There was a grass fire that as you said threatened houses, but I did not hear any structures damaged. It was Sa[]ay between 2 and 4 pm I believe. Police and fire responded to the area. Police evacuated the near-by houses and after that were even using residential hoses to fight the fire from the top while the fire department worked from the bottom. Police called out animal control to remove three dogs (two locked in a backyard kennel and one running loose). Hillcrest was closed in both directions for awhile. Residents were sent to 7-11 parking lot to wait to go home.
And near the end of this, a residential burglary came in on Texas Street. Elderly lady was at the Wells Fargo on 18th and A where her purse was stolen in the parking lot with a $22,000 check. When she went home she found two guys in her house. Victim believes it was the same suspects who got her address from her purse. Police did not locate the suspects because most units were in the southeast at the fire unfortunately.

There was also a fire in that vicinity on Thursday. And I heard there were 2 juveniles starting a fire at the school on Spaulding this morning. Are they connected? Is there an arsonist? Maybe, best keep your eyes open and report anything suspicious.
