California Legislature Approves Gay Day in Public Schools
Democrats send AB 2567 to Governor Schwarzenegger

Sacramento, California – Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), a leading California organization protecting parents’ rights and children’s innocence, condemns the passage of AB 2567, which will instruct all California public schools to “conduct suitable commemorative exercises” in support of the anti-religious, sexual-anarchy agenda of the late San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk.
Today, the California Assembly passed AB 2567 on a 43 to 26 vote, Democrats for, Republicans silently against. Earlier this week, AB 2567 passed the California State Senate on a 22-13 vote, Democrats for, Republicans against. AB 2567 now goes to Governor Schwarzenegger, whose position is unknown.

“If signed into law, AB 2567 will mean an official day commemorating homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality in California government schools,” said CCF President Randy Thomasson. “This will harm children as young as kindergarten.

Every May 22, AB 2567 will positively portray to children homosexual experimentation, homosexual ‘marriages,’ sex-change operations, and anything else that’s ‘in the closet.’ Governor Schwarzenegger should say no to this very inappropriate bill, which has nothing to do with academic excellence.”

AB 2567 comes on the heels of last year’s school sexual indoctrination laws. When fully implemented, SB 777 and AB 394 will teach children in California government schools to support homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality via instructional materials, programs and activities, and school “safety” guidelines. In addition, the California State School Board this year implemented SB 71, requiring public schools that provide sex education to promote unmarried sexual activity with no restraints other than mutual consent.

“AB 2567 will further motivate parents to remove their children from the immoral public school system,” said Thomasson. “We’re encouraging parents to visit RescueYourChild.org to learn how to save their children while they still can. With public schools becoming sexual indoctrination centers, homeschooling and church schools are no longer parental options, they’re parental imperatives.”

According to the State Senate floor analysis, “This bill requires the Governor to proclaim May 22 as Harvey Milk Day…The designation of a day of significance triggers statutory encouragement for public schools to observe and conduct commemorative exercises suitable to the day.”
The text of AB 2567 states that “On Harvey Milk Day, exercises remembering the life of Harvey Milk and recognizing his accomplishments as well as the contributions he made to this state” should be conducted; specifically, “all public schools and educational institutions are encouraged to observe...and…conduct suitable commemorative exercises.”

Under AB 2567, what will children in government schools be taught and how will children’s minds be “exercised?” The answer is whatever Harvey Milk believed or is said to have believed:

Study: Bullying May Cause Obese Children to Miss School

According to a new study by the Obesity Journal, obese elementary school students miss a few more days of school on average than average and under weight students.

The question is: Why? Most people would read the statistics behind this poll and automatically think that it would be due to heath problems. Perhaps these overweight children need to go to the doctors more and get sick more because of their unhealthy eating and health state, but although it is not confirmed, bullying may actually be why obese children miss the most days of school. With bullies constantly bothering over weight children by name calling and alienation, this makes obese children feel distressed and not even want to attend school, which is very sad.

"It's clear in all the literature that the more days of school you miss, it really sets you up for such negative outcomes: drugs and AIDS and (teen) pregnancy," said Andrew B. Geier, a doctoral candidate at the University of Pennsylvania.

"At this early age to show that already they're missing school, and missing school is such a major setup for big-time problems, that's something school policy people have to know," Geier said.

This study, which was done by the Universities of Pennsylvania and Temple, based the study on 1069 fourth and sixth grade students over one academic school year in a total of nine Philadelphia schools. Each school studied took attendance on a daily basis and had recorded the heights and weight of all their students and classified each student into a category or underweight, average, and overweight/obese, based on these records.

After one academic school year was complete, statistics showed that on average underweight children missed 7.5 days, normal weight students missed 10.1 days, over weight children missed 10.9 days, and obese children missed 12.2 school days on average. This higher absentee rate among heavier students proves that fat is the best predictor among absenteeism. This factor also will prove to be the reason why overweight children have lower grades than average weight children, which is because of being absent due to being overweight.

Link between childhood obesity and bullying

Overweight and obese children are more vulnerable to bullying behaviour - both as victims and perpetrators than healthy weight children, according to a new Canadian Population Health Initiative-funded study. The results of their study were published recently in Pediatrics, an American journal. Key findings include:

* Based on the sample in this study, about 1 in 7 Canadian children aged 11-16 years old is a victim of bullying;

* Overweight and obese pre-teen and teen boys and girls are more likely than healthy weight girls to be victimized by their peers. Obese girls, for example, are 90% more likely to be victims than healthy weight girls;

* Girls with higher weights are more likely to be victims of physical abuse;

* Overweight and obese pre-teen and teen boys are more likely to be the victims of both verbal abuse and relational abuse (i.e., being intentionally excluded) compared to boys of healthy weight;

* Among 15 and 16 year old boys and girls, there is a relationship between BMI (Body Mass Index) and the perpetration of bullying - overweight and obese teens in this age category are more likely to engage in bullying;

* Overweight and obese boys aged 15 and 16 years old are more likely to be bully-victims (i.e., both victims and perpetrators of bullying) than healthy weight boys of the same age.

A presidential medal based on a sex life

When President Obama today awards a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom to Harvey Milk, it may mark the first time in history that the nation's highest civilian award has been granted primarily on the basis of someone's sex life.

As the White House announcement explained, "Harvey Milk became the first openly gay elected official from a major city in the United States when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977." Yet Milk served in that office for less than a year, so that hardly qualifies him for the Medal of Freedom. Milk was also assassinated in November of 1978. But that cannot qualify him for this award, either -- San Francisco Mayor George Moscone was killed by the same assassin the same day, but he will receive no Medal of Freedom. At least lesbian Billie Jean King, who will also be honored by Obama, was a genuine tennis star.

But Milk is famous only for winning one election, being murdered -- and having sex with men. In his "gay rights" stump speech, Milk once said, "Like every other group, we must be judged by our leaders and by those who are themselves gay." What can we conclude about the homosexual movement in America based on the life of Harvey Milk? I recently decided to find out by reading "gay journalist" Randy Shilts' 1982 biography of Milk, "The Mayor of Castro Street."

According to Shilts, Milk's "first sexual experiences were in the standing room section of the Metropolitan Opera [in New York], a gathering place for homosexual men. ... Random groping led to brief trysts after the performances." Milk, "by his own account, was leading an active homosexual life by the age of 14."

He continued to engage in homosexual conduct while serving in the U. S. Navy. Shilts reports that Milk, who had his own apartment off base, would pick up hitchhiking sailors by offering them a bed to sleep in. "The guests often would not know that Milk's apartment had only one bed until they walked in the door."
Milk later exploited his time in the Navy during his political career -- by lying about it, claiming falsely that he had received a dishonorable discharge for his homosexuality. Milk "knew the story would make good copy," according to Shilts. "Maybe people will read it, feel sorry for me and then vote for me," Milk told one campaign manager.

The information Shilts provides about Milk's sexual partners is revealing about the nature of male homosexual life in America. Milk's first long-term lover, Joe, had his "introduction to gay life" when he performed sex acts upon men in a movie theatre for money -- at age 9.

Milk's next lover, Craig, had been arrested after having sex with a 40-year-old man -- when Craig was 14. He met Milk when he was 17 -- "[I]t would be to such boyish-looking men in their late teens and early 20s that Milk would be attracted for the rest of his life," Shilts reports.

Another lover, Jack, moved in with Milk when he was 16 and Milk was 33. Jack attempted suicide several times, and once when he physically attacked Milk,

"Harvey literally tied him up and threw him in a closet."

Milk showed a casual attitude toward the use of illegal recreational drugs as well as toward sex. Besides homosexuals, Milk had another key constituency -- "potheads," according to Shilts. One key supporter ran "a marijuana supermarket from his bustling apartment." Shilts reports that Milk arranged several jobs for his partner Jack L. -- including one manufacturing "poppers," an illegal street drug. When a doctor asked what he could do for gay people, Milk replied, "Write more prescriptions for Quaaludes."

Milk may even have faked a "hate crime" to advance his political ambitions. The windows of Milk's camera shop were "blown out by ... M-80 mega-firecrackers." Shilts says, "Years later friends hinted broadly that Harvey had more than a little foreknowledge that the explosions would happen. '... [T]he campaign was sort of going slow, and, well ...'"
Even homosexuals were divided about Milk during his lifetime. According to Shilts, "Lesbian leaders had long ago spread the word that Harvey was anti-woman, partially for his close alliances with drag queens, and few ever backed Harvey."

Shilts' book (like last year's film "Milk") makes it clear that Milk was a tireless campaigner who formed unique political alliances -- for example, between San Francisco's homosexuals and labor unions. And he had courage -- Milk actually anticipated that he would be assassinated.
But in the few months that Milk actually held elective office, "Harvey left little doubt that his term would be marked more by his unique brand of political theater than by the substantive tasks of the board," according to Shilts. And that "political theater" had mostly to do with advancing the homosexual movement -- in his "political will," Milk declared, "Almost everything that was done was done with an eye on the gay movement."

In other word, it was all about sex. Pro-homosexual activists will describe the issue as one of identity -- "who they are." But the real issue is one of behavior -- what they do. And what Harvey Milk (like other homosexual activists) wanted was not only the freedom to engage in homosexual sex, but the right to do so without ever being criticized. Milk told one audience that "it is madness to ... be ashamed of the sexual act, the act that conceived you. ..." Yet homosexual acts never conceived anyone, which is what separates them, undeniably, from heterosexual acts.

Since Harvey Milk died from an assassin's bullet, over a quarter million American men have died of AIDS, which they contracted because they had sex with other men. What's truly "madness" is that someone whose only claim to fame is that they promoted such deadly behavior should be honored with a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

This Friday would have been slain San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk’s 79th birthday, and California state senator Mark Leno has introduced legislation to mark the date with a state holiday. The bill doesn’t call for a furlough from work, but instead instructs the governor to proclaim a “Harvey Milk Day” and designates “that date as having special significance in the public schools and educational institutions” and encourages them to “conduct suitable commemorative exercises.” The legislation passed muster with the state senate in overwhelming fashion last week. Though only about one in five Californians polled supports the measure, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a similar bill last year, Leno is optimistic. “If there’s one thing Arnold Schwarzenegger understands, it’s box office,” Leno relates. “And Harvey Milk now has box office.”

Indeed he does—and critical acclaim, too. Earlier this year, Sean Penn won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Milk in the eponymous biopic. A quarter-century ago, the Harvey Fierstein–narrated The Times of Harvey Milk won an Oscar for best documentary film.

Milk makes a rather unremarkable subject for the silver screen. In his seven years in San Francisco, he made four bids for elective office, only emerging victorious in his last—a 1977 run for city supervisor. For his persistence, Milk jokingly referred to himself as the “gay Harold Stassen.” He served for less than a year. In naming the onetime camera-shop proprietor one of the 100 most important people of the twentieth century, Time conceded, “As a supervisor, Milk sponsored only two laws—predictably, one barring anti-gay discrimination, and, less so, a law forcing dog owners to clean pets’ messes from sidewalks.” Eleven months on the city council hardly seems the stuff of Hollywood legend. So Hollywood invented a legend.

Rather than the gentle, soft-spoken idealist portrayed by Sean Penn, the real Harvey Milk was a short-tempered demagogue who cynically invented stories of victimhood to advance his political career. During his successful run for city supervisor, for instance, Milk’s camera store was the object of a glass-shattering attack by low-grade explosives. Milk blamed singer Anita Bryant, the outspoken opponent of gay-friendly legislation. “Years later friends hinted broadly that Harvey had more than a little foreknowledge that the explosions would happen,” biographer Randy Shilts noted. One friend explained to Shilts: “You gotta realize the campaign was sort of going slow, and, well . . .”

The stunt would hardly have been the sole instance of Milk’s employing deceit to further his standing within the victimhood cult. In the upside-down world of San Francisco politics, Milk curried favor with voters by boasting that his homosexuality had resulted in a dishonorable discharge from the Navy in the dark ages before the sexual revolution. But far from the in-your-face, ponytailed “Mayor of Castro Street” of the 1970s, Chief Petty Officer Milk of the 1950s was a closeted homosexual whose discharge papers reflected four years of honorable service.

Milk was far more cavalier about the privacy of others than he was about his own. When Bill Sipple became a national hero for tackling gun-toting kook Sara Jane Moore before she could kill President Gerald Ford in 1975, Milk anonymously leaked news of the former Marine’s homosexuality to the media. “It’s too good an opportunity,” Milk reasoned. “For once we can show that gays do heroic things.” Just as Milk anticipated the “outing” tactics of ACT-Up and Queer Nation, his rhetoric, too, foreshadowed the hyperbole of AIDS activists of the following decade. Milk liberally tossed the “Nazi” label at opponents of various gay-rights proposals and even compared politically moderate homosexuals to Nazi collaborators. “We are not going to allow our rights to be taken away and then march with bowed heads into the gas chambers,” Milk proclaimed at 1978’s Gay Freedom Parade in San Francisco.

Such unflattering details made neither the final draft of the “Harvey Milk Day” legislation nor the final cut of the Milk biopic. Milk’s cheerleaders are guilty of sins of omission and commission. What the film and legislation insinuate—in an effort to depict Milk as a martyr for the gay rights movement on par with Martin Luther King’s martyrdom for the Civil Rights movement—is that homophobia killed Harvey Milk on November 27, 1978.

But Harvey Milk’s homosexuality played about as much of a role in his murder as San Francisco mayor George Moscone’s heterosexuality played in his. Their murderer, troubled political neophyte Dan White, had donated $100 to defeat the Briggs Initiative, which would have empowered school boards to fire teachers for homosexuality. White hired a homosexual as his campaign manager and voted as a city supervisor to fund a Pride Center for homosexuals. White wasn’t driven to murder by Milk’s vision of gay rights but rather by something more pedestrian: the petty politics of City Hall. What makes for good history doesn’t always lend itself to good theater.

In a sign of the instability he would so dramatically display on November 27, a cash-strapped White had resigned his seat on the Board of Supervisors on November 10, only to demand four days later that the mayor reappoint him. Mayor Moscone publicly responded by saying that he still regarded White as a member of the board, handed back his letter of resignation, and promised him the seat. Enter Harvey Milk, who saw White as an obstacle to progressive initiatives. As the movie depicts, Milk successfully lobbied Moscone to refuse to reseat the former policeman, fireman, and Vietnam veteran. Believing Milk and Moscone guilty of perfidy, the tightly wound, sore-loser White assassinated Moscone and then Milk.

Perhaps the most amazing historical detail of the murders of Harvey Milk and George Moscone is that their dramatic assassinations weren’t the biggest story to hit San Francisco in November of 1978. Bowdlerized from the Hollywood treatment is the role Harvey Milk played in the news story that eclipsed his own murder.

Nine days prior to Milk’s death, more than 900 followers of Jim Jones—many of them campaign workers for Milk—perished in the most ghastly set of murder-suicides in modern history. Before the congregants of the Peoples Temple drank Jim Jones’s deadly Kool-Aid, Harvey Milk and much of San Francisco’s ruling class had already figuratively imbibed. Milk occasionally spoke at Jones’s San Francisco–based headquarters, promoted Jones through his newspaper columns, and defended the Peoples Temple from its growing legion of critics.

Jones provided conscripted “volunteers” for Milk’s campaigns to distribute leaflets by the tens of thousands. Milk returned the favor by abusing his position of public trust on behalf of Jones’s criminal endeavors.

“Rev. Jones is widely known in the minority communities here and elsewhere as a man of the highest character, who has undertaken constructive remedies for social problems which have been amazing in their scope and effectiveness,” Supervisor Milk wrote President Jimmy Carter seven months before the Jonestown carnage.

The purpose of Milk’s letter was to aid and abet his powerful supporter’s abduction of a six-year-old boy. Milk’s missive to the president prophetically continued: “Not only is the life of a child at stake, who currently has loving and protective parents in the Rev. and Mrs. Jones, but our official relations with Guyana could stand to be jeopardized, to the potentially great embarrassment of our State Department.”

John Stoen, the boy whose actual parents Milk libeled to the president as purveyors of “bold-faced lies” and blackmail attempts, perished at Jonestown. This, the only remarkable episode in Milk’s brief tenure on the San Francisco board of supervisors, is swept under the rug by his hagiographers.

Sean Penn’s Harvey Milk is as real as Toby Maguire’s Spider-Man. Who has time for the sordid details of purportedly staged hate crimes and boosterism of America’s most prolific mass murderer when there is a gay Martin Luther King to be mythologized?

Even the fervent atheist Milk understood the need for patron saints. When confronted by a jaded supporter over his fabricated tale that the Navy had booted him out because of his sex life, Milk responded: “Symbols. Symbols. Symbols.” He understood his movement better than his movement did. When the facts didn’t fit the script, both Milk and his present-day admirers adjusted the facts.

As the elected sponsors of Harvey Milk Day realize, Californians are more likely to remember the celluloid hero they saw depicted by Sean Penn earlier this year than the obscure city official who walked largely unnoticed in their midst three decades ago.

Randy Shilts, a homosexual San Francisco Chronicle reporter, wrote a favorable and sordid biography of Milk in "The Mayor of Castro Street." The 1982 book detailed Milk's sexual relationships with a 16-year-old, a 19-year-old and other young men:

•     "...sixteen-year-old McKinley was looking for some kind of father figure...At 33, Milk was launching a new life, though he could hardly have imagined the unlikely direction toward which his new lover would pull him." (pages 30-31)
•     "It would be to boyish-looking men in their late teens and early 20's that Milk would be attracted for the rest of his life." (page 24)
•     "Harvey always had a penchant for young waifs with substance abuse problems." (page 180)
•     "Harvey confided one night that at twenty-four, Doug was the oldest man Harvey had ever started an affair with." (page 237)

There is a not-so-subtle difference between tolerating something and condoning it. Tolerating something is to examine without judgment. Condoning implies passing judgment.  I have contacted the Governor to let him know that while I do not condone the homosexual and sexual deviant lifestyle promoted in AB 2567, I believe it is a private issue between adults that falls as an issue of toleration. As such it is a subject that should be approached by families, not dictated by government.

BILL FACTS: SB 572 would establish every May 22 as "Harvey Milk Day" in K-12 public schools in California. Calif. schoolkids to get Milk's agenda year-round

An urgent warning from SaveCalifornia.com President Randy Thomasson. If you're like me, you're very disappointed that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed "Harvey Milk Day" for children in California's goverment school system.

Having an official "gay day" to honor this notorious San Francisco homosexual activist with undefined "suitable commemorative exercises" on school campuses is the icing on the cake for immoral forces that have been working for more than a decade to rope millions of children into the "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender" lifestyle and political agenda.

'HARVEY MILK' MAKES FIVE SCHOOL SEXUAL INDOCTRINATION LAWS
SB 572, "Harvey Milk Day," builds on four existing homosexual-bisexual-transsexual "education" laws. These anti-family laws passed by the Democrat-controlled California Legislature are incrementally turning California "public" schools into sexual indoctrination centers.

• AB 537, signed by Gov. Gray Davis in 1999, permits teachers and students to openly proclaim and display their homosexuality, bisexuality or transsexuality, even permitting cross-dressing teachers, school employees and student on campus, in classrooms, and in rest rooms.

• SB 71, signed by Gov. Davis in 2003 and implemented in 2008 through the new "sexual health" standards approved by appointees of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, teaches children as young as 5th grade that homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality is "normal," and that any consensual sexual behavior is "safe" as long as you "protect" yourself with a condom.

• SB 777, signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007, prohibits all public school instruction and every school activity from "promoting a discriminatory bias" against (effectively requiring positive depictions of) homosexuality, bisexuality, and transsexuality to schoolchildren as young as five years old. SB 777 means children will be taught their "gender" is a matter of choice. When fully implemented, SB 777 will affect everything on campus -- classroom instruction, instructional materials, textbooks, guest speakers, handouts, videos, sex education, drama, music, school assemblies, sports teams, homecoming games, school proms, school clubs, etc. There is no "opt out" for parents.

• AB 394, signed by Gov. Schwarzenegger in 2007, effectively promotes homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual indoctrination of students, parents, and teachers via "anti-harassment" and "anti-discrimination" materials, to be publicized in classrooms and assemblies, posted on walls, incorporated into curricula on school websites, and distributed in handouts to take home.

What's more, beyond these school sexual indoctrination laws, there is no California statute prohibiting public school teachers from promoting any legal sexual lifestyle or sexual practice; schools can hold pro-"lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT)" "diversity days" or a "diversity week"; schools can permit the pro-"LGBT" "Day of Silence" in April; and school districts must permit "Gay-Straight Alliance" clubs on high school and junior high campuses. There are more than 700 GSA clubs on California (see list).
