Reid and Pelosi in the Gutter
It took a little more than the first hundred hours for the Democrats’ Harry Pelosi and Nancy Reid to lead the American legislature to the lowest approval ratings in history.
They are right down there with Mike Nifong’s ethics and Ted Kennedy’s morality. They are so low they make Bush look good.

Just 14% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress.
This 14% Congressional confidence rating is the all-time low for this measure, which Gallup initiated in 1973. The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.
Congress is now nestled at the bottom of the list of Gallup's annual Confidence in Institutions rankings, along with HMOs. Just 15% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in HMOs. (By way of contrast, 69% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the military, which tops the list. More on this at galluppoll.com on Thursday).

Pure Lavender Mafiosa
Whenever Deconstructing the intrinsically aberrant, degrading and objectively disordered nature of the sick hatreds and vile perversions that make up the mainstream of the Radical Leftist / Gender Feminist / Homosex agenda, it is always important to remember the 'Politics of Adversarial Terminology' at play in their hatemongering pogrom of societal destruction.
Hence the use of sanitized and gaily misleading euphemisms that encourage the Orwellian 'Doublethink' necessary to making such sickness and hatred palatable to the 'Vanilla' (clueless voters / readers) - is an important tool for such Hatemongers to insure that the 'Vanilla' remain ignorant enough of the facts behind the scam that they will still cast their ballots in obedience to the dictates of said Old Media Homosex Propagandists.
Thus - while the pretense of a united front of solidarity is regularly spun to the Vanilla as the 'truth' - the fact is that there are huge differences between the various factions that make up the dirty rainbow of perversions and hatreds that is their banner. The two main forces in the 'Pander or Perish' movement have little in common, save for their rabid frothing hind foot thumping Misandry (Hatred of Men, Masculinity and Normal Heterosexuality), and although the watchdogs of the old media try and play it down - such differences are quite apparent from their own behaviors and postures.
Hence, while most attention is still focused on the Pathological Disease Spreading Antics of the Coprophile Cult of Feces Focused Homo-Anal Perversions (the Barney Frank / Drag Queen Wing), this is done in large measure to avoid deeper scrutiny of the Separatist / Neo-Exterminationist Cult of Dyke Misandry, and the ugly revelations that would result from such scrutiny. Even Radical Gender Feminist Icon Betty Goldstein (Freidan) warned in the early days of Feminism about the threat of takeover by what she called the "Lavender Menace," meaning Dyke Hatemongers and their agenda of Hatred Uber Alles.
In Weimar Kalifornia the Lavender Menace, despite their tiny numbers in the population, has morphed in to a Lavender Mafia with virtual control over all 'gender' issues in the Legislature (a body not fit to pass gas), under the leadership of such notorious Hatemongers as Zelda Kuehl, $5 Smidgen, Jackie Goldbarge and Sleazy Suzzi Kennedy - all Powerful Prima-Donnaz of the Democrap Hate Machine. While pretending to represent 'Women', and using the fabricated hoax of their victimization culture as a front, they are actually the greatest enemies of Normal Women around - and rationalize their Hate Pogroms with propaganda claims supported by [bleep] Law Professors that All Heterosexual Intercourse is Rape - because Normal Women Can Not consent to such due to their oppression by the "Patriarchy."
Hence - their Royal Choice of Lavender as the Color of Dyke Misandry is not a coincidence, but rather a reflection of their self appointed / anointed status as the Only Womyn whose views are allowed to be considered legitimate, because their Rabid Misandry makes them more enlightened than ordinary Women - who they Alone Must Represent, even if it is against their Will. As the following excerpt from the Frisco Crock about the Enda scam in Congress shows, eventually such Hatemongers and their Misandrist allies show their true colors.
BTW - Religious Organizations are Not Exempt from the bill - but like the Boy Scouts and others are Specifically Targeted for Destruction - and the claim is simply another Old Media Lie... So what else is new...

Carolyn Lochhead, Chronicle Washington Bureau November 8, 2007. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act... emotional debate about whether to include gender identity in the bill split gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people for weeks. Most gay rights organizations, with the exception of the Human Rights Campaign, opposed the legislation, and a handful of liberal Democrats voted against the bill with evident distress.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, wearing a lavender suit as a symbolic gesture of solidarity... said she was disappointed that it excluded transgender people... dropping transgender people from the anti-discrimination bill, known as ENDA, enraged gay leaders and tore apart the gay community.
For the first time, most gay rights groups were on the opposite side of Frank, their longtime champion, each angrily and publicly denouncing the other... to round up votes for an amendment by Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., the only openly lesbian House member, to include transgender people in the bill.
Baldwin, too, wore lavender and vowed that transgender ... I will do everything in my power to make this measure whole again." Frank, however, denounced what he called self-defeating ideological purists...
Religious organizations are exempted from the bill. But Republicans warned that the legislation would force Christian, Muslim and other religious businesses such as bookstores that are not affiliated with an official religious group to hire homosexuals.
To beat back GOP attacks, Democrats also included a reaffirmation that the Defense of Marriage Act banning federal recognition of same-sex marriage remains intact.

Taken for Granted (FRC)
Today's Washington Post has an interesting piece on how major issues like abortion and marriage are uniting African-Americans and allowing the Republican Party to make potential inroads into this community that generally tends to vote overwhelmingly for the Democrats. The story leads with my good friend Bishop Harry Jackson, Jr. and how his High Impact Leadership Coalition of black pastors rejects the traditional party line and looks at the moral issues of today before deciding what they communicate to their congregations.
Bishop Jackson, just like me and other people of faith of all colors, makes it clear we will not be beholden to any party. What is ironic is that while some leaders of the Democratic Party have started embracing the language of faith with the hopes of attracting religious voters, most still want to hold the party line of abortion on demand and remain estranged from traditional marriage.
While the Republicans experienced the powerful pull of social issues on African-Americans in 2004 because of the marriage issue, they are increasingly distancing themselves from these key issues that speak the true language of faith and bring Christian voters into the fold. If issues that are important to so many Christians, both black and white, are ignored by both parties then ultimately both parties may find they are ignored by many Christians.Additional Resources

DOMA, Sweet DOMA (FRC)
For months, the House and Senate have been out of touch with Americans, and the introduction of a new domestic partner policy proves it. On December 19, shortly before the chambers recessed, members of both the House and Senate sponsored bills that would essentially invalidate the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
Under the new legislation government employees and their same-sex partners would be eligible to receive federal health and insurance benefits. The Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act, introduced in the Senate as S. 2521 by Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) and in the House as H.R. 4838 by Reps. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Chris Shays (R-Conn.), Harry Waxman (D-Calif.), and Tom Davis (R-Va.), would force taxpayers to subsidize a sexual lifestyle that a majority of them find morally objectionable.
If congressional leaders believe that a new era of acceptance has dawned, they need only to look to their own home states, where efforts to enshrine traditional marriage into law are energizing voters as never before. In November, four states are gearing up to join the 27 that have already amended their constitutions to protect marriage as God intended it--as the union of one man and one woman. Two others expect a vote as early as next year.
The only ones in denial of America's legislative priorities happen to be the leaders setting them. Help us deliver the reality check that Congress so desperately needs. Click the link below and ask your representatives to vote "no" on H.R. 4838 and S. 2521.

MICHIGAN: ANOTHER ARGUMENT FOR A CLOSED PRIMARY (IVA)
Allowing an opposing party to help you select your candidates for public office is a form of political insanity, a bit like letting the San Diego Chargers help choose the New England Patriots' starting quarterback in this weekend's AFC championship game. Think the Chargers would vote for Tom Brady?
While the rank and file members of the Republican Party in Idaho continue to battle their own party's elite over closing the Republican primaries in Idaho, more evidence of the political folly of open primaries is emerging in Michigan. Michigan, like Idaho, has an open primary system, meaning Democrats can vote in the Republican primary and vice-versa.
In Michigan, a dispute between the state and national Democratic Party has kept every name but Hillary Clinton's off tomorrow's primary ballot.
This has led to a call from the left-leaning Democratic website DailyKos for Democrats to sabotage the Republican primary by crossing over to vote for Mitt Romney, in order to prolong his campaign so that GOP candidates will continue "trashing each other" in the quest for primary voters. The latest polls show Romney running in a statistical dead heat with John McCain, meaning that Democratic crossover votes could have a material effect on the outcome.
The author of the DailyKos piece tells readers that Republicans meddled in the Democratic primary in 1972, when, he says, a third of voters in the Democratic primary were Republican crossovers who voted for segregationist George Wallace just to embarrass the state's Democrats.
Republicans, according to DailyKos, did a similar thing in 1988, helping Jesse Jackson win the Democratic primary, and again in 1998 when they helped Jack Kevorkian's lawyer win his Democratic primary for governor.
And, he says, Democrats did the same thing in the 2000 primary, crossing over to give the GOP primary to John McCain just to spite Republican governor John Engler, who had "guaranteed" the state to Bush.
The DailyKos appeal, in bold-face in the original, declares, "Michigan Democrats should vote for Mitt Romney, because if Mitt wins, Democrats win."
While Democrats in Idaho continue to harshly criticize Republican efforts to close Republican primaries, they continue to hold a closed caucus - open only to Democrats, thank you very much - to select a Democratic presidential nominee.
In other words, they want to be able to mess with Republican primaries, but don't want Republicans to mess with their presidential caucus. Who can blame them? All of which simply proves that they are smarter on this issue than the leadership of the Republican Party in Idaho.

Many Unhappy Returns
FRC:The holidays have given everyone in Washington an opportunity to rest, and given the latest priorities of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the pro-family forces will need it.
As the House reconvenes today, the leadership is expected to start the New Year in much the same way as it ended the old--with renewed attacks on marriage, ethical science, and employers' rights. Despite the widespread success of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, which reinforce the lack of need for embryonic stem cell (ESC) research, Democrats plan to stage yet another vote on the bill that would force taxpayers to fund ESC.
As I mentioned last week, there is already a campaign underway to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) by granting the homosexual partners of federal employees the same rights and privileges as married spouses.
And last, but certainly not least, don't count out "hate crimes" or the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), both of which are at the top of the liberal "to do" list. Stay tuned to the Update, because we are certain to need all values voters on deck in the coming weeks!

Obama snub still rankles Newsom
C.W. Nevius SFGate, February 5, 2008
Seeing Mayor Gavin Newsom on the national stage with former president Bill Clinton on Monday night is a reminder of how political winds can change. On the eve of the biggest night of the presidential primaries, Newsom shared the spotlight during a town hall meeting staged and broadcast on cable TV and satellite radio by the Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign.
But just four years ago, current Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is said to have declined to have his picture taken in San Francisco with Newsom, who was then at the center of a national uproar over his decision to allow same-sex marriage in San Francisco.
"I gave a fundraiser, at his (Obama's) request at the Waterfront restaurant," said former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. "And he said to me, he would really appreciate it if he didn't get his photo taken with my mayor. He said he would really not like to have his picture taken with Gavin."
Today, of course, Obama's people are backpedaling away from that account like crazy.
His deputy campaign director, Steve Hildebrand, who lives with his partner as an openly gay man, calls it "a ridiculous story."
"Barack Obama gets his picture taken with gay people all the time," Hildebrand said. "Including me, his deputy campaign manager."
But insiders at City Hall, both current and former members of Newsom's staff, recall the incident well. And you can bet that Newsom hasn't forgotten it either.
"He was pissed," said one former staffer.
In fact, early last year, Newsom alluded to the incident in an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Speaking to Reuters on Jan. 26, 2007, Newsom was asked about three potential Democratic candidates: Obama, Hillary Clinton and Al Gore.
He was asked about the flak he took after announcing that San Francisco would allow same-sex marriages - flak that included claims he had helped Republicans by handing them a wedge issue heading into a presidential election year. In the interview, Newsom admitted he'd been hammered over the decision. "And I'm not just saying from Republicans," he added at the time.
"One of the three Democrats you mentioned as presidential candidates, as God is my witness, will not be photographed with me, will not be in the same room with me," Newsom told Reuters, "even though I've done fundraisers for that particular person - not once, but twice - because of this issue."
Now, could that be why Newsom declared his support for Hillary Clinton a good six months ago? San Francisco Supervisor Bevan Dufty, who was concerned enough about the 2004 story to look into it, insists the mayor's endorsement of the former first lady is more likely a case of repayment of political favors. And Newsom said after the town meeting that the snub "had nothing to do with my decision."
But Brown, as savvy as they get when it comes to reading political motivations, thinks the 2004 snub played a part.
"I think he has harbored this resentment for years," Brown said of Newsom, adding that Obama was reluctant to be seen appearing in San Francisco altogether, much less side by side with the gay-marriage mayor. "I would guess that is part of the rejection of the Obama campaign."
Though same-sex marriage is still a hot-button issue in 2008, it is no longer the shocker that had the country in an uproar four and five years ago. Until you go back and look at the news stories from those days, it is easy to forget how radical and unpopular Newsom's stand was.
And, no, it wasn't just the right-wingers who were upset. It was Democrats, too, particularly those running in the presidential primary. John Kerry, for example, was careful to stage his Bay Area appearances in Oakland, not San Francisco, after the controversy hit.
"I don't know anybody in the party who was happy with him, except me," Brown said. "He was all alone out there. He was the poster child for same-sex marriage worldwide."
That's why Brown says he doesn't blame Obama for his caution. Today, of course, the Illinois senator is happy to embrace gay causes. But in 2004, nationally, same-sex marriage was a radical notion.
"What they ought to say is, 'Damn right I did it, and I'd do it again,' " Brown said of the Obama camp. "He was in a race for the Senate, and I am guessing that downstate Illinois is a pretty red (meaning conservative) group of voters."

Today FRC Senior Fellow Bill Saunders and Vice President of Government Affairs Tom McClusky joined a large roomful of President Bush's stalled appointees to hear President Bush admonish the Democratic Senate on their failure to act on more than 180 of his nominees to various offices in the government and among our federal courts.
Within this number are 28 qualified judicial nominees, the majority of whom have not even been granted a hearing, including some who have been pending for over two years.
These presidential nominees are men and women from all walks of life who have put their lives on hold to serve this nation. Instead of recognizing their willingness to serve, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) have decided to put sand in the gears of government by not giving these men and women a simple up-or-down vote.
The non-judicial nominees include members of the Council of Economic Advisers, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Clearly the financial security or safety of Americans is taking a back seat to partisan politics.

Pelosi: House Rules Are Made to Be Broken (FRC)
The military follows congressional orders. Unfortunately for Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the House leadership does not.
Earlier this year, the Pentagon refused a request by Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) to bring her lesbian partner on a military flight to Europe. Under House rules, only a legal spouse (or, in some instances, an adult child) is eligible to travel with members of Congress when space permits. Baldwin, who claims to have "married" Lauren Azar in 1998, insists on registering her girlfriend as a "spouse" on government forms even though her own home state doesn't recognize same-sex marriage.
Secretary Gates insisted that he was following Congress's own protocol in blocking Azar from the transport, but that didn't prevent Pelosi from contacting his office and demanding that he make an exception. According to Pelosi, former Speaker Dennis Hastert authorized similar trips. His former aides, however, disagree, saying that in at least one instance Hastert wasn't informed that Azar was on a trip "until it had already begun." Gates too was unaware of any prior exceptions but said that he would honor Pelosi's request if she issued an official letter approving it.
Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell points to the irony of the Speaker wanting to waive her own rules to create gay-friendly exceptions. "This is not an issue of DOD regulations," Morrell says. "Secretary Gates honored a request from Speaker Pelosi& but that's really as far as it goes. This should not be viewed as a precedent."
Tell that to the Speaker of the House. Although the matter was temporarily resolved, the dispute is ongoing. There is more behind this than a seat on a military plane, this is about hijacking the meaning of marriage. It is clear that the Speaker's actions are in direct conflict with the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)--a law that Congress passed and former President Bill Clinton signed.

Catholic Officials to Pelosi: Stick to Politics! (FRC)
On Sunday's "Meet the Press" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked when she would counsel "life begins," to Barack Obama, who put that question "above [his] pay grade." Pelosi responded that, as an "ardent, practicing Catholic," the answer is unclear and that "the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition."
The Catholic Church begs to differ.
Archbishop Chaput of Denver said in response, "Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is a gifted public servant of strong convictions and many professional skills. Regrettably, knowledge of Catholic history and teaching does not seem to be one of them." He goes on to note, "Ardent, practicing Catholics will quickly learn from the historical record that from apostolic times, the Christian tradition overwhelmingly held that abortion was grievously evil."
Cardinal Rigali of the Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities responded, "The Church's moral teaching never justified or permitted abortion at any stage of development." Archbishop Wuerl of Washington, D.C. quoted the Catholic Catechism, which states, "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception ... Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion." I commend Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop Chaput, Archbishop Wuerl, and also Cardinal Egan of New York for their firm and clear reaffirmations of the dignity of human life.

The "Pelosi 100" vs. the 'Vanilla'
CHINO Nancy, aka 'kindly ole Granny Pelosi' - one of the richer womyn in democrap politics, is no stranger to the rarified air of VIP / BIg Money special treatment; particularly as the daughter of an established east coast political power clan and operator of its Sodom by the Sea Franchise.
Thus the ABC World News Footage broadcast (8/27) of one of their reporters being arrested while following the "Money Trail' at the democrap convention - including the Big Money Members of that otherwise seldom mentoined club known as "The Pelosi 100", must not have set very well with kindly old Granny 'P'.
But hey - the party of the 'Vanilla' (Clueless voters / taxpayers) portrays both Pelosi and Biden as 'catholic' - although both are vicious enemies of the Church and almost all it Teaches, so claiming to represent the interests of working folks against the 'fat cat repubs' is no bigger lie, and just as effective at getting said Vanills to vote for their pimp cult.
Provided of course that the Old Media Play Along - and turn a blind eye where required. Which apparently ABC did not, at least this once - but then it was World News, and not the Frisco Affiliate, which manges to avoid notice of the Annual SF DYKE MARCH / Anti Male Hate Riot - also staged each year in CHINO Carpet Bagger Pelosis adopted left coast Capitol.

"CHINO Nancy" Strikes Again...
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
(IVA) Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been taken to task for “mangling” Catholic doctrine on abortion during her appearance on last Sunday’s Meet the Press. She intimated that the Church’s teaching against abortion was “something like 50 years old” and has been “an issue of controversy” for ages.
However, as the Archbishop of Denver said yesterday, the position of the Church on abortion has never varied from its earliest days. A Jesuit work from 1977 says, “The Christian tradition from the earliest days reveals a firm antiabortion attitude ... abortion from the time of conception was considered wrong, and the time of animation was never looked on as a moral dividing line between permissible and impermissible abortion.”
The archbishop concludes, “In short, from the beginning, the believing Christian community held that abortion was always, gravely wrong.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church explicitly says, “Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.”
Ten Catholic congressmen yesterday issued a public letter chastising Pelosi for her distortion of church doctrine.

Pope Pelosi at the gate
Kathleen Parker, Washington Post Writers Group August 28, 2008
He was resurrected as Pelosi was trying to respond to the question that refuses to die: When does human life begin? This time, it was Tom Brokaw asking on Sunday's "Meet the Press." Citing Barack Obama's recent pass on a similar question - "At what point does a baby get human rights?" - Brokaw asked Pelosi what she would say to Obama were he to ask her advice.
Pelosi didn't finesse her answer, as Obama did when he said the question was above his pay grade, but she may wish she had. "I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time," Pelosi began. "And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctrines of the church have not been able to make that definition. ... St. Augustine said at three months. We don't know. The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on a woman's right to choose. ... I don't think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins."
Few paragraphs have contained more falsehoods. The reaction was swift from Denver's archbishop, the Rev. Charles J. Chaput, among others, who condemned Pelosi's comments during Mass that same evening. Blogging on Monday, Chaput quoted Jesuit John Connery, author of "Abortion: The Development of the Roman Catholic Perspective," who concluded that "the Christian tradition from the earliest days reveals a firm anti-abortion attitude."
It is true that laws and penalties concerning abortion have evolved. "Right to life" is a relatively new concept. It is also true that Augustine - and St. Thomas Aquinas eight centuries later - subscribed to a "delayed hominization" theory, meaning that abortion couldn't be homicide because the fetus doesn't receive a soul until a certain point in its development.
Augustine even thought that "hominization" occurred earlier for males than for females. Is it possible that the same authority whom Pelosi invokes to justify her belief in choice also ranked the female fetus below the male on God's "Ensoulments To Do" list? We may forgive Augustine, of course, because people didn't know much about nascent life in the early 400s. The ovum wasn't discovered until 1827. Fetal imaging, now routine for expectant parents, was unimaginable.
If Augustine had known then what we know now, would he stand by Pelosi as she asserts that when life begins should have no bearing on a woman's right to choose? The U.S. Supreme Court ruled as much in Roe vs. Wade, obviously, but Justice Harry A. Blackmun dodged the question of when life begins using the same rationale as Pelosi - that because scientists, theologians and others couldn't agree on when life begins, then a woman's privacy trumped the unborn's right to due process.
One may choose to believe that out of convenience or conscience, but the logic of the court was both self-contradictory and incorrect, according to Robert P. George, a professor of jurisprudence at Princeton and a member of the President's Council on Bioethics. By its ruling, says George, the court implicitly determined when life begins (against the fetus), while ignoring science that long before had determined the facts of human embryogenesis.
In his new book, "Embryo," George and co-author Christopher Tollefsen, associate professor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina, left religion behind and set out to establish the embryo's personhood by reviewing all the major scientific works on human embryogenesis and early intrauterine development.
Included was American medicine's most prominent human embryology text, "The Developing Human," whose authors are not imprecise on the matter of life: "Human development begins at fertilization when a male gamete or sperm (spermatozoon) unites with a female gamete or oocyte (ovum) to produce a single cell - a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marked the beginning of each of us as a unique individual."
In other words, human life begins at conception. That is not a religious posture, but a scientific fact that the lowest paid laborer on the planet can assert without qualm. What we do with that understanding is another matter, but no one in the 21st century should pretend not to know when human life begins.
On this matter at least, the church and science are in agreement.

California Congress (www.FRC.org)
In a surprise ambush yesterday, liberal House Democrats unseated longtime chairman Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) from his position on the Energy and Commerce Committee and replaced him with Rep. Harry Waxman (D-Calif.). Waxman's coup is alarming to many Democrats, who see the move as a rebuff to the seniority system and an indication that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is veering their party "off the cliff." While Dingell is far from pro-life, FRC recognized his willingness to work across the aisle.
Demoting Dingell because he isn't "liberal enough" only divides the Democrats further. Several of the party's rank and file spoke out on Thursday in protest. One member who refused to be identified even said that the leadership was "in orbit; they think it's a California takeover." With health care and sex education firmly in Waxman's control, trouble is already brewing for the pro-family community. You may remember that Waxman was the one who used your taxpayer dollars to launch unsubstantiated attacks on the validity of abstinence education and pregnancy care centers.
As upsetting as the appointment is, FRC was relieved to learn from our sources on the Hill that the leadership will not pursue the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) next year. Thanks to FRC Action's ads, more Americans are aware of FOCA's devastating impact on the life movement. Now that our friends are rallying against FOCA, Democrats have decided the issue carries too much political risk. They plan to postpone the legislation until they can chip away at smaller pockets of the values movement.
With Waxman's appointment and today's story that President-elect Obama is delaying the repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, it seems the leadership plans to attack life and family by quietly dismantling things that won't make front-page news like increasing taxpayer funding of abortions, ending conscience protections, and inhibiting free speech.
Until they've paved the way with these incremental changes, liberals are putting off big ticket items like same-sex "marriage," FOCA, and gays in the military. The outcry over FOCA should be a meaningful lesson for Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) that FRC will be a formidable foe in every battle over values -- large or small.

Democrat Baltimore mayor indicted
Ben Nuckols - Associated Press Writer - 1/10/2009
BALTIMORE - The Democrat mayor of Baltimore, Sheila Dixon, was indicted Friday on charges that she accepted illegal gifts, including travel, fur coats and gift cards intended for the poor that she allegedly used instead for a holiday shopping spree.
A grand jury indicted Dixon on 12 counts, including four counts of perjury and two counts of theft over $500. She was also charged with theft under $500, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and misconduct in office.
... the gift cards were to be distributed to needy families, but were allegedly used by Dixon to buy electronics - including an Xbox, a PlayStation 2 and a camcorder - clothes and other merchandise and also handed out to members of her staff.
The indictment against Dixon does not name Ronald H. Lipscomb, a prominent developer who briefly dated the mayor and who was indicted Wednesday on one charge of bribing a City Council member. But Weiner confirmed Lipscomb was "Developer A" mentioned in the indictment who showered the mayor with gifts and took several lavish trips with her in late 2003 and early 2004.
Dixon has never listed any gifts from Lipscomb on financial disclosure forms. At the time of Dixon and Lipscomb's affair, his company was involved in several projects that received city tax breaks.

Big city mayors pushing homosexual agenda
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 6/18/2009
A conservative activist says big city mayors are pandering to the homosexual agenda, but only because homosexual activists pushing "counterfeit marriage" are concentrated in those large cities.
On Monday at its annual meeting, the U.S. Conference of Mayors passed a resolution supporting what it calls "marriage equality for same-sex couples." The resolution also included support for federal bills such as the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Matthew Shepard Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, as well as repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.
Interestingly, 31 of the 41 states represented by the 173 mayors who attended the meeting have either constitutional or state laws protecting traditional marriage. Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, says the mayors are out of touch with the mainstream American public.
"People in most states now have ratified marriage between a man and a woman, and the big cities are pandering to the homosexual side. Fortunately, the big cities and the big city mayors do not represent the American people," he believes.
"The American people are solidly for marriage between one man and one woman. And even in blue states like Illinois, even civil unions didn't pass here in Barack Obama's own home state."
LaBarbera claims that homosexual activists are largely concentrated in big cities and do not accurately represent the rest of the country.

CHINO Nancy on the Skids... Its Payback for the Pimps time in DC. Ohso

Stop Nancy Pelosi's Taxpayer Funded Payoff Scheme (www.frc.org)
Exactly what kind of stimulus did Speaker Nancy Pelosi have in mind? That's a question more Americans should be asking now that details are trickling in about the controversial $825 billion "economic recovery" package. $200 million for lawn care in Washington, D.C., $360 million to potentially be used to put on transsexual beauty pageants and erotic art shows.
These are a few examples in the $825 BILLION (and counting!), over 1,588 page stimulus bill. Speaker Nancy Pelosi argues this bill would stimulate the economy, however only 7 percent of the legislation actually goes towards infrastructure - the rest of the bill reads like a taxpayer funded payoff to groups that have supported liberal Democrats' interests.
And what a pay off! ACORN, the long controversial group that purposefully tried to muck up last year's elections to benefit the Democrats is being rewarded by Nancy Pelosi with potentially $4.19 BILLION in taxpayer funds. And more than 10 percent of the proposal-$87 billion-would be directed to groups like Planned Parenthood! The country's recession is crippling families, and the Democrats' solution is spending billions of dollars on contraception?
On the latest "This Week" program on ABC, George Stephanopoulos pressed Speaker Pelosi for an explanation. She implied that making sure there are less children is a great way to stimulate the economy! Meanwhile she helped stop an amendment to the bill that would have protected parental rights!

When Will Nancy Pelosi's Lies Stop?
June 5, 2009www.frc.org
When Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was elevated to Speaker of the House and second in line to the Presidency, she vowed to run the most honest, most open, most ethical congress in history. Instead, what she did was create a smoke screen attempting to cover even more corruption.
She has used her office to try to stymie investigations into ethical violations surrounding her top lieutenants, Representatives John Murtha (D-Penn.) and Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.), both of whom have used their positions to seemingly profit handsomely.
Speaker Pelosi herself has purportedly steered favorable contracts that profit her husband's company and has caused controversy with her public statements that later turn out to be false. She has accused the CIA of lying to Congress while supplying no evidence of her accusations.
Her most recent statement proclaimed that embryonic stem cells have helped treat thousands of patients. As any respectable stem cell researcher can tell you, no one has ever been treated successfully with embryonic stem cells but by other, more ethical forms of stem cell research.
Please watch this video and then sign our petition asking the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct to name a special investigator to look into the numerous allegations surrounding Speaker Pelosi and her colleagues.

Harry Reid is sneaking the anti-faith Hate Crimes bill
through the Senate - and now it can come to a vote as early
as tomorrow night! See my urgent message below. (www.lc.org)
The long battle against 2009's version of the Hate Crimes
Law has come to a crucial hour! My sources inside the Senate
tell me that this morning Harry Reid officially attached
it as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act and
"filed cloture."
That's legislative jargon meaning there could be a vote on the
bill as early as tomorrow night. Reid used every ploy in the
book to keep any other Senator from adding amendments or
modifying the Hate Crimes content. Reid's "fix" is in!
This is an outrageous manipulation of Senate rules for just
one purpose - to keep the unneeded, indefensible Hate Crimes
Law from getting a full and fair hearing!
Now Senators are being forced to make a choice between
approving a vital defense spending bill and voting against
the dangerous Hate Crimes amendment.
Even worse, Reid is using the cover of Sonia Sotomayor's
Supreme Court confirmation hearings in hopes that grassroots
Americans like you will not take notice!
Citizens like you - who know just
how dangerous this so-called Hate Crimes legislation really
is - have forced the Senate Majority Leader to take this low
path to deliver his political prize to the homosexual community.
In essence, Majority Leader Reid is sneaking this bill through
as an amendment because he knows opposition is growing fast
and he fears the bill could not survive on its own. Just
yesterday, alert citizens like you delivered over 15,000
faxes to Senate leaders!
This battle has come to a pivotal junction!
We've already done so much to stop this dangerous bill, but
now I need your help once again in two vitally important ways...
I need you to fax your senators right now - even if you've
already done so one, two, or even three times before! Tell
them you oppose the Hate Crimes amendment that is being
cynically smuggled through the Senate this week.
Together, we can stop this end run, but only if enough
concerned Americans stand up and fight!
Go here to schedule your faxes:
http://www.libertyaction.org/r.asp?U=20213&CID=292&RID=17857958
As always, you can send your own faxes. We have provided
all the information you need at the above link. Either way --
PLEASE SEND YOUR FAXES!
Call Harry Reid and your Senators now
Also, please continue to call Majority Leader Reid and tell
him you oppose him sneaking the Hate Crimes bill through the
Senate as an amendment. Our sources have informed us that
Senate phones lines are jammed with calls…so keep it up!
LET'S SHUT DOWN HARRY REID'S PHONES ALL WEEK!
Outraged citizens like you have already forced him to take
drastic steps to sneak this bill through -- NOW LET'S REALLY
TURN UP THE HEAT!
Reid's Majority Leader office: 202-224-5556
Reid's D.C. Senate office: 202-224-3542
Also, call your two senators and tell them you STRONGLY OBJECT
to the fast-tracking of the anti-faith Hate Crimes bill:
Sen. Feinstein 202-224-3841
Sen. Boxer 202-224-3553
Talking Points:
1. I am very disappointed that the Senate is fast-tracking
the Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 (S. 909) by attaching
it as an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act.
2. This Hate Crimes legislation is so controversial that it
must be considered as a stand-alone bill, not rushed as
an amendment.
3. I oppose the Hate Crimes Prevention Act and urge you to
oppose it as well. It is an attack on faith and family
while granting special rights based on "sexual orientation"
and "gender identity," terms which are not even clearly
defined in the bill.
We've come to the climax of this long, hard struggle. Please
take time today to pray that God will cause the tide to turn
against the Hate Crimes Law, no matter what underhanded
tactics Harry Reid and his cronies employ.

The Naked Politics of Liberal Stimulus (www.frc.org)
Despite the questionable impact of the first stimulus package, there is actually discussion of a second stimulus package. So far, the states have spent roughly 10 percent of the $787 billion package, but it has yet to register on the "recovery" radar. In fact, the only thing that seems to have changed is the unemployment rate--and not in the direction the President had hoped.
Given where the money's been directed, maybe none of us should be surprised. Mark Kelly of the Heritage Foundation did some digging on where the House Speaker funneled her District's dollars, and the list of projects is enough to send taxpayers through the roof. Let me put it this way: Nancy Pelosi is trying to stimulate a lot more than San Francisco's economy. While the average American is worried about losing his shirt, Congress is funding actors who aren't wearing any!
According to Kelly, $50,000 was sent to an initiative called CounterPulse in San Francisco that just sponsored a "Perverts [Sleep Around]" event on July 25, urging people to "Join your fellow pervs for some explicit, twisted fun!"
Another $50,000 went directly to an entertainment group called Frameline that concentrates on promoting the "lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community" in the arts.
Over at "San Francisco Cinematheque," organizers raked in $25,000 to promote documentaries like "Thundercrack," of which a reviewer writes, "Witness if you dare, the world's only underground kinky art porno horror film, complete with four men, three women and a gorilla." A company called Jess Curtis/Gravity, Inc. will receive $25,000, presumably to help boost their Symmetry Project, which features nude couples in compromising positions.
Other programs are too crude and embarrassing to even mention.
But shouldn't that say something to the third most powerful leader in America? If these projects are too obscene to talk about, what business does the U.S. government have funding them?
This isn't just waste--it's reckless, indecent garbage sponsored by Congress and paid for by you.
If these are the priorities of America's new leadership, then we should definitely get a second opinion on their vision for an issue as significant as health care. For more on Pelosi's "waste" line, visit Mark's blog at markkelly.posterous.com

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Buy 'Em! frc.org
Proving that the President "can buy me love," the blog of the Los Angeles Times has uncovered a web ad that shows how desperate the Left is for support.
The Fund for the Public Interest is actually offering to pay "volunteers" to support the President's takeover. "Work to pass Obama's health care plan and get paid to do it! $10-15 hr!"
The ad promises anywhere from $400-$600 a week to people who agree to rally on the administration's behalf, presumably at townhall meetings. Maybe the slogan should be "Work for change--and make some too!" Not everyone has pure motives, but it's somewhat ironic that the Left blames conservatives for "manufacturing" anger when their groups are hiring it!
Of course, this strategy is bound to be more productive than the leadership's contribution, which has largely consisted of public name-calling. Just this week, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) joined the messaging train wreck and called angry voters "evil-mongers."...

Census plan would illegally redistribute House seats
Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 8/13/2009
An immigration reform activist says she's outraged that an advocacy group for illegal immigrants is pushing for those individuals to take part in the 2010 census.
The Chicago Tribune reports that the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) has been going door-to-door in 11 Midwestern states, passing out flyers and encouraging the Latino population to participate in the upcoming census.
Susan Tully, national field director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform, says it is unfortunate that a large number of the Latinos that MALDEF is targeting are illegal aliens.
"We get this unbalance by counting people who have no legal right to be here and somehow claiming that this is their civil right to be counted. In fact, if you go on MALDEF's website, that's exactly what they're calling it," she points out. "They're actually counting people who have no legal presence, no legal right to be here, and taking representation away from American citizens in areas by counting illegal aliens."
A recent Wall Street Journal editorial pointed out that some states will gain more House seats than they deserve following the next census because illegal immigrants will be counted. Tully agrees that it is unfair for states in much of the Midwest that do not have as high a percentage of illegal aliens.
"They can get seats taken away from states for representation in the Midwest. And these seats are given then to places where they have huge populations of illegal aliens like California, Texas, and New York," she concludes.
Tully argues that before people are counted for the census, they should be required to show proof they are citizens or legal residents of the United States.

Gather Ye ACORNS (frc.org)
Last night the U.S. Senate voted 83-7 to accept an amendment offered by Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) that prevents the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) from receiving federal funding within the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill now being considered on the Senate floor.
This reaction against ACORN, an organization with close ties to the Democratic Party, came about after videos surfaced of ACORN giving advice to independent undercover investigators posing as a prostitute and her "boss." This advice included the best ways to cover up their illegal activities, including trafficking in child prostitutes from El Salvador. De-funding ACORN in this one bill is a great start.
But ACORN remains eligible for billions in other appropriations as well as from President Obama's stimulus bill passed earlier this year.
Additionally this is not the first time an organization close to the President and his party has been shown to be complicit in the exploitation of young girls. Video tapes have surfaced of staff at the abortion industry giant Planned Parenthood's facilities teaching scared underage girls how to cover up cases of statutory rape.
If Congress really wants to clean up their act, they need to stop funding criminal organizations.

The elephant in Lincoln's once-great room
Sandy Rios - Guest Columnist - Onenewsnow 10/1/2009
Sandy Rios"President Obama! We are forever in your debt!" -- "Abortion is not healthcare!" -- "Distribute my work ethic!" -- "I only own a dollhouse and already I'm $36,000 in debt!" -- "Give me Liberty, not Debt!"
Those were just some of the expressions of exasperation seen on signs in August as hundreds of thousands of American citizens marched on Washington. Some leaders in the Republican Party took that massive outpouring as a hopeful sign they can regain power. So they are busy in many states "helping" that to happen.
And they are "helping" by anointing candidates of their choosing, whose voting records are appalling, but who wear the GOP's elephant moniker and are therefore granted absolution. The party gives them status and endorsements, seeming to care little about the people of the state but only of their desperate grab for a return to power.
It is scandalous and it must be exposed. For Republican powers in Washington and in state Capitols to usurp the primary process and the will of the people to choose candidate insiders who will push harmful policies to rebuild the power base is shameful.
Congressman Mark Kirk of Illinois is Exhibit A. He was only one of seven Republican congressmen to vote for the cap-and-trade bill — legislation that will be the death knell for the Illinois industrial base and lay a burden on the state's citizens they can hardly bear. Yet Mark Kirk is "the man," according to the Republican Senate Campaign Committee that allocates money and resources to prospective candidates. Several Illinois congressmen now salute and endorse Mark Kirk...citizens be blasted. He is a Republican, after all. He's their friend and they think he can win.
Congressman Mark Kirk is an abortion advocate...a champion of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider. Kirk is so radical he voted in favor of the most heinous method of the procedure — partial-birth abortion. Pro-life Republican congressmen are lining up to endorse Kirk...trashing their personal convictions for the sake of power because he is, after all, a Republican from inside the Beltway.
Congressman Kirk is an advocate of radical homosexual rights. Citizens may wonder why — and they should ask him. It is one thing to oppose discrimination, quite another to be an advocate. Hate crimes have been the precursor to hate-speech laws in Canada, Britain and elsewhere.
The end game? Homosexuals get superior rights in criminal prosecution while citizens objecting to homosexuality on moral grounds, pastors included, are punished. Hate-crimes laws are unnecessary under the equal protection clause and dangerous to free speech. But Mark Kirk is an insider Republican, so party leaders turn their backs on people of faith and traditional values while they empower him to continue advocating these misguided policies to gain power for themselves and the party.
The irony of the Republican Party trying to fill Barack Obama's old Senate seat with a pro-cap and trade, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, anti-Second Amendment rights, anti-military surge in Iraq Republican is not lost on us.
The massive protest in Washington was not a cheering session for returning Republicans to power, regardless of their positions on important issues. Marchers want their country back...period. Bad policies that translate to harm for our children and country aren't somehow less painful because they come from Republicans. People want good governance and wise leaders who can recapture the motivation to serve for the good of all, not wield power for their own advancement.
Good news for the people of Illinois: There's an excellent candidate on the rise. Patrick Hughes is a young business and family man with a strong sense of ethics and morality, committed to smaller government, lower taxes and the Second Amendment; an enemy of cap and trade and of abortion — and the people of Illinois, in spite of Washington and Springfield, are getting behind him. Virtually every conservative leader in the state including Phyllis Schlafly has endorsed him. According to a recent poll, 69 percent of Republican primary voters are very conservative. Patrick Hughes is raising money rapidly. He can win. And Mark Kirk could easily lose.
To his credit, RNC chairman Michael Steele has seen the handwriting on the wall and removed his endorsement of Mark Kirk. It was a very wise move. Let the people of Illinois decide who we want to represent us. We are deeply unimpressed with the current elephant in Lincoln's once great room.

GOP House leaders line up behind NY liberal
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 10/21/2009
The Family Research Council is blasting House Republican leaders who have endorsed a GOP congressional candidate in New York who supports abortion, same-sex "marriage," and President Obama's economic "stimulus" program.
The November 3 special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District features Republican abortion and same-sex marriage advocate Dede Scozzafava, Democrat Bill Owens, and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.
Hoffman has won endorsements from former Republican presidential candidates Gary Bauer and Fred Thompson, as well as from conservative groups like the Club for Growth, Concerned Women for America, and the Family Research Council.
Meanwhile, The Hill reports that 17 House Republicans have written checks to Dede Scozzafava's campaign. They include House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Virginia), National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (Texas), and Representative Kevin McCarthy (California), who is in charge of recruiting GOP candidates to run next year.
Connie Mackey, president of the Family Research Council Action Political Action Committee, believes those 17 House Republicans are abandoning conservative values.
Connie Mackey (FRC Action PAC)"The very idea that someone of that liberal stripe would have the backing of the leadership frankly I think fires a shot across the bow for the future," she states, "and we felt it was very important to send a message right back."
Mackey takes particular offense to comments in The Hill attributed to an "unnamed GOP congressman" who suggested that Republicans who don't back Scozzafava, including House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, are "anti-women." She is calling on that unnamed congressman to identify himself and apologize to his colleagues for "maligning" them.
"This is ridiculous -- putting a liberal up like that and expecting everybody [in the GOP] to fall in line. It's just not going to happen," says the activist. "And if we can't elect Doug Hoffman, frankly we do hope that we at least bring down the Republican candidate."
Mackey has stated that if the FRC Action PAC's endorsement of Hoffman signals "civil war" within the Republican Party, "then so be it."

Pelosi's Crocodile Tears
Date: 9/18/2009 by Jeremy Wiggins (AFA)
Nancy Pelosi has yet again managed to ruin an opportunity to provide some healing during this difficult times, and turned it into prejudiced rhetoric once again. Instead of saying something like, "We can all learn a lesson about democracy in what I think everyone will agree is a crucial topic to America," Pelosi needs to get a GPS, because she is constantly on the moral low road.
In a speech she gave on September 17, the Speaker of the House used her open mic time to compare today's town hall protests and tea parties to, and I really don't see the comparison, the violence in the late 70's against homosexuals in San Francisco. She said, "this kind of rhetoric was very frightening, and it gave--it created a climate in which we--violence took place." And then she said we should all, "curb our enthusiasm."
What I want to know is this: Where, and I mean anywhere, in this country has there been the same type of violence as there was during the time period she is comparing it to? Where are the threats against democratic store keepers and people throwing bricks through windows protesting health care reform? Now I'm not saying that there aren't crazy people out there, they live on both the right and left sides of the fence. But to compare it to violence against homosexuals??? Why do we give this lady airtime? She was practically in tears and shaking, working herself up during this moment. A moment that has actually harmed America. That's right, it harmed the country.
The more we keep with this whole criticism equals racism gig, the more damage it is doing to the overall health of the nation. What's next?
Are we going to compare town hall protests to Tianamen Square? We live in a country where it is normal for protests to occur, and a majority of the time it occurs with no violence at all. I think Speaker Pelosi must have us confused with some other country.

On Military Policy, Reid Enlists Support (FRC.org)
The President is busy waging two wars, one in the Middle East and the other for health care reform. But that hasn't stopped Sen. Reid from calling on him to launch another offensive--this time against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." In letters to both Secretary Robert Gates and President Obama, the Senate Majority Leader pleads for their help in overturning the ban on homosexuals in the military. "As Congress considers future legislative action," he writes, "we believe it would be helpful to hear your views on the policy. Your leadership in this matter is... needed at this time."
Few, if any, of those leading this charge on the military have actually served--and their records raise serious questions about their understanding of and commitment to national security.
To date, every report conducted to date shows that removing the ban on homosexual behavior in the military would hurt retention and recruitment. Just do the math. The homosexual community comprises about 3% of the overall population. How many of those really want to join the military and be trained as warriors?
A recent survey showed that 14% of the present force would consider leaving the military if the ban were lifted.
So in the end this isn't so much about building up the military as it is conquering it--and everything that lay beyond.

Democrats Mask-a-Raid on Troop Bill (frc.org)
The American military is trying to win two conflicts abroad, so the last thing it needs is to be deployed in a culture war to legitimize homosexuality. Unfortunately, that didn't stop House leaders from piggybacking on a military funding bill to pass their pet project: "hate crimes." Yesterday, the House voted 281 to 146 in favor of extending special federal protection to homosexuals as part of the $680 billion Defense Authorization bill, a maneuver that Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) called a "disgrace."
The Democratic majority "should be ashamed at the way it has used the needs of our men and women in uniform as a platform for a partisan agenda," he said. Republicans tried to stop Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from hijacking the bill on Wednesday but failed by 56 votes from stripping hate crimes from H.R. 2647.
Under the charge of House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), 131 Republicans and 15 Democrats opposed the bill, but in the end it wasn't enough to stop Nancy Pelosi. After the vote, Rep. Boehner was frank in his disappointment--not only because hate crimes passed, but because liberals used an otherwise popular military bill to infringe on the very freedom our soldiers are fighting for."
This is radical social policy that ... is being put on the defense authorization bill, on the backs of our soldiers, because they probably can't pass it on its own," he told reporters. The first prize on a very long wish list for homosexuals, "hate crimes" now heads to the Senate for approval. Contact your Senators today and ask them to stop the real crime: leaders who abuse their power to advance irrelevant special interests.

Obama lauds Pelosi but California voters split
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer October 17, 2009
President Obama... stood beside House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in her home district and called her his key warrior on Capitol Hill...
- Californians' views of Congress have been in a precipitous downward spiral - lately on par with the lowest ratings of the past two decades, the poll showed. Just 23 percent of the state's voters approve of the job Congress is doing, with two-thirds of them disapproving of their 53-member state delegation.
The job performance of Pelosi, serving her 11th term representing the 8th Congressional District in San Francisco, is slightly higher - with 34 percent of voters approving of her work and 44 percent disapproving...

Support Our Troops Earmarks (frc.org)
Our troops will be interested to know that the Senate is focused on bringing home a victory in one campaign: their own.
When the chamber marked-up the Defense appropriations bill, some Senators started siphoning away billions of dollars in military equipment for their own pet projects.
At last count, there were over 778 earmarks attached to the bill, most of which are completely unnecessary or irrelevant--or both! The Washington Times exposed a few of these "needs" last week. "Among the... pork packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans and $20 million to launch an educational institute named after the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat."
Adding insult to what could be real injury, liberals are trying to attach legislation to the Defense bill that would give the District of Columbia full voting rights.
This backdoor approach seems to be strategy du jour for the leadership, who used this same maneuver to pass "hate crimes" legislation in the House earlier in the month. Liberals know that D.C. voting rights (much like "hate crimes") is contentious and unpopular--and very unlikely to pass as a stand-alone bill. But rather than work out the issue democratically, Senate leaders are using another Defense bill as a vehicle for their radical agenda.
While our soldiers wait for new supplies, fuel, and training, leaders are either delaying the bill with constitutional questions or trying to funnel money away from soldiers to finance their own political interests.
Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) from my home state defended her pork--an extensive World War II museum in New Orleans--saying it would be a "constant reminder to future generations about the tremendous sacrifice of millions of Americans."
That may be true, but instead of building bigger memorials, we should concentrate on keeping our soldiers from becoming part of one.

A grim political future for Harry Reid?
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 10/22/2009
Despite his large campaign war chest and his strong organizational base of organized labor, the Latino vote, and the Democratic Party, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) remains extremely unpopular in his state a year before he faces reelection.
A new poll conducted by Research 2000 finds that only 35 percent of Nevadans have a favorable opinion of Harry Reid, and 52 percent of likely Nevada voters say he is a "weak" leader. It also shows that Reid is trailing both of his potential Republican challengers: Sue Lowden and Danny Tarkanian. The survey was sponsored by a liberal group called The Progressive Change Committee Campaign, which has been running ads in the state supporting Reid and a government health insurance plan.
Eric Herzik (Univ. of Nevada-Reno)Dr. Eric Herzik, chair of the political science department at the University of Nevada-Reno, explains that Harry Reid has never been very popular.
"He's not the beloved politician -- he's a power politician, and in a sense doesn't apologize for that or run away from that title. His main thrust in most campaigns is 'I can deliver for Nevada,' and then [he] lays out what he has done," describes Herzik. "People oftentimes don't like that style; but you know, he wins more elections than he loses."
A top Reid adviser told Politico earlier this week that the Senate majority leader will "vaporize" his 2010 Republican opponent with attack ads. Herzik says such a strategy of launching personal attacks against an opponent is quintessential Harry Reid.
"What he does well is he's very well-organized. He will have lots of money, he will use the media effectively, and he will use a mix of very positive ads," Herzik illustrates. "He's running ads right now that tout what he has done -- and he is not shy about going after an opponent."
Herzik notes that Reid has already begun running campaign ads in Nevada, which is a sign that he knows his seat is vulnerable and he will have to work hard to keep it.

Only 34% of Californians approve of Pelosi
10/20/2009 by Elijah Friedeman, the Millennial Perspective
There's hope that Pelosi could be defeated in the 2010 elections. Now that's hope I can believe in. A new poll by the Field Research Corporation shows that only 34% of Californians approve of Nancy Pelosi. Contrast that to 44% disapproving, and the stage is set for an interesting reelection fight for Pelosi in 2010.
Pelosi Started the year with high marks from California voters. According to anther Field poll, Pelosi enjoyed a 48% approval rating in her home state with only 35% disapproving. A mere seven months and Pelosi has dropped 14 points in the poll. A lot of that probably has to do with Obama's faltering approval rating, although I can't help but think many Californians are just fed up with Pelosi herself.
Now as is expected the respondents were split down ideological lines over their approval of Pelosi, but the split is not as great as you would expect. 51% of Democrats gave Pelosi good marks compared to 7% of Republicans. 23% of Democrats voiced their disapproval along with 79% of Republicans.
A lot of Pelosi's election fight will depend on who her opponent is. If the Republicans can field a strong candidate, then an upset might be possible. But if there's no tough opposition, Pelosi should sail to an easy victory. Another variable to all this is the fact that this poll was conducted across the whole of California, not just Pelosi's ultra-liberal district. The 2010 elections are over a year away, but polls like these act as warning signs for incumbents everywhere to either start following the wishes of their constituents or face the consequences.

Leftist GOP candidate, Scozzafava, quits NY race
Valerie Bauman - Associated Press Writer - 11/1/2009
ALBANY, N.Y. - Fighting plunging support, Republican Dierdre Scozzafava abruptly suspended her campaign Saturday in a special election for a U.S. House seat that has exposed a rift among national factions...
The announcement comes after a Siena College poll found she was in third place with 20 percent of the vote in the heavily Republican upstate New York district that has been safe ground for the party for more than 100 years. Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman and Democratic nominee Bill Owens were too close to call with 35 percent and 36 percent, respectively.
The race has pitted conservative and liberal wings of the Republican Party in a battle of ideology both nationally and statewide. Hoffman and his backers say Scozzafava is too liberal to represent the GOP, specifically noting her support of abortion rights and same-sex marriage.
In the short run, the development consolidates Republican voters behind the conservative candidate and improves the party's chances of retaining the seat in the 23rd Congressional District, which encompasses all or parts of 11 counties in rural northern and central New York.
Longer term, Democrats will cast this as a troubling sign for the GOP because it exemplifies that divide in the party between moderates and conservatives, with those further to the right, including the "Tea Party" movement, now getting the upper hand.
Scozzafava came into the race with what should have been a big advantage. She was popular in her Assembly district. The 23rd has been rock-solid Republican for decades, one of only three held by the GOP in New York's 29-seat Congressional delegation.
But she got caught in the push and pull of a larger challenge as the GOP tries to define itself.
She failed to catch voters like James Keech, a 71-year-old registered Republican from Oswego. He said Scozzafava is too far to the left...
Scozzafava also got a gentle nudge to step aside last week from congressional Republicans who had supported her candidacy. Texas Rep. Pete Sessions, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, tacitly acknowledged Thursday that Hoffman might be the stronger candidate for the party, saying the Conservative Party candidate would be "welcome in our conference."..
Some have called the race a test of the GOP's future: whether traditional conservative ideology would lead the way forward or if a more leftist approach would draw more people back to the party.
Hoffman already is thinking about how to bring the party back together, and said this race could be the start of "the resurgence of the Republican Party."

This RINO Just Won't Join The Herd
Newt Gingerich became a nothing overnight because Palin supported the 3rd party candidate (Hoffman) and Newt endorsed Scozzafava. Hoffman wanted to run as a Republican, but was 'too conservative' for the RINOs running the GOP. So the NRC dumped a lot of money on Scozzafava, instead of investing with Harmer in California. Then Scozzafava suspended her campaign and endorsed the Democrat. Hoffman is expected to win in a rout. Then the GOP 'wanna-be's endorsed Hoffman after Palin had led the way. That is all you need to know in defining the leadership in the GOP today.

Doctors away... (frc.org)
While the House health care bill contains some protection for the unborn (at least for now), the rest of H.R. 3962 has plenty of problems that make the legislation dangerous for the American people. Section 571 would not only rewrite the current tax law but also redefine the family by giving "domestic partners" a tax break that treats homosexuals as the equivalent of married spouses.
The text in the health care bill is almost identical to the text of a bill that Human Rights Campaign has been pushing, H.R. 2625. This has been a top priority for homosexual lobbying groups and signifies a major shift in U.S. federal policy, yet it was slipped into the bill without any debate or committee action--by the Sponsor of H.R. 2625, Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.).

No Insurance? Go to Jail, Do Not Pass Go (frc.org)
Today's fact of the day on the recently passed health care bill, H.R. 3962 is don't have insurance? Pay a fine or go directly to jail.
Under the House legislation "Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bill's new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years."
This is according to the non-partisan Congressional Joint Tax Committee, which also defines the penalties as a "tax." This applies to all American citizens, thus further breaking the President's promise of "[u]nder my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase." Additionally businesses could be fined up to 8 percent of their payroll if they fail to comply with the government mandate.
There are also further penalties, or taxes, for underpayment or for "taking a frivolous position" on the government mandate.

Pelosi: Imprisonment If You Don't Buy Health Insurance Is 'Very Fair'
11/13/2009 Elijah Friedeman, the Millennial Perspective
Reporter Shomari Stone from the ABC affiliate in Seattle is apparently willing to do what most of the mainstream media is unwilling to do, ask tough questions. Stone didn't pull any punches when he asked this of Pelosi.
"Do you think it's fair to send people to jail for not buying health insurance?"
After Pelosi evaded the question and gave one of her prepackaged stump speeches for healthcare, Stone came back again and reiterated his question. Pelosi responded.
"I think the legislation is very fair in this respect."
Wait, what? Sure we all knew this is what Pelosi thinks, but still to hear it come from her directly is pretty sobering.
