The teppanyaki-style (i.e. like Benihana's) restaurant, Shirasoni, is finally open! Hub and I went there for lunch today after seeing the "NOW OPEN" sign out front and it was yummy! They have a similar menu to Benihana but lower prices. I had the hibachi scallops, hub had the steak and salmon - both very good. I'll admit I wasn't real crazy about their fried rice, but the owner admitted they are working out the kinks in the place before the grand opening in 2 weeks, so we'll definitely be back and see if that changes. I'm not real sure if this place is in Antioch or Brentwood (Brentioch?) because it's right in that weird zone (behind the Les Schwab tire place on Lone Tree Way near the Golden Hills church area) so I'll post this on the Antioch forum also just in case. It's definitely worth a shot if you like Benihana-style restaurants but don't want to drive over the hill! Yum!!

On the south side of LTW, Brentwood begins at Heidorn Ranch Road, so Trader Joe's and Peet's are in Brentwood.
On the north side, Brentwood begins at Empire, so the Walgreen's is in Brentwood, and Panera Bread is is Antioch

Thanks for the heads-up about Shirasoni, TaxiMom . . . we went there for lunch on Saturday, and had a great time. We both ordered the steak and salmon teppanyaki, and refried rice. It's funny . . . the bowls of rice are the usual smallish size, but I kept eating and eating, and hardly made a dent in mine . . . never-ending, magic rice bowls, LOL! I finally decided to stop, or I'd be too full to eat the entree.
The service was very friendly, albeit a bit slow. At one point, my husband held up our nearly empty bottle of wine and bemoaned that we wouldn't have any more to drink once the food was prepared (our chef was not yet at the grill). Within maybe three minutes, our host was at my husband's elbow with a fresh bottle of wine, *on the house*! What a nice gesture. Even were it not for that, we'll be back. It's very much like Benihana . . . the food is good, the atmosphere is fun, and it's right here in our own back yard so we love the convenience as well.

I saw these posts the other day and was glad to see that they had finally opened. We just checked out Shirasoni today for lunch and the food was pretty good. I agree though, the fried rice could use some work. I had the steak and my husband had the tempura combination entre. The steak was excellent.
Unfortunately, we did have a bit of an accident while we were there though. Our chef made the 'Onion Volcano' like I've seen before at Benihana, however once it started steaming, he lit it on fire (which I haven't seen done before). I'm still not sure what went wrong, but it kind of exploded and my husband got popped with quite a bit of the vinegar in his face, neck and chest. It was scary; he jumped back and tried to wipe it off of his face and eye. It hurt, but after a little bit he was ok. I can only see that it left one small mark on his neck. His shirt is probably ruined though. Maybe they shouldn't light it on fire anymore....the steam is good enough. I would hate to think if a child had been sitting there rather than an adult.
They gave us a discount for the incident, but only after the family sitting with us told them they should. $6 off the bill (lol, we didn't get it on the house). We'll give them another shot in the future, but we'll probably request that they skip the volcano near us ;)

Wow, you're a good sport! I'm glad your hubby wasn't hurt too bad. They may be playing with fire lighting it like that. I don't think I'd order that volcano that after hearing about your mishap. And I always thought the worst that could happen at one of those Benihana type places was you could catch an errant cleaver between the eyes!

If this place is like Benihana's, you don't necessarily order the onion volcano. They just go ahead and do it for the "wow" factor and hopefully to encourage a bigger tip. Benihana just uses water to make the volcano blow steam through the top. Maybe this place uses sake or some other kind of alcohol that is flamable. Sounds kind of reckless to me if they're trying to out-do Benihana. This could start a "natural disaster effects" war between the two places that could get out of hand. Benihana chefs do other stunts like flicking shrimp tails up into their hats with the spatula and sometimes toward the customers. I think some guy sued them a few years ago because he dislocated his shoulder trying to dodge a shrimp tail headed toward his face. What ever happened to a quiet meal where the food stays still on your plate instead of ending up in your ear.
This could be standard garb for going to one of these places in the near future.

Yep, the onion volcano is included with whatever meal you order; it's part of the show. I was surprised the chef lit it after getting it to steam. It was a cool effect, but not enough to risk injury. When we were there, there was a child sitting at our table with her parents, and the onion was being choo-chooed across the grill directly at her. I don't remember whether it was aflame at the time, or only steaming. Hmm, just steaming, I think, to resemble a train chugging along.

It's a new place and some of the staff my be learning on the fly, let's give them a chance to work out some of the kinks! Just be a little more diligent at the beginning. Sit back a little further from the action, take notice where the fire extinguishers are, and if you are seated by an exit and are physically unable to push open the panic bar door hardware, ask the hostess to relocate you. You can flip your stool over and use it as an umbrella if the fire sprinklers go off. Most of all, if there's a volcanic eruption, DON'T PANIC!

I think this place needs a theme song.

Please tell me they don't put 151 in their Lava Flow drinks, brandy in their Molten Lava Cake, and light those on fire too! Then again, I always did like those dinner shows where they swallow fire, juggle torches, shoot flaming arrows, and spin giant flaming Q-Tips. (I'm glad it rained so the grass on that hill behind your house isn't so dry, Stoney).

That must've been pretty scary!! I'd have expected a free SOMETHING out of that one - sheesh! Glad your hub wasn't hurt. It's funny - everyone I've talked to isn't crazy about the "re-fried rice" as we call it - the next time we go we'll have to let them know it's not a fave. Heck - it's still closer than Beni's and the food is pretty darn good otherwise (flaming onion aside) so hopefully it gets better with experience! Until then, it's steamed rice for me (which i really prefer anyways).
