I happen to be the mother of that "Female" mentioned in the article. I want ALL READERS to know that this attorney was desperate and grasping at any straw she could! Don't defend a guilty defendant if you don't want to lose! I can't understand how any person with even an ounce of morals could begin to say that My daughter fired a gun period, let alone first! Listen, If gun powder would have been found on her hands then trust and believe she would have most certainly been detained and placed into custody...especially being that at the time she was on juvenile probation for a non violent, non gang related, offense! The impact of Angelos death on all who were there and who knew and loved him was beyond imagineable! Not one of the children present will ever be the same. Mentally, or emotionally! And that's really an understatement! So, "Shame on you", Ms.Desperate Defense Attorney! Now, as far as the words that I would truely like to say to you as her Mother, ..They will have to patiently wait for the chance when we may happen to see one another face to face! How does a person like her, not to mention the defendent look at theirselves in the mirror everyday?
You ought to be ashamed of your pathetic self!

Hilliard, who was not a gang member but associated with them, was among several youths standing outside a residence on Pittsburg's West Boulevard .... HUH?? associated with gang members ?? hmmmm well i guess if his PARENTS would have had him at home then maybe he wouldnt have run into rival ASSociates ?? hang with gang members, expect something to happen, and it did.

I'm not angry with your ignorant statements. Obviously you don't know the facts! First of all: Angelo was not hanging out on West Blvd. He happened to be on West Blvd in a relatives apartment doing his homework for school the next day! Angelo loved school. Second of all: He was standing on the sidewalk waiting for traffic to pass so that he could safely cross the street to get into the car and come home! Last but not least; You talk down his parents? How dare you talk [bleep] after the loss they have been made to suffer! Why? Because of a [bleep] with no sense of respect, or care for life! They would never have put their baby boy in any harmful situation!! I beg your pardon. Yet they are wrong for attending what most of us parents have to do everyday in order to provide for our families?.. As in "work"? Angelo was a very responsible little boy who went to school that day, then to his cousins house, where they did their homework. Once he was finished with his studies, he called for his ride to come home! No hanging out involved! Further more, not everyone can help where their family happens to live! Some aren't as fortunate as others. I know this street, "West Blvd" has a bad name. So, does that doesn't make every person who happens to be on a street (that's been stereo typed, for whatever God given reason) a gang member? I think you'd agree that, No, It does not! This what we call being at "the wrong place, at the wrong time!" And thats not to mention, the first open targets that this boy happened upon. I really believe that you owe an apology for your comment. I have chosen to inform you of the true facts of this matter so that maybe in the future you won't be so quick to voice any opinion out of ignorance. Now I guess we will find out your response to what you have just learned in my lil'letter to you, and see just what type of person "you" really are.

Perhaps if the editors of Contra Costa Times are monitoring this forum, they can shed light on the staff writer Malaika Fraley's sources on her report: "Hilliard, who was not a gang member but associated with them, was among several youths standing outside a residence on Pittsburg's West Boulevard when Richard Barter and Lopez passed in Barter's truck."
Colleagues from more affluent cities like Walnut Creek tell me about Pittsburg's gang problem. I did not think it was true until I read this story.
