Here we go again. Uneducated and non riding folks always want to do away with lane splitting because it is "dangerous". Riders love lane splitting because it gets us out of harms way quicker.
Do some abuse lane splitting? Yes. Does that mean we should do away withit? No.
Ask CHP if they want to eliminate lane splitting.

scooterboy,
I think that most people that understand the law don't have a problem with it, but, it's the ones that don't obey the law the people are frustrated with, you know the ones that lane split at 70 or 80 miles an hour weaving in and out of lanes. Hiway 4 is the worst, not so much when there is traffic but when the traffic is moving the speed limit and someone on a bike comes between you and another car at 80 plus miles per hour. You can't see them quick enough and scares the h e ll out of you. If they would follow the law as intended, again, most people wouldn't have a problem.

I ride and lane split (at those kind of speeds... no way).
Unfortunately I hate say it... that kind of activity subscribes to the "Process of natural selection." Darwinism at it's best!

I generally take a regular spot when traffic gets up to about twenty mph.
Consider also that some Harley might be sitting next to you for five minutes if they didn't move along. It's really a non-issue.
