There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Monday, July 14th from 4-8 at the Black Bear Diner. All proceeds benefit the Wilson and Nunn children's trust fund. It's a boxed dinner for $7 (includes spaghetti, green salad, garlic bread and dessert). Go to Black Bear Diner and pick up your dinner to go. No advanced orders. First come, first serve. Donations also welcome.

I drove by there at about 5:20 and the line was down Main Street almost to the used car place.  It looks like the fundraiser is going to be a success! I was hoping to get the fundraiser dinner tonight but I simply cannot stand in that line with a 4 year old and a 10 month old.  I guess it's frozen pizza for us.  I'll have to make a donation at another time. Anyone been through the line?

I got there at 4:30 and the line had already formed out to the palm tree that seperates the Black Bear from the used car dealership.  The parking lot was completely full and we ended up parking all the way down by O'Hara.  The guys from city hall were there handing out cold bottles of water and thanking everyone for coming.  Once inside, the line went into the waiting area of Black Bear; where a memorial to the Nunn's and the Wilson's was displayed along with two poster boards that you could write your condolences on for each family.  From there, the line went toward the cash register and then veered right down the hallway you'd take to get to the restroom.  At the end of that hall, the line went right - into the banquet room - and they had an efficient line set up to handle orders of all sizes.  We stood in line for an hour.  Sadly, the cause did not keep a very small handful of people from complaining about the long line.  My 13 year old daughter started to get a little antsy until I reminded her that she should count her blessings because she was standing in line with her mother and not for her mother.  She conceded and then reflected quietly for the rest of the time.  I felt like telling the guy directly behind me that the whole exercise was totally voluntary and that he should feel free to leave... he was calling everyone he knew on his cell phone to tell them how long he was waiting.  He even said that he felt like if he left people would think he was a communist and "they'd" probably photoshop a picture of him doing something unintelligible.  I guess he thought he was a big deal. Overall - it was a good experience.  The Black Bear did a GREAT job managing the volunteers efficiently.  The line kept moving and the food was pretty tasty.  The Black Bear staff, all the volunteers, the City of Oakley and everyone who stood in line... all deserve a pat on the back.

Last night’s spaghetti feed drew over 1600 customers and netted over $14,000 for the children's trust funds. Thanks to everyone who dropped by, your support of overwhelming. Thanks to all those who volunteered. The bake sale held on the Saturday raised an additional $6000. The residents of Oakley can take a great deal of pride in themselves on how they have reacted to this tragedy.
