There was a shooting reported at the mexican food place on 9th a H Sts around 2025 today.  One vic was shot with a .45 and transported by AMR to JMC. APD had one in custody for PC 148 and other charges, and prior to booking the subject was to be tested for GSR.  CSIs are at the scene now gathering evidence and taking witness statements.  There are 3 other subjects that are of interest to the PD that are currently outstanding.  That's all I have now.

That's scary JHD.  Poor business owner is just trying to make a living.  I sure hope the proprietor is going to be ok and they catch all those people involved.  It's maddening.

I remember when I first moved here  back in 1999- I had a routine set on the weekends for grocery shopping - depending on where the good sales where.

I used to hop on the bus right outside my apt - get off near 18th and A - enjoy looking at the little bungalow homes in downtown and day dream of one day maybe owning one (I still think they are cute)- feeling completely safe - no loud booming stereos - no wandering baggy pants thugs.  Stop at my bank (which got robbed last year I believe?) to get my laundry quarters, stroll up to Savemart - beautiful morning, birds chirping.  Again - feeling totally safe - no baggy pants thugs anywhere in sight.  No loud booming stereos.

Do my shopping, flirt with the produce guy at Savemart (back when I was single - not now too old for the flirting LOL) - go back home.

Never worried about being shot at.  Never worried about being mugged.  Never had a problem passenger on the bus.  Never was really scared.

Now?  I am scared all the time.  There are places I miss being able to walk to because of the thugs and mooches (did anyone read about the lady who was beat up by a mooch since she only had 50 cents on her?  Sickening).  There are places my caveman won't go fishing at anymore because of aggressive mooches in the area.

I miss my old Antioch.  I really do.  Where did all these bad people come from?  It really makes me sad and I really want to cry.

I feel so sorry for the local business people here - scared to operate their business because of these dirtbags.  It's just so sad.  I hope the businessman recuperates well.

I remember when I moved here back in 92' from the city.  Being hispanic and living in the city I was used to variety of ethnicities.  I had grown up with kids from all backgrounds.  Moving here was a change, it was like moving into a Brady Bunch movie.  The neighborhoods were new, the houses all looked like replicas of small maps, the parks were clean.

We moved in over by Hillcrest Meadow Creek Area.  So our main park was the knoll park.  I remember playing football and baseball there with my new friends.  I remember for the first time my parents letting me stay out till midnight with all my friends roaming around the neighborhood.  Back in those times there was still a lot of construction going around.

I remember how all the neighbors new us kids, and even though they weren't our parents, if they saw us doing something bad, they would correct us, and knowing that they knew who our parents and were we lived that was enough to get us kids out of serious trouble.  It taught us to respect our neighborhoods and the property of those who lived there.

I remember being able to leave our brand new bikes out on the drive way all night, knowing full well they would be their in the morning.  People use to go out side at night to walk there dogs or just to take a stroll around the neighborhoods with their loved ones.  Mothers used to push their babies in there carriages to get in that morning or evening exercises.

I don't see these types of things anymore.  I see kids going around waling in packs, just waiting to cause some sort of mishief.  I don't see them being corrected by neighbors or their parents.  People no longer talk durring those hot summer nights, no one posts their seat on t.v. in their garage anymore to keep watch.  I see all these neighborhood watch signs up but nobody is even watching.  Cars are no longer safe infront of our very houses much less bicycles or toys.  It's been years since I've a parent make their kid cut the lawn, now strangers are being payed to do it for people.

I see kids walking around with giant stereo's on their shoulders or in their book bags blasting their rap music as they walk along.  Which a stereo system in the bag I wonder were they keep their actual books.

I no longer see kids playing catch in the middle of the street.  Just kids hanging around at the corner screaming and cussing and this is how they normally socialize.  Where are the parents?  Why aren't the parents taking responsibility of these disrespectful kids?

Fifteen years ago we used to play ball in he street.  As soon as we saw a car driving down, everyone would yell car in order for all the kids to get out of the way so the car can pass.  Now a days, kids don't move, they actually stay in the middle of the steet and challenge you to hit them.

Why not make it mandatory that each neighborhood to form watch programs, and make it so that citizens with children must be active members.  This way parents can play an active roll in the communities safety as well as their own children.  By making it mandatoy that all parents participate it will also motivate them to keep their integrity and good standing among their neightbors, because no parent wants to have the child or children that are the trouble makers.  So you can bet these parents will be on top of their rug rats.

Thus decreasing crime, creating awareness, and giving our overworked and understaffed police force a chance to enforce law more effectively.

Thank you for your remembering days......I remember those days too!! I was born in Antioch back in 1967. The days you recall are long gone, I'm afraid we will never see them again. I miss them and wish they could continue for my children and grandchildren. From what I see, back then only the dads worked and the moms stayed home. That can not be, living in these times, both parents have to work. Now days the kids are raised by babysitters or become latch key kids. The kind of kids we know today are the problems that started years ago.  Now days the parents have a long commute to work, have to leave 1-2 hours early, at work 8-9 hours, then commute hom 1-2 hours. The kids are in daycare up to 13 hours a day. Parents pick them up from daycare, go to the drive-thru for dinner(no time for cooking), get home, stick the kids in the tub or shower(that's if the child is lucky to have a parent that is concerned about their hygenine), put them to bed. The parents and children have no family time, don't know what happened during the childs day, don't know about homework or special activities at school. I also know parents who pick the kids up from daycare, then go to the gym for 1-2 hours, put the kids in another daycare at the gym, a couple nights a week. Family time to some parents are taking the little ones to church on Sunday's and putting the kids in the church daycare. Parents are not raising their own children anymore, that's where things started going wrong!!

Sure we all want better than our parents, a nice, big house, new cars, week to month long vacations, but at what cost??? Our childrens future?? Both parents don't have to work, they choose to work!! Their wants are bigger than their needs!! I think some parents choose to work to get away from the kids who are out of control!!

I could rattle on about this, but the people who have been in Antioch awhile should understand what I'm saying.

Now, what to do to get our children/ town back??? Sorry to say, it probably won't ever happen!!

Those were the days. The people who stand up for the people causing this never experienced those days. That is where the dissconnect lies
