After that beating the Jets gave the Raiders at home last Sunday, it's time to take a closer look at JaMarcus Russell. We all know former head coach Lane Kiffin had so little confidence in JaMarcus that the only thing he did in the pocket was turn and hand it to his running back. We later learned that following Kiffin's firing, Al Davis said his head coach had to develop JaMarcus into the great player he was. New head coach Tom Cable then hired respected Quarterbacks coach Paul Hackett and Passing Game coordinator Ted Tollner. They were to develop JaMarcus into the next Mad Bomber. A few years ago, before Gruden, Al brought in quarterback Jeff George. George didn't do much in Atlanta or Indianapolis, but he had that powerful throwing arm Al covets, and besides, he was a great quarterback in practice. But something always happened when he was in the game, maybe it was the opponents pressure, or maybe he was a Jonas. Whatever it was, George also tended to blame others for his lack of success. His lack of leadership got him canned by Gruden, and an early exit from the NFL. Now in his third year, JaMarcus is still inexperienced and not exactly football smart. Tom Cable said that JaMarcus could not get the O lined-up correctly on the first play of the game. What would Gruden have done? It was the last year Gruden was in Oakland. Gannon got nailed and went to the sideline shaken. Before Gruden let Gannon back in the game he made him go through the audibles of a certain formation, which Gannon nailed. Could JaMarcus do that after the QB's meeting let alone with a bell-ringer? So Raider fans if we look back at our history, lousy QBs have always translated into failure. Do you remember any success with Kerry Collins, Donald Hollis, Billy Joe Hobart, Vince Evans, Jay Schroeder, Rusty Hilger, Marc Wilson, etc.? What about Daryl Lamonica, Kenny Stabler, Jim Plunkett and Rich Gannon? Great times indeed. Is there a quarterback out there who can return the Raiders to greatness?

Kiffen was right. Just as Mike Mayock, and Jaws were on draft day. Russell is not an NFL QB. But we will waste 2 more years on him, you watch. Why AD can't see what others can is a mystery. Just as with DHB. Did you see Crabtree last week? VERY CRISP routs with Sharp CUTS!! And the way he just snags the ball out of the air. But we really needed Olinemen. We passed on Monroe. So how does this past draft look. Murphy is the only one contributing. WHAT A JOKE!!!!
Hey nice list of QB's from the past. I was at the KC game in 95 when Billy Joe came in with 5 min left and lit it up. If they would have pulled Evens 5 min sooner we could have won that game. I thought Hobert had a chance to be good. The raiders just can't develop a QB

If I remember correctly, Evans never won a game as starter for the Raiders. He could run, but not much else.

Ya, Evens would heave one down field now and then to Ismial but in the KC game he did his best impression of Neil O'Donnell. Threw 2 horrible passes right to a defender in the flat. I'm surprised Al did not try to sign them like he did Larry brown after the super bowl. LOL.That killed us. When Horbert came in the stadium went wild and he threw 2 td passes to bring us close but with seconds left we did not get the on side kick. The next week the steelers killed us. Hostetler was still hurt from that monday night broncos game.
Anyway, just staggering down memory lane.

Would you like to talk about the time the raiders were to lay down against the bengals so the steelers would not make the playoffs in 76?
Lay down hell. We killed the bengals then dismantled the steelers in the playoffs I beleive 24-7.
Or maybe 1970, the Blanda miricle year. I'm all for the good ol days. That's all we have left now.
