I was just poking around the Times' website and I didn't see anything about the shooting last night on Equestrian and Prewett Ranch. It happened around 8:30 or so. According to the scanner, 2 teenage suspects got away on foot. I didn't catch the victims age, be he was shot in the shoulder and taken to John Muir. Anybody else hear all the commotion? Too close for comfort for me.

Yes, my husband heard it on the scanner. I know they mentioned black male, DOB of 1988. Not sure if he was the victim or shooter. Lots of police in our neighborhood. Hope no one else was hurt last night. Our children didn't finish trick or treating too many ghetto people in Antioch!!

I just read about the person being stabbed in Oakley, but nothing about the shooting in Antioch. Is it no one wants to read about more problems in Antioch or are just getting use to it?? Maybe, CCTimes is tired of printing the problems in Antioch!

good ol yach town never fails we were headin out to take my grandson trick or treating and around 18th and A there were atleast 25 punks on bicycles cutting in and out of traffic yelling at cars they had boom boxes strapped to their bikes flashy decorated rims with some type of garbage, forgive me but i had a bad thought i told my wife i hope one of those little basta$#rds gets hit by a car. i know citizens arent supposed to be [bleep]ntes but if we were to fight back with out repercussion maybe some of these punks would mind their manners. one other gripe is that every where i go no matter where in antioch bums beg for change, smokes and anything that they can get for free drives me crazy, and those guys that sit at the hwy 4 on and off ramps, people dont give them money they gather enough money then go to cavallo to get their fix i will be at the light on the off ramp and its a fast light and because the unknowing good simaritan will stop and give change i have had to sit at the light twice on more than one occasion, look at the clothes of the guys there on the ramp they are clean and washed so u know they have a place to clean up and keep warm at night so next time u pass one of them yell out to them to get a freakin job. ok im done now gotta check the meat loaf.

Don't know where that comes from, never heard it before.  But you can put it away because it makes you sound like the people you write about.

I always thought you tried to make some sense.

All kids (elementary to high school)  refer to Antioch as Yoch town and A-town. It's on their Myspace pages. It's their new lingo.......lol

I've been in Antioch 40 plus years and never heard that.  My grandchildren don't use it and my own children don't use it.

"4",  do your kids and grandkids use that horrible slang?

yochtown has been used mostly by Bentweird and okeytown for a number of years. What's the big deal about slang? Slang has been used for generations. Cool it man!

Smokey, I'm not complaining about it.  I don't like it and would never call Pleasant Hill anything but that.   Just me, it's my age.  Some things that go on in this world frighten the h!!! out of me......and most of you too.

I know what you are saying. It's just you have to be able to laugh at some of the little things in order to not let the bigger issues get you down. Like I just heard about 29 shots coming from over by Sycamore.  edited to correct: the reports have the shots coming by Drake and G streets

Sometimes we all have to be reminded.  Then there goes the 29 shots thing.  If I had a scanner I'd drop dead the first call I got.

Seriously.............we heard the shots and my 12 year old asked, "what was that?"  To which I naively replied, "Fireworks"

None of my kids or grandkids had ever heard of Antioch referred to a "Yoch-town".

To them it sounds like a 'ghetto' term used by some of our newer residents. Frown

That's been around for probably 5-6 years now, before the hoodlums came to town.

However, it's getting more coming now that they are here because it gives the town a nice ghetto sound to it. IE - oaktown

Maybe,

Some of you dont care to know or have been living under a rock who knows. What Im saying some of you guys with your responses are a real trip. Yeah, I agree on a level, I myself dont like those G-blasters and the annoying weaving in & out of traffic. Seriously, I only care to hear my music that I listen to and not there stupid music.

Excuse me while I go OT for a sec:

This part is for Intended those who Dont know about Yoc Slang, etc or dont care to know.

The Yoc- Antioch A.K.A- Lil oakland

Pittsburg- P World

Oakley- Oaktown or OakyTown

Walnut Creek- Dub(W) Creek or Walnut Crack

Pleasant Hill - P Hill

Well,

Back to the subject at hand. Yeah I was at home when I saw the Po-Po coming in 5 or 6+ deep  up the hill. I live like 2 streets over the opposite direction and I was like yeah someone probably got shot or something big went down. I would never really in all my 16 years thought drug deals would be so close to home as well. I guess it does really goes to show things are changing around my neighborhood. I think these young bustaz are trying to find a quiet safe haven where they can act a fool.

We as a community need to stand & fight back because it is the only way you will find sleep and peace.Instead of waking up to gunfire and police chopper searching for thugs around where you live. If you dont fight back then your a coward because you didnt work yourself to the bone to live in a nice area. Its like for the people who bought the 800k houses aren't going to stand by and watch their neighborhood go to shart. Well all I can say is in the end I feel all of your guys pain & concern.

That is one of my pet peeves! What is the deal with the thugs cutting in and out of traffic like they are the only people on the road?

And they look so stupid with the flashy bicycle rims and ghetto blasters! geez.

ANTIOCH: POLICE SAY MAN WAS SHOT TWICE DURING DRUG DEAL ON HALLOWEEN

ANTIOCH (BCN)

A 22-year-old man was shot twice in Antioch while allegedly participating in a drug deal on Halloween, according to the Police Department.

At about 7:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Equestrian Way and Prewett Ranch Drive for a report of shots fired. When they arrived they found the victim.

Two men wearing dark clothing were seen running from the area after the shots were heard, according to police.

That free Halloween Night celebration at the Fairgrounds looked like quite an event.  I forgot about it until I was driving down 10th toward it and saw all the cars parked everywhere.  I turned down O street and it was lined with cars almost to Kelly's.

yea, the Halloween night fair looked like richmond night fair.  What was going on across the street from bases loaded on the 30th.  I saw at least 100 shady lookin kids outside and a bunch of cop cars.  What is this town coming to.

I saw all the cop cars up the street on the 30th with their lights flashing and was told something was going on at the Women's Club.

They rent for a lot of parties and weddings at the Womens club. It's too bad someone always shows up wanting to fight.

That's what I figured, a hall rental party that had a problem of some sort.  Seems like there's one in every bunch that has to blow it for everybody else.

luke i used yachtown as slang, to align that slang with the mentality of the unruly youngsters as i have heard them use that name many times before.

I had never heard it before.  I checked with several friends and one of my sons, only my 38year old son had heard it and said his friends do not use it.  So, I guess everyone is right, it is used by certain elements that have come to town in recent years.  I found out one prominent person in town uses it on his facebook page when speaking derogatory about Antioch.  That truly disappoints me and makes me think far less of him.  It is a good thing I don't go on facebook or I'd let him have it.

The whole thing was just a shock to me and at my age I have to be careful about things like that!   LOL

Some 35 years ago, when I was in High School we used to call Pleasanton, "P-Town," like in "Hey, there's a party in P-Town this weekend!"  I never considered whether I was insulting the town or not.  Either way, it looks like they turned out ok, after all, they got a BART station.

I've heard Yoch-town, Yoc-town, Yach-Town or other derivatives used before, not always in a derogatory way.  It kind of depends what the person is saying about the city whether it's good or bad.  Kind of like Frisco for San Francisco.  Nicknames don't have to be bad.  I look at it this way, at least it's not Milpitis.  Nobody bothers coming up with funny or embarrassing nicknames for Milpitis, because it's already built in.

Yes there are many nick names for many towns.  I grew up in the 40's and 50's.  Had I called San Francisco anything but that I would have had my face slapped or mouth washed out with soap.

Milpitis is a joke we have.  Things are going crazy one of will say "you want to go to Milpitis to the drive in and stay at that sleezy motel."   Straightens us out right away.  Couldn't tell you why.  We started that many years ago for no reason at all.  Guess I'm weird too.

I put out my decorations and stood ready with candy.  Just before the day turns dark is usually when parents walk around with small children in cute costumes.  Not this year.

It wasn't until DARK - that I finally heard voices and looked out to see a mob (12-15) teenagers with hoodies coming down the street shouting POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

I turned out my lights and turned on my alarm system.   I won't bother buying Halloween candy next year!

WOW!! I'm sorry to hear that! Antioch sure has changed and not for the better! It's sad that people who have lived here for awhile, have to feel so intimidated in everyday life activities!

We did not get any trick or treaters until after 7 pm.  Which suprised me, normally I am rushing home from work at 6 and have already missed some.  We were concerned about the older kids behavior,  but they were all extremely well mannered and polite.  It was awesome.
