As a resident of the Clayton-Concord area, I find it to be a pain in the butt to get to any freeway, whether it be the 4, the 680, or the 242. The commute going via Ygnacio Valley Rd. through Walnut Creek is a nightmare that could last for 10-35 minutes...on the streets! Here's whats been on my wish list for quite some time. Resolve this madness by building a freeway that would start from the existing 24/680 intersection..and continue EAST to EAST-NORTH, parallel to Ygnacio Valley Rd. which would eventually meet with Hwy 4 in the Pittsburgh/Antioch area. HERE IS THE MAP I CREATED TO SHOW AN EXAMPLE OF FREEWAY: http://bp2.blogger.com/_TkqjvGmZnWY/SF86o7iGlJI/AAAAAAAAACU/VTwQscE2m7w/s1600-h/New24Extension.jpg You say you don't want traffic coming from Pittsburgh/Antioch going through the Clayton/Walnut Creek area? Alright...we'll just end the Extended 24 freeway at the vicinity of Clayton Rd and Ygnacio Valley Rd. This would clear up all the traffic on Ygnacio Valley in a heartbeat. Walnut Creek residents can have their city back while commuters can zip on by via the new Freeway. Id like to hear your thoughts on why or why this wouldnt work.

I can't see that flying. The route you laid out goes directly through downtown WC, which is a non-starter, not to mention skirting by Shell Ridge, flying by Boundary Oaks, and carving through the steep hills of Kirker Pass. But in looking at the map, the more logical solution, and one which may have already been proposed (but I haven't heard of it) is to cut through the old Naval Weapons property just north of Concord Blvd. Have it start at Highway 4 at Port Chicago Hwy (or Willow Pass Rd), and connect Kirker Pass Rd. just north of Concord Blvd. It's flat, there's no housing or businesses....Why not? I guess the little detail of having the navy give up the property might present one snag. It's a longer loop, but the only route I can see most Contra Costans agreeing on.
