Has anyone noticed lone tree lately?

Yesterday, I was driving down Lone tree (in Antioch) and I couldn't help but notice all the trash! It's pretty disgusting! What can we do as a community to help this situation? Im pretty sure it's from the kids that attend DVHS, but how can we fix this problem?

I agree the trash problem in “Antioch” is disgusting. It’s not just DVHS, look at all of Antioch. Unfortunately the trash problem is not as simple as picking it up. We could have volunteers pick up trash and we could pick up any trash we see our self but I do not see anything getting better doing that.

The problem is the mindset of a lot of people. I have heard it time and time again “It’s only one soda, or cigarette, or bag.” Some parents never taught their kids that throwing garbage out their window and on the ground is gorse.

If you think the trash on Lone Tree is only from DVHS kids, I will tell you, you are wrong. I see more adults throw trash on he ground then teens and kids.

I also believe if we pick up the trash every time someone throws it on the ground their thought will remain the same “Someone else will pick it up.” Richmond spends thousands of dollars to have trucks go around to pick up all the trash, and look at Richmond today. It’s way worse then Antioch. So the old idea of community volunteer clean up crews I do not believe will help.

What do I think will help? I believe in the littering law. I believe in police enforcement of that law. If only the community would stand up and turn litter bugs into the police and the police would actually enforce the law. If only this would happen I believe those that litter will think twice before throwing trash on the ground and out their car windows when they receive a minimum of a $1000 fine. That is what I would like to see, enforcement of the littering law.

I have noticed this too, but not just round Lone Tree. I see people dumping entire bags of fast food out of their cars at intersections. Do we call and report a license number? Will they actually follow through because there's no proof other than my word? Enforcement seems tough (I wish it worked), we have to find a way for people to have a bit of PRIDE.

i pick up the trash across my house, a side yard, let's say one's a month, but i am getting tired of it. it's getting more and more, i even move my car when our street sweeper comes.

what i pick up is mostly fast food bags and beer/ schnaps bottles. for shooping carts i call the pick up service, and the carts he does not take, i call the store management.

i don't know what to do with 2 tires, and 2 doors...lol

what happens to the idea to charge the fast food industry a fee?

It is not the fast food industries fault people are pigs. If I sold you my old car and you decided to leave it on the side of the road it would not be my fault you decided to abandon the car. The same as its not the fast food chains fault people don't use the trash cans provided or keep their trash in their cars till they reach a trash can at their destination.

I would like to see the littering law enforced. Maybe we need to bring this up at the next meeting and every city meeting till something is done, write letters, make it known we want this law enforced.

As soon as I have the money (if I ever do) I plan to install video surveillance in my truck. Recording 24/7 while moving and while parked. This way when I turn in lawbreakers and litterbugs to the police I have video proof.

Also Weather the law is enforced or not. If more people called the non-emergency police line reporting violators there would be more attention paid to such violations. Anyone can sit there and say, “why bother the police wont do anything about it anyway.” If we all do nothing, nothing will change. Turn someone in anyway, even if nothing happens at least it will get the police thinking and maybe the ball rolling to real change.

berlin, any large items that are dumped on public property are picked up by Public Works. All you need to do it call the Public Works Department. They have a storage place for them before they get hauled off for recycling or dumping.

"if only the community would stand up"(???)   Our justice system makes it really hard to enforce the law, as a matter of fact, our laws should be tougher, much, much tougher. As far as discipline is concerned , that does not even exist in our society anymore. people  (kids especially ) do whatever they want, they're not afraid of authority , fines ...etc.  they know they can get away with it, with a a little slap on the wrist by the judge  & they also have the ACLU to back them up.   I don't want to compare , but if you've been to Singapore you'll know what I mean , they have laws & they enforce them!!  (and oh yes, they do have ACLU & human rights) but laws are made to be followed.  Simply said, the penalties fits the crime & this applies to all.  (caning & all) ...

the kids in my hood throw trash everywhere. my neighbors and i go around picking it up while they watch us. At times they will pick one thing and give it to us.

We have picked up 4 garbage bags and a day or two later it is all back.

They are pigs and have no respect for where they live.

I have a nice idea. In school suspension should be done cleaning up the neighborhood or painting over the grafetti.

I'm sick and tired of people using Kirker Pass as a dump too, I wish I could catch them and turn them in, it would be worth my time to follow them and get their license and a photo of their vehicle. This is why I carry a camera and video recorder with me most days.

Yes I agree with the trash part. Stinkfish, you must have been looking in the mirror.

Appears you always have complaints but no solutions, this is what  exemplifies  (Stinksfish this is a big word for you , it means to illustrate). most of Antioch . Complain, complain and complain. They should do that, they should do this., you are "they" shut up and do something...

You know that frustrating feeling when you're going through a parking lot and think you see an open stall, but as you start to pull in there's a motorcycle in it you couldn't see at first?  That happened to me yesterday, only this time it was a dilapidated old blue couch!

Up until midnight last night it was probably a BMW. You didn't find a glass slipper nearby did you?

Look people like you just dont get it .....Antioch passed the tipping pint awhile ago.   I have as well as many others have done their part.  Sometimes there are just to many of the "bad" people in relationship to the "good".  I know the truth hurts but thats the way it is.

I was at Bases Loaded a while back with some friends and we were sampling some of their many draft beers by passing some tipping pints around the group so we could each take a sip. I tipped the Longboard Ale back a bit too far and got my shirt wet.

(Sorry stinkfish. I couldn't resist. No hard feelings?)

Provide options and solutions, not complaints.

I hear you all it can be frustrating, even I get frustrated.  Like Berlin, I clean up my neighborhood.  I refuse to let others "trash" it.  As a matter of fact, I was waiting for the weather to cool a bit as that is what I was going to do later this evening.

I feel if an area is allowed to deteriorate, it will.  If we band together to make a difference we can, a little at a time.  Somethings take time and don't always happen overnigt.

Stay positive and take pride in your neighborhood.

I am the first one to pick up the trash on my block, and I never complain or hesitate to clean the neighbors "mess". But I'm talking about Lonetree (and as others have pointed out, most of Antioch). Should I drive down there park my car and pick up all the trash I can by myself? Should I contact the APD or the city? I really love my city! and Im willing to help anyway I can. I just need a hint on which way to go...

Cool thanks

Thanks for your positive spin.  So many forums bash Antioch and air our dirty laundry out for all to read but don't offer any ideas or solutions to help make it better.  MOST peope in Antioch are good hardworking folk who don't want their property value to decline and who enjoy living in a suburb away from inner city life.  You are so right when you say that if an area is allowed to deteriorate, it will.  My husband and I don't wait for public works to clean our street or the hillside behind our home.  Even though these areas are "public property" we get out and do our part to make our neighborhood better.  I have also written to the city to request better street lighting to help deter nighttime loitering.  Also, if anyone is interested, the police department sponsors a monthly cleanup on the first Saturday of every month.  Volunteers get together and target an area to beautify.  These may seem like little steps, but they do make a difference.

New street lighting is on the way for all of Antioch.  A contract has been signed with Honeywell  to start installing the new lights.  You can see the difference in the parking lot at city hall and I believe at one or two of the parks.  The names of which escape me, sorry.

It will make a huge diffference in the lighting and save money.  All should be completed in the next 9 months I believe.

Ive noticed in urban cities that younger teens and adults literally throw fast food bags of Garbage out of the window and they move out here and forget that theyre not in their discusting old neighborhood anymore and they continue to show us their lack of home training.

Wondering if anyone has contacted the City of Antioch and reported the problem?  If so, did you get a response?

We did and haven't heard back..trash is still there.  And, it's everywhere!  Not just on Lone Tree Way, but Hillcrest, Dallas Ranch and Deer Valley Road.  Yes, it's bad by the high school, but it's not just there.

Who is accountable for making the decisions that Antioch residents should be living with this?  I thought we paid for additional assessments in addition to property taxes to ensure that our investments in the community were well-managed.  Can't blame foreclosures or economy on this!
