It really sucks the way they way they changed the format, There are far fewer posters and far fewer subjects now than under the old format, Of course we are dealing with the Contra Costa Times, total morons and obviously could care less what their readers think.
I took the time to write an email to EVERY listed address of the Times Staff. Now certainly I didn't expect a response from every single person. But out of the over 200 emails I sent out I received ONE (yup, ONE) response. And that wasn't even from someone involved with the forum.
The bottom line is this; this is a free "service" being offered by the Times. Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if they eliminated it completely. I imagine that to them, it's not worth the headaches. My personal feeling is that they have missed the boat on this one. This forum could be a way to increase subscription buys, gain in additional advertising sales, essentially increase revenue in a number of ways. But rather than taking a hard look at the value of the forums, they simply would rather we all be quiet and go away.
The sad truth is, by making the changes they have, ultimately they are probably going to get their wish. The forums are dying and many of the posters who contributed with regularity have left. At this point, it only seems a matter of time before the forums go away completely. And that's too bad; at worst, it allowed people to express their opinions and get some idea of how others viewed them. That lends itself to a great learning situation (excluding those whose agenda was/is only to hear themselves rant). That learning scenario, due to the format changes, is slowly dying. And it certainly seems that the management at the CCT couldn't possibly care less.
The new style has finally grown on me. I am not as big of a poster as I was previously. I boycotted it for awhile; until the site would not allow me on without re-registering. I went through that whole process only for it to tell me at a later time that I needed to re-register two additional times. I have had alot of issues being able to sign in to the forums since the website changed. Sometimes my sign on information is recognized and sometimes it isn't.
I don't really care about the look of the site but CCT should work on the fuctionality issues!
