SAD PLIGHT OF ANDREW WALTER

Raider Nation,

Many of you will disagree with me but that is why we have this forum. I was just looking at our roster  picking out all the QBs. We have SIX of them on the roster. Because of the poor play of our backups i.e. Walter & Tuiasosopo in recent years, we brought in Garcia, Gradkowski & Frye. I did not include Southwick because we all know  that he is just an extra arm to throw to receivers in the training camps.

Not sure about you guys but I find it sad that Walter couldn't live up to his potential. My research tells me that Walter can outthrow all the aforementioned QBs. My research also tells me that Walter and Derek Anderson were drafted in the same draft with Walter going in the 3rd and Anderson in the 6th. The fact that Anderson has outperformed Walter bothers me. Of course, Walter played for some of the worst Raiders teams in Raider history.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I wish Walter's performance could've turned out differently for the better. He had a chance to redeem himself last year against Carolina Panthers but did not help himself just like when Tui was not able to help us in relief a couple of years back. Sometimes I wonder if maybe our past offensive systems were to blame for putting too much on the QB's plate i.e. the support system wasn't there for the backup QB to stage a comeback victory putting most of the pressure on the QB himself. With the horrible play of our OL during Walters first several years, even Brett Favre would've been a mere mortal.

For Walter's own sake, I hope his career can be resuscitated. But I think his days as a Raider are numbered. I disagree with his decision to stay away from the QB clinic run by Tollner/Hackett. Not a good career decision! So what if he is the 3rd team  QB behind JaMarcus and Garcia. He should've looked at his demotion as deserving after his poor play last year and come back with renewed vigor to compete for the backup spot with Garcia. Watch the Patriots somehow acquiring Walter and turn him into a Matt Cassell ! LOL.

With the exception to JRUSS, Tui and Walter never got someone to develope there game. TUI was supposed to take over for gannon. I remember the drive against KC when brown was stopped on the goal line. Then he got hurt and fell into the dog house.coaches and schemes changed. Walter got his chance when Brooks was here. Unfortunately, it was with a bad line and a bad team. I'd like to see walter get a chance in a system that plays to his strengths.

As much as I've chewed on MadM and HOF for being negative (Mad called me a putz and other unmentionables.  HOF didn't say anthing) I am in full agreement with what you both have to say.  I was a proponent of Walter all along at least till the signing of JR.  Now it seems a moot point as he's on his way out and nothing can stop it.  It is too bad because like others have said, in the right system Walter could have or can be a star.

what the hell would you expect from a guy who has played for 4-5 dif. coaches for the same amount of years he has been in the league............which obviously equates to so many dif. systems, Anderson has had the same caoch/same system the whole way, besides this upcomming season.

On top of system changes and genuinely chaotic environment, which would kill any young QB's hopes for success,  I can't think of a single QB, no matter how good they were, who ever was the same again after taking a beating like Walter took under Shell.   I'm not sure I've ever seen such a beating for that matter, so  I'm only basing my statement on your standard run of the mill 'beating'.

Something about having really fast, strong and angry 300LB guys, getting a running start and pummeling you from different directions, while you are not looking, and body slamming you to the ground, as hard as they can, while their other 300LB buddies proceed to dogpile on top of you... six or so times every Sunday...  it has a way of denting one's confidence.

I'd say he's been 'mishandled' just a 'tad'.

He can go to the Titans to back up Collins and be their QB of the future.

the stupid thing is davis hangs on to players until their skills diminish because he doesn't want to face them. . This guy was lost a long time ago. he owns some pac 10 records....he can play, if he can only get the right surrounding! I hate him here. He sucks here in this system. Give him a pocket and time to throw the ball! Even Carolina would be a good fit to take over for delhomme

Mr. Walter ends up leading another team to the playoffs, i.e., Moss, Collins, Woodson

he has value

we need to trade him outside the division to at least get a 4th or 5th round pick for him.

he is a free agent after the season, (unless Mr. Russell gets injured and Walter out duels Mr. Garcia for the initial backup spot and leads the Raiders to the playoffs) he will not be a franchise player, so we will get nothing for him. Teams are interested in Andrew and I am sure he is interested in playing for another team, I pray not Denver, that would just suck.

Garcia is here for his final year. Russell will do well. After this season, we will not have a capable back up. Garcia if he plays next year will want to play rather than ride the bench. He could've done that with a team that's SB ready if he was in it for the ring.

this is crazy al's team. you know the guy that pays a billion dollars for losers, figures out they suck, then dumps them

he gets practically nothing in return

what'd we get for Moss, a 7th round pick? PLEASE! what would we get for Walter a high school freshman? for backup kiss al's [bleep] duty?
