One movie my husband probably won't go see with me, so I have no one to go with =c(
Although he did sit through Sweeny Todd and kind of liked it, and he was the one who wanted to watch it!! (before he knew it was a musical and involved mostly singing, I kept telling him, 'that's what a musical is, dear.' For some reason he never believes me when I tell him this!!)
A little different story matter though . . . I think he liked all the blood, which won't be something he would be seeing in Mamma Mia, I'm assmuming lol
Definetly let us know how it is!!
Sweeney Todd was very creative. Am I the only one who wanted to cheer out in approval when that "Borat" guy got killed and stuffed in the trunk? That guy is obnoxious!
I loved the lyrics to "A little Priest" when Sweeney Todd and Mrs. Lovett devise their plan to use village people in their meaty pies instead of alleycats:
Is that squire,On the fire?Mercy no, sir, look closer,You'll notice it's grocer!Looks thicker,More like vicar! No, it has to be grocer --It's green! Here's the politician, so oilyIt's served with a doily,Have one!
Ha, Ha, and "Shepherd's pie peppered with real shepherd on top." The Jeffrey Dahmer special!
I don't know if Roy would appreciate Sweeney Todd like we did. He better stick to Mama Mia. LOL
My wife bought a whole bunch of tix for Mamma Mia but she couldn't reach me at the time and wasn't sure I wanted to because my back still bothers me when i sit too long. I decided I wanted to go so I went by the theatre and also pre-bought a ticket for me. She got there early with my kids and sent them in to save seats for everyone. I came later in a separate car and saw her outside waiting for her mom, sister, and her nieces and nephews to arrive because she had their tickets she bought at lunch time. The Dark Knight movie made it a real mess as parking lot was filled and the lines were long. My wife told me to go in and buy her a "large coke" and natchos with extra cheese while she waited outside for her family. I fought the crowd in the recession lines and bought a whole bunch of food for wife, kids, and me.
I was struggling to carry all the stuff, especialy the two gallon coke my wife ordered, so figuring I had lots of time because the kids were saving seats, I decided to eat my hot dog at the condiment stand to lighten the load a little. I finally walked into the full theatre with all the food right before the lights went out to start the pre-views when I discover nobody bothered to tell my kids who were saving the seats that I was even coming to the movie! The worst part was they took the food and didn't even feel bad for me not having a seat saved. I finally spotted one of those handicap jobs unoccupied so I moved my back brace to the outside of my shirt and hobbled over it and ever so gingerly sat down. Thank goodness Roy didn't come limping in or I might have had to give up my seat to him.
I thought the movie was great. Meryl Streep was fabulous, hard to believe she is 59. Some very funny parts. The whole audience seemed to enjoy it, although my daughter said she liked the musical better than the movie. I thought it was great.
We dad's get no respect these days thanks to the ad departments that have been depicting us as worthless dolts for years. It's getting old and unfortunately the kids are picking up on it since they're glued to the tube all day.
I didn't mind sitting by myself at the movie. I understand since I hurt my back, my family prefers not to be around me because I can't fend for myself. You know, the other day I wanted to get something at the grocery store that was on the bottom shelf, but felt helpless because I couldn't bend down to get it. Thank goodness there was another shopper nearby, so I said,
"Excuse me old lady, would you mind handing me that soap on the bottom shelf? I can't reach it."
"Why certainly, young man, she replied, if you would you be kind enough to hand me that Metamucil on the top shelf."
Why is it whenever I ask for help it comes with a condition?
I need a full time personal assistant. A mini-me would be perfect!
BJ,
If you'd put on a little more weight I might be able to pass as mini you. Wasn't mini me a little angier than Dr. Evil? I could wear my "Bite Me" shirt I got from fishing on a boat by the same name.
Gummy Peas?
Peas,
Given the disparity in I.Q.'s between you and BJ and given the fact that he is on the quiet side, perhaps Master Blaster from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome is a more appropriate tandem to emulate.
Too many really bad mullets in that movie for my taste.
I'll have you know I'm still carying my fake I.Q. I got in college. You'll notice I always talk up Cal and Stanford. Somehow Humboldt State and San Diego State (Cal State Hayward, Grossmont JC, as well) don't carry the same intelectual weight.
C+ Peas
Boy did the critics screw up? They picked little pieces to carp about and didn't rate this movie as it should have been. Can't remember when I've enjoyed a movie more. Tears of laughter. And yes to the critics, Pierce Brosnan can't sing..but that did not diminish our enjoyment of the show. Not often you hear applause at near the end of a movie and then lots more after the two encores. Hardly anyone moved from their seats until the credits stopped rolling.
This is a "Can't miss it" movie.

I am taking my mom, my grandmother and my husbands grandmother to see it tonight. They are going to love it! I hope... The only thing I am worried about is the elderly ladies being overwhelmed by "Dark Knight" traffic that may be there at the same time. We are going to try and get tickets for tonight's show at lunch time today so that we can beat a bit of the rush. justamom1
Well, I guess I will have to wait until it's on 'on demand' and watch it one day while my hubby is at work.
BTW, we saw 'The Dark Knight' in Imax . . . holy cow it was SO good!!
Poor Heath Ledger, no wonder he needed help sleeping after playing the part of the Joker. It was one of the most amazing performances I have seen in a long time. One of the most disturbing and funny villans ever in my opinion - I had a hard time believing it was really him while I was sitting there watching.
Sorry to hijack the thread for a minute!!!
Thanks for the review! I was reluctant to put this on my list of "Must Sees", but, now we've gotta do that, too. Maybe next weekend. Lynn has to work at school a few days this week at Knightsen, so mid-week is out.

That's the important thing Roy, I'm sure the singing on stage is superior and the movie is still coming through speakers even though they are pretty good nowadays, but I think they did a great job casting Mamma Mia. Having actors the audience is familiar with playing those lighthearted and funny roles made it a great experience and I liked Pierce Brosnan in it too. The ending when the credits were rolling was fun. I've got Mamma Mia songs stuck in my head, but that's ok because I'm going to hear them all again at the Abracadabra show at the El Campanil in a few weeks anyway.
I keep hearing how great the Dark Knight is too, so that's next on our list.
We saw Mamma Mia this weekend and Dark Knight tonight. Both were good movies. Mamma Mia was a very fun movie, and although I have not seen the play, I was familiar with most of the songs. I would recommend it to anyone. There were some strange twists, but overall it was was very enjoyable.
The Dark Knight was rivetting, but there was a lot of violence and the plot got a little bizarre at the end. Still, I enjoyed it but would not suggest it for kids under 13. It just isn't the feel good movie that Mamma Mia is. Heath did a heck of an acting job and it may have been an Oscar winning performance.
This Movie was soooo great. I have not laughed like that in a long time. The mother daughter thing was a bit tearjerking too. All in all this movie made me want to get up in the aisle and start dancing!! Meryl Streep is awesome!! Pierce Brosnan isn't exactly the best singer but it was still great. I would go and see it again. I will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. LOVED IT!! justamom1
Saw the movie yesterday afternoon. What a fun movie. I went alone and was dancing in my seat! LOL Kept looking around to see if someone was watching but all heads were forward!

This is a movie I will want to see again and again. Meryl Streep was greater than I expected in the dancing and singing scenes. She is such a great actress. I too will have the tunes in my head for a while.
Consider attending the upcoming show at El Campanil Theatre Saturday Aug 9 at 8 pm.
Abbacadabra performs the ultimate tribute to ABBA. Over 20 songs that will have you wondering at the end of the night, "Was that really them"?
With only 150 seats left, it looks like a sellout. Adults:$32 Seniors (62 & older): $28 and Youth: (under 18): $15.

Out of Wedlock girl born to Mother who slept with three (3) men & does not know who the Daddy is-- & this is a good thing & we sing & dance. Look at modern day California-- great role model. Mom is a [bleep]. Take your daughters so they can see that there is no issue if you act badly. THere is always Section8, WIC & the like.
Drop Dead Fred (1991)
I'm looking forward to Abbracadaver! We got 7 seats down close.
001, I'm like you on Dark Knight. I guess I've seen too many superhero movies. It was a long movie too and the last scenes went on forever. I got a little lost with the plot and who were cops and who were clowns. That media wall with all the TV's and sounds was weird. The violence in movies these days is beginning to bug me, so that's why I enjoyed Mamma Mia more. My kids on the otherthand liked Dark Knight much more. One thing you can't argue about was Heath Ledger's captivating performance. He was great! Who was that Batman? Usually they cast someone famous.
Somkey, he dosen't have the ability to enlighten anyone. All of his posts are childish and sarcastic. He only tries to get a rise out of people. Best to just put him on the "Ignore List."
