everyone in the downtown area knew, they were going to slow down when the bypass opened. it's not like it's a surprise or they had no idea. so now instead of phoning in my order i'll stop by to pick up my flowers from holly since i'll be able to pull out of the drive way now.

a 20% drop in walkin business isn't going to collapse the downtown area. they just don't get to take home as much now. i've been back buying from those merchants, i didn't for the most part because of all the traffic. i hated it. i'm glad all the cars go the other way instead of through our town.

don't worry, the city has grand plans, to over build oakley and collect as much tax money as they can. they won't let downtown die.

The 20% drop in business at the florist shop in Oakley is right in line with the 15-20% drop is sales figures for most of the major retailers. Most major retailers report their same store sales figures every month if they are listed on the NYSE or NASDAQ exchanges. A simple Google search will show that the new Hwy 4 Bypass is not the primary cause for the Oakley businesses.

I work with Nurseries and Greenhouses all over the Western US. Most of them are off 25-35% this season so far. In my case it is more related to weather and the economy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carl Spackler: This crowd has gone deadly silent, a Cinderella story outta nowhere. You're right Arne, " It's the economy, stupid....". BTW, IMHO, I love the new Bypass!

Gimmie a break..... How many people, who drive thru Oakley, or did, have ever shopped at an Oakley business. 20%? I don't think so. Most go thru town as fast as they can.

No matter where you go, there you are.
