No Frannie, it doesn't increase teen driver safety at all. In fact, the effect is negative to teen driver safety. This is called the law of unintended consequence, and no one is better at invoking this law than California policy makers. By making you all drive your own cars, we increase the risk of teen accidents by increasing the number of you on the road. The purpose of the law, is that if any of you are in a fatal or near fatal accident, you don't take out your friends, too. But of course, you may take out any number of people in the other car. So with this law, we increase the probability of you getting in an accident, but the liability to your insurance company has been limited. Fun, huh? At the expense of public safety, the insurance companies will be better off. Are you in good hands?

"Every penny UC San Diego sophomore Joseph Natividad earned slinging hash in the campus cafeteria last year has ended up in his gas tank,"
This guy is selling hash at UCSD, has it printed in the paper, and still gets away with it? This guy is my hero! Is it good hash? Does he require a medical card? I never saw him there when I went! Price Center? I'm checkin it out next time I go back to visit!

I thought it was just San Diego State that was having issues with drug dealers on campus.

"Sometimes my friends and I used to drive around campus and downtown Palo Alto when we were bored, just to see if anything was going on and maybe stop for ice cream if we felt like it," I guess I am getting old and grouchy but the loss of being able to aimlessly drive around doesn't break my heart.
Not all teen drivers are all dangerous or bad drivers. And not all teen accidents are fatal ones........but when friends get in the car there are studies that prove the the distraction factor goes way up. With one year of experience under your belt, you are less likely to pull newbie mistakes when the radio is blasting and your friends are screaming "look, there's Mikey and he has his arm around Andrea!!!".
