Great CPD!! Now you want to try and stop these idiots!! You've allowed them to operate with total impunity in this city for years! I'd laugh if this wasn't so pathetic! I'm glad I moved from Concord so I don't have to risk my life anymore just trying to live my life. I now live in a neighboring city where our police department takes crime seriously.

ranti - While I'm inclined to agree that there needs to be a better message in our educational institutions that denounces the delusional, self-destructive pipe dream of chasing of rap video stardom that seems so pervasive in many lower middle class and working class neighborhoods, and that a Bachleor's degree is really the only true way to ensure you aren't flipping burgers for the rest of your life, I don't know that I would go as far as saying impoverished single mothers are wholly to blame.I'm sure they didn't expect the legal father to jump ship and leave them in a cycle of paycheck to paycheck poverty.
It goes without saying when they're 25 and younger they're without the wisdom or foresight to see beyond romanticism. Things are often decided on the basis of what's "cool" or "fun", not what's rational or practical.
Schools, and of course parents, are often to blame for perpetuating this cycle. If it were up to me, I'd be showing comedy stock photo slides of worn out trashy people in trashy homes and parroting "this is what happens when you don't go to college...no seriously", so they laugh about it, and remember.
Kids need to see that chasing pipe dreams of being an entertainer, or hustler, or crook, is a often a "mug's game", and that kids more capable and talented than them ended up in the slums, dead or in jail chasing those lives. Kids don't want to be lectured though,. There is a natural inclination to shut you out when you lecture. It's virtually by default. You need to win their hearts and minds through sarcasm and humor. Kids listen to people that aren't "trying too hard", but that speak matter of factly, with some cynicism.

I was driving down Monument (great part of town..bs...) and there was a car full of [bleep]s in front of me who decided to throw a brick through my front windshield. I got a license plate number and reported it to the local authorities. they went to the house and kept me in the back of the car....(these [bleep]s lived in a brand new home just down the street from Mohr Lane located ON monument)....i mean jeasus christ, i had my 2 year old daughter in the back seat, my best friend in the back seat, and my wife in the passenger side, where the brick had fell in her lap and cut her all up. I went to the police for SAFETY. was any action taken? NO, the best they advised me they could do is tow the car for finger prints. THAT WAS IT. no more said, no more done......if this is not instigating for more problems i dont know what is. If you let someone get away with this type of behavior they will do it again just to get a kick....i am sick and tired of all the BS that comes with the city of conocord. I MOVED OUT OF THERE. I moved to richmond where it sounds funny, but my neighborhood is more safe then where i stayed in concord... I just cant believe with 3 adults in the car, and a child, who all were witnesses, that nothing was done to these people. It is disgusting.

I feel for you friend, there is a lot of injustice out there. I was watching Judge Judy one day, and she said something that makes perfect sense. Even if the perp was not arrested, he takes the "ride."
The registered owner goes to the Police department for questioning. Like one question every hour. No one can identify the idiot that threw the brick for lack of evidence, but one or more of them spends a half a day at the P.D. - then later someone else has to pick them up.
Not the penalty they deserve, but a price to pay none the less.

It's a lost cause. The PD is neutered by the government.

Obviously these two Politicians want to get elected and not do the hard work of keeping us safe. The Police are out eating donoughts, giving out very efficiently parking tickets, and avoiding dealing with crime. While the Mayor's office thinks in new ways to tax us more. We need to allow law abidding citizens to carry concealed weapons to effectively deal with the [bleep]s since the Police will not. The Crime level in Concord is unacceptable, that's why Concord is a prefered place for child molesters, the police will not do anthing. Check www.meganslaw.ca.gov Also, why the Mayor does not take a hard stance against illegal immigration? This by itself would take care of a big part of the crime wave.
Open your eyes.

I Don't share realistic's view that illegal immigrants are to blame. You're saying illegal immigrants are responsible for the lions share of crime in Contra Costa County? That's an innaccurate assertion at best, and would like to see any corroborating evidence of this. Most of those guys are just hard workers sending money home. It doesn't excuse that they're illegal, and don't belong here, but they aren't typically violent offenders. Anecdotally, from my experience seeing it over time, it's just the lower income kids (US born of all nationalities) glorifying gangster rap culture that are out doing these crimes. White, Black, Asian, Hispanic etc. You could ship all the illegals home tommorow and the drop in crime would be negligible. The problem is the culture, that it's "cool" to ignore school, and be a thug is the problem. Kids growing up into that is the problem. Indifferent police don't help, but the culture needs to change.

I referred to Concord, But it could be Contra Costa too. Now, you are melting the statistics to make your point i guess. Here is how it goes. That Illegal Immigrants make big part of the crime in Contra Costa does not mean that they are as a group a corresponding percentage of the Illegal Immigrant population. So if 50% of crime is commited by illegal Immigrant does not mean that 50% of illegal immigrants are criminals. they are two separate statistic, one is for crimes commited the other one is a population count. Usually are mixed toguether to, like you did to falsely convey the meaning that the for example "50% of illegal immigrants are Criminals" which is not the case. But, most people do not analyze the arguments in detail, after all this is a blog, not a journal. It is true that children born out of all nationalities contribute to crime, but it is done out of an example of disrespect for the Law. what is the main example, illegal immigration, police corruption, city hall corruption etc. So, why not curtail all corruption so we show children that crime does not pay.

Really?
"The U.S. Justice Department estimated that 270,000 illegal immigrants served jail time nationally in 2003. Of those, 108,000 were in California. Some estimates show illegals now make up half of California's prison population, creating a massive criminal subculture that strains state budgets and creates a nightmare for local police forces."

This Task force seems to me like a lot of baloney. It appears than when the [bleep]s crimes get some lines in the newspaper, the CPD PR machine issues a news release. This news release is like a resume, and most of us has written a resume. this Press releases contain the key words like "TASK FORCE" "Targeting" Gang Members. Whatever, in other scenarios they could call it "OPERATION SCORPION" So we can feel secure that CPD or any other Police Agency is doing their Jobs. This Press releases are most likely the product of a PR company or put together at the donought shop where the Police gather for their daily training exercises.
As result of these people at work is that in the since the start of this blog at least a new drive by murder in a prominent area of concord had taken place.
The solution for the crime is to have people interested in fighting crime in office, not lip service on the form of news releases. We have a lot of talk, a lot of hat, but no show.
If the Police and the Mayor will not keep us safe, we should look at a different Mayor and a different police chief. if they don't want to act immediately, we should impeach them.
