Why is that noise any different than the cars making noise on the streets? I thought we had a noise ordinance for after 10:00. There are times when I am not bothered by it. But tonight the atmosphere is just so and I need to turn my TV too loud to drown the noise from the racers.
shoot smokey i can hear it to makes me want to race right down there and put a halt to it,lol no pun intended. i didnt know that races went into almost november.
The races were here before most houses, the train was here before most houses, most airports were built where they are before houses. Live with it or move.
As a very long time resident I still love the sounds of the train and have to laugh when I hear the race track. Maybe it keeps me grounded somehow or just plain reminds me of the good ol' days
Sort of like some of you think of Stan's Brickhouse in W/C.
Well horses were here before houses. I wouldn't want them sheet-tin on my streets today. It's called progress. If we didn't like change nothing would ever get done. p.s. I think there were houses in Antioch long before the fairgrounds or the car races.
Cowboy Said: "Also the fairgrounds had to take some noise abatement action which included placing sound dampening material on the grandstands to reduce reflected sound."
Cowboy, since when did they start referring to people as sound dampening material? Smokey, maybe last Friday was an just an off-night attendance wise, or maybe they just need to start attracting folks with more sound dampening junk-in-the-trunk, if you know what I mean?
You may have a hard time enforcing a city ord, outside of the city limits. Not to mention that with most noise ordinances they do not kick in until 10 or 11 PM sometimes later on weekends, I don't know how Antioch's is written, but I seriously doubt that they could cite someone making noise outside the city limits even though the area is surrounded by the city.
several years ago the City and races came to an agreement that the last race could not start after 10pm. Also the fairgrounds had to take some noise abatement action which included placing sound dampening material on the grandstands to reduce reflected sound.
The fairgrounds did agree. I wonder if the larger track is making it noisier. We were there a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice a noise problem and I don't think it is worse here at home. We hear every single race and just enjoy people being able to do it and go there.
Oh ok, Cowboy. I'm just wondering, because when we were building Bases Loaded I asked the contractor, "With all the hardwood floors and tin ceiling, should we get more sound dampening material in here?" He said, "Don't worry, you'll have people for that." When there's an echo in there, I get a little nervous. We're always working on improving the acoustics. That's why we got the $1.50 Pint Special during NFL games, like during the Eagle/Redskins MNF game tonight!
Hey smokey, I don’t know what year you moved to Antioch but the races have been going on at that racetrack since....FOREVER! I don’t know where you purchased your house but I am assuming that you bought close enough to downtown to hear the noise as you called it. You should have checked out the area and asked your realtor about the possible noise from living so close to a racetrack. They should not ban the races they should ban people like you from moving to Antioch and then trying to change everything good and historical about Antioch. The races are not going away any time soon unless the county decides to sell that land like they talked about a few years ago. I seriously doubt that will happen, so get used to it.
Oh please, there is such a thing as change and sometimes for the better. What kind of world would this be if everything just stayed as it was when you were born? No, I did not buy a home close to downtown. Actually I am on the other side of the freeway. As i said in the first post the races make more noise on nights when the atmosphere is just right(or I should say, just wrong) There are many things that contribute to noise nuasince, the barking dog next door, the loud boom stereos, gardeners leaf blowers and such. That doesn't mean I have to enjoy them.
Ya let's all get together and and the races. That way we have a bunch of rednecks with nothing to do on a saturday night were they can sit at home and beat the wife and go out to the bars and get in fights. That add's up to more crime on the streets. If you don't like it put some ear plugs in and i will grab a beer. cccccc ya at the races
Saturday night racing has been going on forever,I was born here in 1963 and though I don't attend i have grown acustom to the sound of a race going on,I know there is alot of new citizens now,but maybe you should have came for a visit and checked out things first.
There was no racing on Friday night . The last night was Saturday 10/24. I will take a speeding race car in a controlled environment any time. It is much better than the racing and reckless driving that occurs on our city street everyday. Plus a well-tuned 600+hp engine sounds better than the cars with the speakers in their grills BOOMING.
