for those of you who are always asking what is going on with police activities well i have solved your problem you can listen to the scanner online any where in the US once you get into the sight your computer speakers will be divided one for police and one for fire you can adjust this if you mess around with the settings once scanning. type in simply (scanamerica.us) and nothing else click on your state then scroll down to your county and click let it buffer and whallah hoop there it is. however i bounced my hand held scanner off of this site and they werent in sync but you hear live police and fire. enjoy

Actually JHD, you spelled site correct for the other meaning, sight, and you had me freaked out for a minute there thinking all this time my computer speakers could see me! Be careful man, you really freaked me out! LOL!

I'll have to try this, but did you say fire would come out of one of my speakers? You're freaking me out again! Should I get an extinguisher at the ready?

Thank you, jhd.

Curiosity question...how out of sync was your hand held scanner and the online site?  Is it simply a matter of seconds?

it was really out of sync but i think it is my computer as the reason.

Jdh, A very useful link for those of us that do not have scanners!  I am using the second link on the page:   Contra Costa County Fire and Antioch/Brentwood Police:

(a stereo feed with Contra Costa County Fire dispatch channels in the left speaker and Contra Costa County Fire tactical channels, Antioch/Brentwood Police, and CalFire (during peak seasons) in the right speaker)  -- and it does take some getting used to figuring out which one is talking.

Why is there Morris Code [or what seems to be Morris Code] used?  Or is it just an alert that a message going to be transmitted?  - The police speaker seems to have a lot of static, beeping and is sometimes garbled, this is usual?

Which feed are you listening to or do you like best?

And if you are new to the codes, like me, here is a link to help sort them out:

Since listening to 2 channels was too much for me, I silenced my left speaker.

Thanks for the link to the codes.

If it ain't a word yet, then we should coin it here:

ambiauditory

Seems like that's a skill you need to develope in order to listen to and make sense of both speakers at once.

Coin it...I am already somewhat ambidextrous.  Let's see if I can develop a new skill and become ambiauditory.  Just remember my ambiauditory skills are being developed.  So, any scanner report posted by me during this learning period is highly suspect.  :-)

Ambiauditory? What if you are just flat out tone deaf?

Two guys got stabbed at the Pittsburg 7-11 by somebody wearing "dark clothing."

Now how did I know that when I haven't been listening to a scanner?  (No, I'm not wearing dark clothing.  Guess again...)

I think we need to refine the skill further since ambiauditory doesn't imply that you can make sense of what's coming out of both speakers at the same time.

simultaneous bilateral ambiauditoryism should cover it.

OK I know it is probably something simple and I'm showing just how very little I know about computers but......how do you find where to separate right/left speakers.  When I tried all I got was Fire Dept.  Thanks in advance.

Sounds and Audio Device Properties, then

MIDI music playback, then Volume

Under the WAVE heading adjust for right and left speakers

how has the scanner worked for every one? does this site scratch the itch that so many have had on what is going on in our town as far as police activities.

I did exactly that...logged into my son's area in CT!   Have not had a lot of time home lately but will spend more time on it in the next few days.  I think it is great.  Thanks for finding it.

not a problem so when you really get hooked you will spend a little money and get a portable they are easy to program and they are much more entertaining than the radio sometimes when you make errands or something,i have tach channels to where they go to a side channel and you can hear them talking at ease such as hey bro where you at iam setting up a perimeter over here, right on good to go bro. then once you learn all the codes you can cipher pretty quickly what is going on as it unfolds.

jhd1200, please do me a favor and don't post the frequencies to those TAC channels on this board. The bad guys already monitor the main police channels making it difficult to catch them by surprise as it is!

As you mentioned what you've heard on those channels, it would be a shame to have those same bad guys know a perimeter (or whatever the operation might be) is being set up on them thus allowing them to destroy evidence or arm themselves prior to police intervention. Maybe sending the frequencies via email to those you can trust? :)

I know they frequencies are technically "public" domain, but making it that much harder for the bad guys is always a good thing, IMHO.

I'll leave it up to your best judgement, though. Happy listening! People like you are why I think twice before I speak on the air. I don't want to make a mistake and sound like an idiot then get to read about it here!!  LOL

Thanks! Keep up the good work!!

i would not post those at any cost however if the bad guys really wanted them they could get them. i wouldnt put APD or any PD at risk like that.

these channels are public im just saying i wouldnt post them because i dont have any reason to and if some crook had a scanner it would probably help them if i did post possibly.

I said in my earlier post "I know they frequencies are technically "public" domain, but making it that much harder for the bad guys is always a good thing, IMHO."

I was only asking that the TAC channel frequencies not be posted on this board in an effort to make it that much more difficult for the dirtbags in our society to use it for bad things. I'm fully aware that they are available in scanner books, magazines, other webpages where they're posted for free, etc, but I'd rather make the dirtbags have to pay for the information than finding them here. While at work I've come across a few scanners that were being used by bad guys to monitor police activity and they had no idea the TAC channels even existed to begin with. All I was hoping was to not make it easily known to the bad guys. Sorry if I didn't make that abundantly clear earlier.

I see my "friend" "Livermore Michelle (Mike) has once again followed me onto yet another topic! He's been following me around for about a month or so and I'm used to it. He's like MRSA! You try treating it but the staph infection won't go away no matter what you do! LOL He's one of those few forum posters that hates police officers and firefighters and takes every opportunity to harass those that have opposing views to his own. I've had him on ignore so I don't see his vile posts anymore but I'm pretty sure he's made his true colors available for all to see. I apologize to all for being subjected to his idiocy. I suggest you put him on ignore right away as he's very similar to "Ohso". Thank God his posts about where I work are incorrect or I'd be concerned for my safety as he definitely seems mentally unbalanced enough to actually try to find me! Reader beware!

Thanks!

Nice point, Jhd!   Unfortunately "LM" has a way of hijacking every thread and bringing it around to police/fire pensions. Like I said, IGNORE, IGNORE, IGNORE!!

Now, anything good last night heard on the scanners? (I don't listen to mine at home)
