The City of Concord is planning to layoff many employees. A Council Meeting on May 4 will hear the City Manager recommend cutting staff. No managers are being cut. Only low paid non manager positions. The City Management is top heavy and very well paid but after taking a 5% paycut which will is not enough to make even a small dent in the deficit the Dept. Directors have been asked to cut jobs. They have targeted the lowest paid positions who are the workers that perform the services that serve the community. Management is top heavy. Last February a new position was created that added $20,000 and a new title to a job that has been done for years by a lower position. There are other ways to save jobs and maintain the services the City needs but the managers have protected themselves well. There are alternatives to the plan being proposed but without the support of the community and the City Council those who can least protect themselves will be sacrificed so the fat cats can continue unscathed. City workers are dedictated and hard working and need your support. Please let the City Council hear from you and stop these unnecessary layoffs. Cost cutting of two Director positions would save $600,000 which translates into at least 12 jobs. The Directors have fat retirement benefits and would not suffer whereas the working staff targeted have no suce protection.

There must be other ways to cut costs and reduce the layoffs. I thought the City had a goal of taking care of it's employees. I don't understand how they can target the low paid ones. Those who are making more money should make some sacrifices to help preserve jobs. We're all being hurt in this bad economic crisis. Why should some people be cut while those making the most go on without helping? There has to be a better way. The City Council members should act to change this.

They won't do anything! These are political positions. These people are non essential. It is the tipical corruption of most cities. Cut the little employees who cannot contribute to the mayor in form of donations of votes. Keep the managers who give out the contracts in exchange for campaing donations of future speaking fees. Corruption!
