?
I'm surprised Antioch is even talking about a ferry considering the multi-million dollar debacle the last time they talked about a ferry.
He opened a new Housing Authority office in Antioch! Do you think that was no small feat? By the way, don't be surprised as more and more absentee landlords seek to minimize their losses they turn to Section 8. Their choice to turn to Sec. 8 is their choice, not the Housing Authority. He did vote to extend the criminal record check.
The prison issue is more complex than Antioch officials want to admit. The county jails do need expansion and the the state was dangling the possibility of giving the county the money to improve their facilities if the county would accept a re-entry facility. I don't know about you, but you don't just automatically throw away a chance for millions of dollars. A more thorough study is a sensible approach and THAT is what the supes approved. Yes, the Antioch site was a bad site but to object to it right there and then would open the door for all the supevisors to object to the sites in their districts and the study would not proceed. It was worth to allow the study to continue. Glover was confident the unsuitabiilty of the Antioch site would come out in the study and it did.
If you have no doubt who the best candidate is, watch this debate sponsored by the Contra Costa Council in March as suggested by another poster on this board. 4Antioch, you saw this debate and even you said Gloverl did good. http://www.ibabuzz.com/insidepolitics/2008/04/28/election-round-tables-a... It was the only debate where the candidates could respond to each other's accusations directly. Glover did more than good. I think he mopped up the floor with the other candidates. When asked about issues outside of Antioch, most of the other candidates just had to shrug their shoulders or verbally cover up their lack of knowledge. It is very clear to me who was the most knowledgeable about the county and district V issues and who had the solutions.

I pray that it won't come down to a choice between Federal and Erik. If it does, then I probably won't vote for either. They seem to both have their special interest groups and this is the only thing that matters to them. I want a candidate who wants the best for the community.
I personally think that Gary Agopian is the only decent candidate.

The only time the District V supervisor candidates even had anything approaching a debate -- in contrast to the numerous "round tables" -- was the one in front of the Contra Costa Council held in March. Check out: http://www.ibabuzz.com/insidepolitics/2008/04/28/election-round-tables-a... The candidates were able to respond to each other's accusations, it got quite lively. This should open a few eyes and settle the question of who is the best person for supervisor.

This is from a politician who you cannot say is a Glover toadie. Nix and Glover have disagreed on a number of issues but they still work together when it counts. It also answers all those people who keep asking what Glover has done for East County as if he hadn't done anything. Glover doesn't seek the limelight and prefers to work behind the scenes. That's how he convinced MTC commissioners to allot $20 million for eBART. When all is said and done, Oakley City Councilman came to this conclusion:
Experienced Glover gets results Published in the Brentwood Press, 05/30/2008 - 10:28 a.m. PDT
Editor:
This past Saturday, like a lot of folks, I received a mailbox full of political mail. One in particular caught my eye for its blatant attempt to claim credit for a lot of hard work that this candidate had nothing to do with.
Erik Nunn’s multi-page flyer claims on pages four and five that “Erik is part of a team that has fought for the widening of HWY 4 and other much needed East County traffic improvements.” He refers to the TransPlan Board.
What Mr. Nunn didn’t say was that he had nothing to do with any of those battles. Nor did he say that he has only very recently attended a few meetings and has done nothing at those. I know that, because since the fall of 1999, I’ve represented the city of Oakley, not only at TransPlan but also at the other local joint-power agencies where the vast majority of the work takes place to improve East County transportation issues.
Mr. Nunn not only never served on any of them; I haven’t seen him attend them as a member of the public. You would think he would have if he truly cared about transportation issues. What is particularly interesting is that none of the five Oakley councilmembers will endorse Mr. Nunn. Yet, don’t we know him best?
In contrast to Mr. Nunn’s false claims, Federal Glover was a member and worked beside me, Mayor Freitas, and representatives from the cities of Brentwood and Pittsburg from 1999 forward on the ECCRF&FA, TransPlan, Highway 4 Bypass Authority, EPAC (for eBART) and CCTA.
At MTC and CCTA, Supervisor Glover has continued to ably represent East Contra Costa County. Little known is that this past year, when eBART was suffering severe funding issues, Federal and Amy Worth led the fight at MTC to secure our funding, and when it was $40 million short, he and Amy got MTC and BART to agree to spend an additional $20 million each to allow eBART to go forward without using any money from our other projects.
It took many night meetings, many phone calls, and a lot of hard work. Credit belongs to the people that do the work. Federal is one of the prime people responsible for each of our recent transportation successes.
Note, I don’t agree with everything Federal does or says, but because he is the man he is, I can tell him and he listens. Overall, he has done a lot for East County and is continuing to work on many issues, like fire services, that will take years to resolve. So I’m opposed to stopping that work and starting over with someone new that doesn’t know the issues and has to learn on the job.
That’s why I’m endorsing Federal Glover for re-election to supervisor, District Five. I urge you to vote for him as well for the same reasons.

As far as Federal is concerned, the only question I have for him is "while the Section 8 problem was growing, was he unaware, or did he simply not care?". The section 8 employees were incompetent and unresponsive for years. I have no idea how they decided who got benefits and who didn't; however, it seems a lot of able-bodied people got in and deserving people did not get in. Talk to anybody that has had a problem Section 8 neighbor and ask them if the Section 8 employee was rude or if the Section 8 employee was polite and helpful. Or ask these people if the Section 8 employee returned their calls. Thank goodness for UCBN and the CAT team or Section 8 would be a lot worse.______________ Now, let me give the usual statement that I have no problem with the blind on section 8, I have no problem with war heroes that need Section 8, my problem is with the able-bodied lawbreaking section 8 recipents. Federal was supportive of the Section 8 recipents and employees. His one 'big' act was to knock one of his 'soldiers' salary from approximately $119K/year to $102K/year._____________________ In my opinion Federal has done a terrible job of representing Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley.___________ Andy

You are entitled to your opinion. As I am to mine. Glover was not supportive of those who abused the Section 8 program. At the time, many people were attacking the entire program. The supervisor was standing up for the 98 percent of tenants who were not abusing the system. Government is not a business and it cannot act as a business. Sometimes it may seem slow inefficient because of the procedures it must follow in order to be transparent and representative of ALL the people. He did place a Housing Authority office in Antioch. The Housing Authority had a series of workshops for tenants and landlords. A new director was hired. FYI: Brentwood is in District 3. Vote on June 3! May the best candidate win.
